Awesome close finish. I originally thought that one car had a super advantage on the other car with no contest. However, it is fun to be wrong. Both cars had pro/con and le mans was the perfect track to show the cars' strength and weakness. Good exhibition.

I have tried the short oval Vs. the road config at Monza on my own, if I recall correctly the road config was 2-3 s faster. In this case, the decreased drag of the short oval kit doesn't counter it's reduced power, lack of push to pass and lower grip.

I've tested this before many years ago, the road setup wins easily when you reduce the downforce a bit. And it's mostly due to how limited the oval setup is, the gearing sucks making you lose a lot of power out of the corners and the aligment is staggered with positive camber on the left side. Cornering is awful in every way. Now if you could fix the limitations the oval car could be a couple seconds faster, and if you put the 700hp engine in it, it's no competition.

What a close race! I went to the Indy car race in Nashville earlier this year. Had a good spot at the end of the bridge, 20 or so feet away from the cars as they came by doing that tracks top speed. So close that I would get hit with rubber chunks coming off the tires. It was awe inspiring to think about how racing drivers can strap themselves into something so small and be willing to go as fast as possible in a cramped area with a bunch of other cars doing the same. If you're a "car person" and you've never been to a top flight single seater race live, do yourself a favor and go to one at some point. Watching it on TV and experiencing it live with all of your senses are two COMPLETELY different things.

So if you did this for multiple laps, eventually the oval car would lap the road car. I didn't realize how much faster top speed was for the oval car. I guess the downforce simply slows it down that much. But 70 km/hr, thats a massive difference.

it’s less downforce, more drag. since the wings on the RC are bigger, the drag coefficient is significantly higher than the oval. to achieve the downforce needed for rc’s, you have to have the drag. also the gear ratios are a lot different. rc has shorter gears while oval has longer gears. even tho the rc has more power, its limited by its transmission

At .04 seconds faster per lap? Well, “eventually”, I guess. 181 seconds per lap gaining .04 seconds per lap is a bit over 4500 laps - just over nine and a half days later. Assuming a couple hundred identical pit stops. And an engine that can run for 10 days. 😂

Don't think it would've changed the results and here's why: The RC caught the Oval car at the Ford chicanes where you can't pass. It would've done the same switchback which wasn't quite enough

I'd give that to the road course model considering that it seemed to use a lot less of the track than the oval version, meaning it likely could have carried even more speed through the corners. I don't really know tho.

I think short oval setup is actually same power as road course setup, but superspeedway setup for long ovals like Indianapolis have reduced power to slow the cars down for safety.

The road course spec has more power to improve acceleration, the oval spec car has plenty to reach the speeds they intend it to race at. NASCAR is the same way, the cars make less power at superspeedways than they do on road courses.

Yes, it has less power and less drag. By being faster on the straights it also spent less time accelerating and more time lifting. All that at lower revs than the road course car beacuse of the longer gear ratios @@Catcrumbs

pretty sure the fastest car would be somewhere in between. Le Mans always required a lower trim in aero. A super long straight, would emphasize that even more. Had the road course car lose a bit of the aero so that the car would go say 340kph, for sure it would have won.
