Dad would take me to Burger Chef when he got dinner for the family. He would buy a small bag of french fries, just for us, that we would secretly eat on the drive home. It's one of my earliest 'father and son' memories.

Humble Evidence Accepter Great memory to have! My dad did the same at the swimming pool where we had to wait until my sister finished her lesson, he bought us French fries, a coke for me and a beer for himself. My mom would explode if she knew cause it was right before dinner. I've never told anyone and was really pleased to have such a "big" secret!

The late 1960's-early-1970's were, for me at least, the best times of my life! Being an old retired man isn't as much fun as I thought it would be lol. Thank you, Fred, our Boomer Memories are very close to my heart!
@FredFlix4 жыл бұрын
Jeff, I agree on retirement. It's boring. And now there are few jobs out there I can or want to do. The main problem is this: The very things that I used to come home from a long day and enjoy, such as sitting in my easy chair with a beer and a movie, I can now do ALL DAY. They are no longer special. A day off used to be like a precious gold brick. Now I have 10,000 gold bricks. Each one is no longer precious. And yet, I remind myself of the 42-year grind that I endured to put me in this position. I should be relieved and happy. But I'm not. Instead, I feel nothing. There are no more Friday nights.

@@FredFlix Isn't that the sad truth my Brother! Not to sound like an old woman here but, I worked my ass off for several decades, and although I loved my work and miss it very much, I am no longer physically capable to even wash my own damn car due to the extreme 'wear & tear' endured while working. After I retired it was wonderful, for about a week! Then one day blurred into the next, by now, it doesn't really matter what day of the week it is! Fun in life is long gone. Back In The Day, weekends use to be so very special, taking girls out to the drive-in, pounding a few dozen beers with my old pals. Now the girls are gone or just old and fat lol and my old pals are mostly dead, or they are too old to do much besides watch TV or KZbin. The highlight of their day is to make sure they take their medication on time, mine too! Indeed, sadly "there are no more Friday nights". But, we still have our Boomer Memories, and thanks to you, we can relive some of them.

Both retirement and work have their pros and cons and it also depends on how much money you have and who you have around you and your health. It can get a bit boring but then I remind myself of the work decades. I tell my wife , times may be boring on occasion but we have our freedom

I was 16. I don't remember much about the trouble of 1969. I know there was plenty, with a war, protests, racial strife and just the same old same old that we seem to struggle with as humans. But 69 sure seems sweet compared to today. Maybe things look better from a distance, like earth looks from outer space. Maybe it was sweeter. That's how I'll remember it.

Peter, don’t know how you could have missed it. 1969 was definitely NOT better than today. It wasn’t just the war. That was huge, but not the only issue.The advances made in our society by blacks, women, gays and Latinos stem directly from the turmoil of the late 60s and early 70s. All were vying to be heard at the same time. Much was wrong with our society and it reached a boiling point. Access to educational, business and occupational opportunities have opened, but you’re right that all those segments still struggle for equality today.

@xyrzmxyzptlk11864 жыл бұрын
3 wheeler ATV’s got a bum rap from people who tried to drive them like cars. Just like any two wheeled vehicle you have to lean to the inside of your turn, not just sit up straight while turning as in a 4 wheeled car. Through a fast corner 3 wheelers are actually more stable than any 2 wheeler, but you have to lean to the inside. Check out some ATV 250R racing here on KZbin to see how your inept Buddy should’ve been takin the corners. 🛵

The Mets were in town so we went to Shea Stadium on a Saturday afternoon. It was Little League Day and thousands of little leaguers were attending the game in their uniforms. Mets played the Astros and won 4-0. Tom Seaver pitched a 2-hitter and Cleon Jones cranked a two-run homer. At 2:07, that strong dollar price level was before the government stopped being even remotely honest on what it labeled as "money." The paper with some inked slapped on it had its last redeemable years into solid gold coins until Aug. 15, 1971. The Federal Reserve Central Bank cartel had a limit on how much it could counterfeit new pieces of paper, falsely labeled as "dollars" until that date. After, no limit at all without redeeming into gold, on how many it could create! THAT is the real definition of inflation-inflating! That counterfeit inflating later results in "higher price levels" on everything. Actually, it is the depreciation of the paper fiat currency, reflected as higher prices! Government and it's privately-owned Central Bank machinations, are the cause of that economic destruction in of its "money." Only gold and silver coins, as mentioned in the Constitution are the real money! Gold and silver can't be duplicated by evil central banksters, or its government protectors of their paper "money" scam!

Every TV was tuned in to the same thing so when you were walking down the street you could hear the TV coverage of the moon land coming from evert direction. For some reason it was like that whenever Hawaii 5 O or Mission Impossible came on also but the moon landings you just knew were something special.

