Road Fork Cemetery, Pikeville Kentucky

An unexpected find in Pikeville Kentucky... my kids told me about this small family cemetery up on a steep hillside overlooking an apartment complex. There were no visible signs with info, or even the name of this cemetery. So I took the video, and came back home to Virginia to do some research. Using "FindAGrave.com", I was able to pin down the name of the cemetery as "Road Fork". I did this by verifying a few of the names I saw on headstones - Gracie Collins being the first one I was able to find. But one name isn't enough to verify... I cross checked a few of the other Collins names and found them as well. Interestingly, the Collins family names are the only ones I could find ANY information about online. There are so many other family names I was able to read... Ferguson, Stanley, Layne, Williams, Kemper? (hard to read this name), Story, Webb, O'Quinn, Jacobs, Branham... I did a bunch of random name searches on these, and was unable to find any records for a single one.
Are these your family members? Can you help me identify or locate information online about them?

Old graves being visited by someone leaving flowers etc . Is creepy thinking how much of the cliff has been washed away and how long before the cliff gives way ? Very peaceful yet I felt y’all being watched! Thank ya for sharing this place!

My fiance and daughter live on this street, and it's actually called Northgate in Pikeville Kentucky. The cemetery keeps going on up the mountain in random spots all the way up to the auger road and there are 2 more cemeteries on the hill. One is called Lassie Fields Family Cemetery and the other is further around the hill on the same mountain.

Hello Beau, thanks for watching! I discovered this particular cemetery seems to have multiple names... Road Fork Cemetery, Ferguson Creek Cemetery, and now you have revealed "Northgate Cemetery." I found the first two names on Find-A-Grave. I actually added a number of photos to memorials I found there. Also added a couple of memorials for people who weren't listed. It's amazing to me that they can get a several hundred pound coffin up that hillside, as steep as it is.

I never meant Northgate Cemetery. I meant the street it's located on is called Northgate. Your caption in the video reads Road Fork Cemetery. Road Fork is about 31 miles away from this cemetery in the video. There is a grave at the main top of the mountain about 350 yards from where you took your video that has the name of Tandy Hamilton.

I wonder if they were buried on the mountain because a favorite hymn has always been "Go Rest High up on the Mountain". Just a thought especially in the state of Kentucky. :)

Who knows?! I just thought it was really interesting, and thought provoking on how they get coffins up that hillside. I could still see a few stones up the hillside above my head, but I stopped before we reached the top.

In the hills of Eastern Ky, especially in earlier times, people were buried on the hillsides because the available flat land was used for farming and gardens, as well as house sites.

If you bring some flour with you,you can rub it into headstone and then you will be able to read it,the rain will then wash it away ,no trace left

Thank you! That's one I hadn't heard before... there are so many "tricks" that people have to read the writing... flashlights in the daylight, spray with water, pencil rubbing, the flour... I sometimes find that stones I can't read in person somehow become very clear when I watch the video from my camera later. That's so strange to me!
