This is the first few laps from the 2015 PCA race at road america. The camera car is a 2007 997 RSR with 2012 updates driven by Cory Friedman. The silver car is a Fabcar tube frame chassis 993 body turbo.

FYI, I'm the guy driving the Fabcar, It was my very first race ever and Cory was scaring the crap out of me Ha! I did get to know the car better and managed to set the PCA GTP1 track record at Road America the next year. To all the critics out there, It was built by Dave Klym in 1993, this car still has suspension that was designed in 1965, It is literally a wild beast to drive and can get chewed up in the corners by the new stuff. I'm more of a mechanic than a driver, but I'm still having a blast with this thing. No paddle shift, No ABS, Nothing but pure raw incredibly dangerous power.

Nice work keeping up with him in the twisties, but on the straights, that 993 just checks out. What a machine!

The 993 is making some ridiculous HP on the top end but I favor how deep in the braking the RSR can go along with the hold in the turns.

That Turbo is strong on the straight !

Great driving As usual Cory! That turbo is a beast on the straits.

Brilliant. Best racing video ever!! The top speed of the Fabcar is stunning but Cory gave him a driving masterclass. Impressive.

I believe this 993 is a true 6 speed manual, 700hp and 2200lbs. I saw it at an event. mind blowing

I had to laugh at the pass down the main straight.... made the RSR look like a Miata.. 1 million HP?

Cory is a great driver and was extremely PCA friendly for the first couple of laps. If he were in a normal pro race he would have been a bit more racey but then again you wouldn't see those kind of straight line performance differences in a pro race class. Fun to watch that 993 go. I wish mine had that kind of HP!

I've seen the 993 car before. Stooopid power. Looks like you guys were having a blast! He seems to not use all the given track. Dave Klym put the cage in my E36 track car back in '01.

love watching cory drive. the fab car is blocking pretty hard, it is amazingly fast in the straights though. wish we could have gotten someone like leh keen in the turbo.

Wow fantastic graphics . what video game is this ?

Simply put, this is an excellent display of a driver that "get's it" and another that needs horsepower to even stay in it. Dude needs to worry less about power and MORE about learning the basics of a racing line. Nice show as usual Cory F.

Blake interesting we tried to get a tube frame 993 through PCA tech a few years ago and all the scruts Frick, Henderson and all said no way had to have a Porsche chassis with a Porsche tub VIN.
@rsr146 жыл бұрын
GTP1,2,ect.. is for tube chassis cars. We talked to Walt about a DP car a few years ago and his response was if it scored porsche cup points in the series it ran in at the time then it was allowed. Fabcar built chassis that ran in IMSA when new are probably looked at differently than a current shop built car,
@richtillotson6 жыл бұрын
Cory I think that is right if car had Porsche race history or was built and raced before a certain date it was allowed also there is the all inclusive rule " at the discretion of the race officials" we had a true modern SCCA raced tubed framed custom built car that had a widebody 993 glass body hung on it.
@richtillotson6 жыл бұрын
Thought all PCA race cars needed to be porsche factory chassis how does a tube frame qualify? Anyone? Rich

Big turbo, just mash the pedal and write a check. Club racing at its best.

That 993 is fast but you held up good considering his driving lines through some of the turns were awful.

rsr is not fast on the straights because of the huge downforce and low torque.

+MrCosmin94 2.5 sec 0-100. Very slow
@cheesebusiness5 жыл бұрын
Torque doesn’t define how fast you go. You can easily increase the torque by using a low gear.

The guy on the other car makes some pretty bad lines at turns.

That Fab car driver really sucks, all this blocking , what is wrong with him , all this power and can't drive !!! Shame, ge should be driving Mazda Miata
@blaket20476 жыл бұрын
GSA FYI, the driver of the fab car is a guy that has fun a handful of times during the year driving this fabcar from the early 90s, with a suspension from the early 90's and a manual gear box. The guy in the rsr is a pro driver. Obviously the fabcar has the advantage on the straights, and obviously he doesn't in the corners. You ask why he's blocking? Maybe cuz he creates 25+ car lengths on the straights and then by the carousel the rsr is on his bumper again. It's a PCA club race, skill level and bank accounts can vary greatly.
@markjurczyk6 жыл бұрын
Like I said before, guy in the FabCar sucks, it's dangerous to let him drive in that fast group ! It's redicules that PCA allows jokers of this caliber to race with real fast guys. He will get hurt one day, or he will hurt someone. AS adult we should use our good judgment and common sense. Race cars are very dangerous , you start racing in slower classes, you polish your skills, and then , and only then , you jump in to beast of this caliber ! Case closed
@blaket20476 жыл бұрын
GSA GSA you have no idea what you're talking about. He's been racing at this track for 25 years and has more experience than most of these guys. You want to talk about dangerous? Talk to some of the Guys in the middle of the pack of these races that have almost no experience but have nothing better to do with 250K, so they buy a cup car, do two events and then race.
@pblake1236 жыл бұрын
Agreed. The 993 driver is decent, but Corey is on another level based on this video. There are far worse club drivers. They did a great job in keeping it clean. RSR driver was extremely sharp. Better braking and earlier on the power on exit. great stuff.
@stevehoagland11795 жыл бұрын
@@blaket2047 Guy in the 993 I felt was fine. Seen far, far worse. I felt his car placement wasn't optimal. I have been watching Corey's video's for quite some time and model most of my car placement after where he put's the car. I find it surprising when other's don't use the whole track to their advantage.
