A mile, maybe, from Parth Galen in a little glade not far from the lake he found Boromir. He was sitting with his back to a great tree, as if he was resting. But Aragorn saw that he was pierced with many black-feathered arrows; his sword was still in his hand, but it was broken near the hilt; his horn cloven in two was at his side. Many Orcs lay slain, piled all about him and at his feet. Aragorn knelt beside him. Boromir opened his eyes and strove to speak. At last slow words came. ‘I tried to take the Ring from Frodo,’ he said. ‘I am sorry. I have paid.’ His glance strayed to his fallen enemies; twenty at least lay there. ‘They have gone: the Halflings: the Orcs have taken them. I think they are not dead. Orcs bound them.’ He paused and his eyes closed wearily. After a moment he spoke again. ‘Farewell, Aragorn! Go to Minas Tirith and save my people! I have failed.’ ‘No!’ said Aragorn, taking his hand and kissing his brow. ‘You have conquered. Few have gained such a victory. Be at peace! Minas Tirith shall not fall!’ Boromir smiled. ‘Which way did they go? Was Frodo there?’ said Aragorn. But Boromir did not speak again.

@@veritecarry7142 we certainly can't build like the Egyptians could... and Roman concrete was actually superior to the modern version
@toastehh093 ай бұрын
We absolutely can build as the Egyptians could, and we absolutely can make superior concrete to Rome. We choose not to. Ancient engineers were handed the sum wealth of an empire and told to built for eternity to satisfy a dictator's ego. We know exactly how long we want a building to last and choose to build for that. It's particularly ironic because Lord of the Rings' message is the exact opposite of building eternal edifices that will last forever. That's extremely Saruman brained. "The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater"
@damianjblack3 ай бұрын
@@toastehh09 except that we don't even build to last a generation. Most homes in the US are built with wood frames and siding and they last maybe 20-30 years at best. If they were built from brick and stone and properly insulated, they would last for centuries. Not only that, they would be cheaper to heat, safer from weather events like hurricanes, and more economical because you wouldn't need to rebuild every 30 years. As for LotR's message, yes, all things pass. But that doesn't negate Minas Tirith being over 3000 years old and still intact. "The old that is strong does not wither." As for the Egyptians, their monuments weren't built to satisfy a dictator's ego. They were built to connect the people with their gods, and those who worked on them were ensured an afterlife in paradise. They were literally called 'mansions of millions of years', and it's expected that, barring any accident or deliberate acts of destruction, the Giza Pyramids will still be recognisable more than a million years from now.

I re-watch them every year. These films are peak cinema. I wait for something, anything, to reach for what these films achieved, but I don't think any film will make me feel the way this trilogy does. The only others that did were the original Star Wars films, and now Star Wars is long dead and they're in the process of murdering LOTR as well.

@@DuchessofEarlGrey I was lucky and on several occasions had wealthier friends pay my way to travel with them. I will say this, over and over people have expected me to think my travels were so great, and they weren't really all that great. You are right in thinking that it is not super rewarding unless it's your little obsessive niche place that you are visiting. But if you get the chance to go on the cheap, it's nice to have stories to tell even if the experience wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

Where is the sense of adventure? If you love LOTR you should know that while the journey is long, it is worth it and you get not only to see incredible places and landscapes, but experience so many different cultures, foods and tastes and much much more. You will make new friends and do things you never thought you would. It's the best! Give it a go.