What a year! We packed a lot of living into those twelve months. Traveled in style… a near-mint 1964 Cadillac. Power windows AND air conditioning. We still drove with the windows down (what was that about?). We went to California for some reason. Back then California was beyond cool, but the “coolest” was Santa Barbara! Even better than Carmel. We went farther north. Oregon was boring. Couldn’t wait to get out of there. Washington was better than Oregon but we then hit Seattle. What a place! Went to a family reunion at a place called Carkeek Park. It was on the ocean. On top of that special feel of the sixties, Seattle had an incredibly special feel. I bought a Schwinn Varsity before the bike craze hit. It was super fast (or so I thought), and gave me a freedom I had before never known, but that new freedom came at a huge price…$45!! Better than buying new. That was $72… plus tax ($75.25!!). My grandparents had a new, modern house. It had floating stairs. I was lying across several steps as I watched the moon landing. The moon was visible that late afternoon. I went outside and looked up. It blew my mind. I wondered what Linda was up to. I would have liked to spent the Summer making-out with her. I’m sure spending the summer with me was not even on her radar. Snake and Mongoose, Marvel comics, a powerful Honda 50….

They were owned by General Foods (Jello, Cool Whip. Post Cereal, to name a few) and had a lot of innovations in the industry -- for example they had a kid's meal before McDonald's had the Happy Meal. The one in my hometown was converted to a Hardee's for a while and then closed. I sure miss this place.

At 3:16. Sometimes I hearken back to my first day in 9th grade junior high school. I recall strolling into my English class and my eyes landed on this breathtaking girl sitting there, her sinewy legs crossed, a gentle, slightly nervous smile on her pretty face. I was soon to learn her name was Jody. During the handful of times over the years I have recall those few moments and how I described my feelings when my gaze first landed on Jody, I stop and realize that I am now a man who I could charitably call "middle age", and I am describing, almost lustfully, a 14 year-old girl.

It was probably the only "new" thing my dad ever got me...other than a 6 ft pool table..and I suspect that was mainly for himself. I absolutely wore that mini bike out. We built ramps for jumping..and my dog would chase me for miles and miles...went through at least 3 sprockets before engine wore out.

Fred, thank you for sharing. I was here but don't remember much. I think your Dad was dam cool for giving you your mini bike early. Looks to me like a perfect day. These videos make me smile,laugh then sad. we did not know how much freedom we had and yet most of us came home. Today maybe the kids have a different freedom that I might not understand? My parents house still has the paneling .

Today, i’m 52 years old. In 1969, I was only 1 and I remember my three gorgeous beautiful teenage sisters who would be taking care of me every night at home. In Montreal Canada, we didn’t have any involvements with the Vietnam War or any major conflicts as such, like you guys had in the States back then, but we sure had our share of issues dealing with the FLQ bombings in Montreal, over the French power and all sorts of different little things which we had to deal with, just like our fellow american neighbors too! I was well surrounded as a little baby boy. You were pretty lucky to be part of the Babyboomer’s generation. Thank you for sharing all these thoughtful memories, about the 1960s. It was a swinging decade. I was proud to be a little part of it too! Johnny from Montreal Canada 👍💖🌎😉🙏🏼🦋☮️🌈🌎

Thank you yet again, Fred. HUGE flashbacks for me here; even the music hits home pretty hard. Yeah, times were turbulent as they liked to say but still, compared to today, they were still quite innocent, especially for us kids. I'm very grateful to have grown up when I did, the last of those more innocent times before it all went to heck. I'm sorry subsequent generations never had a chance to do the same.... -Ed on the Ridge

Any time I think about that World Series, I think of George Burns in the title role in the movie _Oh, God!_ saying, "My last miracle was the 1969 Mets." Who'd of thunk it? Comic books going up to 15 cents each felt like the end of an era; they had been 12 cents for as long as I had been buying them. I turned 14 that summer, and remember hearing about Woodstock. At the time it felt like I had missed a magical experience, but over the years I've decided that I'm probably better off with my fantasies of the event. That first moon landing was incredible. My dad and I watched Neil Armstrong take those first steps on the lunar surface on live television. It was the first experience that we shared, not as father and son, but just as two people in awe of history unfolding in front of us. Thanks Fred!

I remember that very day! In NJ, it was a warm sunny 74 degree day, summer like. I walked from my house to the apartments to meet my friends Mike and Byron. We walked from the apts. to the T Bowl shopping center and the bowling alley. We bowled two games, we were terrible but did not care it was all about the fun, the laughs, jokes and just having fun together. After that we went for chili dogs at Hardee’s then to the luncheonette to buy car and hot rod magazines. We then walked back to the apts. to the garages there got onto the roof and began to discuss everything in those magazines. My friend Byron loved funny cars and racing, Mike and I loved the new cars. Especially the ‘69 Mercury Cougars and the Dodges with their hemy engines......that was a great time in all our lives!
