I have chameleons so there-for I buy Dubias to feed my chameleons. I love the Dubia roaches. They're the cleanest species of roach there is & they cannot climb smooth surfaces like other roaches.

Also, Dubia roaches CANNOT fly despite having wings. Only the males have wings, Looks like they are dumping all males into the box.

Aww, dubias are cute and hissers even more so. Hissing cockroaches are one of the best pets for a kid to take care of themselves, completely unable to hurt anyone but tough as nails.

The smell is probably those dots of roach poop. It would be more of an exposure therapy if Coyote tried the German and American roaches which is what people commonly come across.

Yep. Can confirm, keep colonies of both of the same species (G. portentosa and B. dubia) and the animals themselves are pretty much odorless. Their food (fruit-based) can go rotten before they eat it all, and enough of anything poop's is gonna smell bad. But you have to pretty much stick your face into the enclosure after leaving it without cleaning for a while to smell it.

Can definitely second the exposure therapy thing- My mom is SUPER afraid of snakes, but somehow I convinced her to go to a reptile expo with me for my birthday. They had a LOT of ball pythons for sale there, so she got to see both babies and full-grown ones from all sorts of morphs, and she got to watch them up close, ask several breeders questions and actually learn more about them. She still doesn’t like snakes, but she’s pretty much okay with ball pythons now!

I think more educational facts about these roaches would have been useful in this video to emphasize that these insects are harmless and not something to be afraid of. That's what really helped me get over a fear of handling them. I find them quite charming now and cute :)

Funny thing i get recommended this today, because only yesterday i wore an apron that has been hanging for some time in the kitchen to start cooking breakfast, and when i put that thing on and tilted my head to the side, i felt something crawling between my cheek and neck, and after swatting it so fast by reflex, a huge black American cockroach fell to the ground and scurried away. I felt so disgusted, and the worst part is not only that i have a phobia from those foul creatures, but the texture of it between my neck was so very course from either sides and felt it's legs hooking into my skin. Ugh - i still get the shivers till now.
