Mike, I'm a trial lawyer and SoCal car enthusiast and mechanic. I'm also wildly sympathetic to ppl with bad luck bc I grew up poor and I know shit happens. Don't attribute to malice what can be explained as stupidity. But dude, this is bullshit on a monumental level and the issue falls squarely on the company which built the motor. This is 4Piston's problem. If you're in the hole money because of this, you may have a claim for reliance and compensatory damages. Once is a fluke, twice is a pattern, three times is confirmation. I hate seeing people get boned by companies that refuse to acknowledge their mishaps. That's a business which is run recklessly. Lesson learned: do not buy ANYTHING from 4 Piston Racing anymore, period. EDIT: "Wouldn't saw isn't anybody's fault", that's no the way to cover the issues you have faced: 4 Piston racing's fault for using used parts, not letting you know about it. United for having a shitty service. Those are to blame, trying to cover 4 Piston Racing irresponsability and lack of professionalism doesn't help anyone on the industry. Do you really think that any of your community that doesn't have a 250k KZbin channel or that has this super known project will get the same treatment?, i bet that there's a lot of more people with this kind of issues that have been fucked.
@OBSDoug2 ай бұрын
I see a lot of comments about 4Piston and I can't speak personally on any of their products but I seriously appreciate your attitude through all of this. This is a testament to your incredibly hard work and all of the support of your friends and I think that speaks volumes about your character and that means a ton these days. Keep up the amazing work Mike, you've got an incredible talent and it's an honor to watch it in action via KZbin.

Maybe it’s time to have Honda build you a motor
@Low7602 ай бұрын
Mike might as well build his own motor and it would be more reliable. The guys with a 7 second k24 Celica are full billet after killing a ported k24 in the 7s

Honda doesn't have 1000hp capable engines off the shelf, if anything, Mike would need to build his own engine.

@@j.d.8593He’s not aiming for 1000hp anymore. A Spoon crate engine would probably manage the 500-600hp he’s after just fine… For a similar price to the 4 pissed on stuff.

This video is nuts. I know exactly how you feel and I’m there at this moment. I have an event at the end of this month and my car is fairly far from ready. I saw you there showing off the car on Saturday and if I would have know what you went through just hours before I saw you, I would have congratulated you and shaken your hand. Big congrats on getting the car out there. It was beautiful in person. Big props!!!

While it's a huge bummer you couldn't make the event to drive, I have to say that it was still an absolute pleasure being able to see this car in person and snap some photos of it. I haven't edited any of them yet, but they were easily the best shots I took all weekend. The car looks unreal up close, pictures and videos don't do it justice. Hopefully being able to show the car to us all at the event is some sort of silver lining. Thanks for making it out despite all of the challenges!

I do not know how you managed to stay calm when you heard that 4Pistons was reusing parts from a blown motor is "standard practice for them", if it was me I would be furious, especially since I was not told and asked if I wanted them to reuse it. I really hope 4Pistons is reading the comments and learns for this. I get that it sucks for them, building race engines is really hard and I dont want to sound like an armchair engineer by criticizing them, but putting myself into a shoes of a potential customer, this sort of stuff just shouldnt fly. Especially when it blew up in their face, both figuratively and literally. That said, I absolutely understand why you dont want to pin the blame on them, because at the end of the day it wont give you back a chance to drive the GT-K at this GridLife Laguna Seca. At the end of the day a lot of stuff just went wrong, the GT-K not making it there tuned is as much of a fault of the rebuilt engine failing as much as United Airlines being unreliable garbage (not surprising but unfortunate). I am really sorry that you didnt get to drive the GT-K on track, but Im really happy that despite all of that, you still had a blast at Laguna Seca. I wish you luck with your new engine and sincerely hope no more unlucky tar ends up sticking to your shoes, cause you were figuratively stuck at the misfortune drag race start line due to that bad luck tar xD. And If someone from 4Pistons is reading this, I sincerely hope you do not make these mistakes ever again, else your reputation will never recover. I am at least happy for sending a new engine through express shipment, but I do think you at the very damn least owe a massive apology the people at StanceWorks and other clients whove had issues with your engines. That and *Please Never Ever Reuse Blown Engine Parts Without Asking Your Clients*! And in case someone from Falken is reading this, YES PLEASE DO DELIVER THE KERRARI IN THE FALKEN BIG RIG FOR NEXT EVENT!!!

I don't know anything about anything, but based only on reading other comments, I'll go ahead and assume 4p will do it again, and again, and again. It appears to be their business model. If I was told I could get a 1000-hp K20 for $12,000...I would just assume corners were cut everywhere possible. I mean heck, a pro-built SPEC MIATA engine can cost double that or more easily.

Always enjoy a 244 GTK video, but since I just saw this car in person at GridLife, I enjoy this even more. Videos do not do this car a justice, I couldn’t believe how low this car is. It was great chatting with you at the event, really appreciate you giving time to the fans and really just BS’ing with us. As mentioned, I have a soft spot for e21’s and love Neek’s car. The icing on the cake is that I made it into your video of me taking a low shot of the car. Can’t wait till next year, hope to see this car go full out and put some great times down. Keep up the great work!

So 2 channels I watch regularly, have had multiple failures from 4pr. Stuff doesn’t ‘just happen’ and 4pr are 100% at fault on both occasions. I know nobody watching either channel will ever consider using 4pr after this but please Mike, hold them accountable and don’t ever use them again.

Depends on the parts really, and whether you consult the customer. Some parts would be very safe to reuse but bearings that can be very cheaply replaced are not that.

I’ve put in some hours to get cars ready for events before but you persevered way longer than I would have done with this. It sucks when things are out of your hands but your attitude with it shines through, no screaming about it on camera, just hard hard work. Onwards and upwards!

Your patience is amazing! While United definitely screwed you over, IMO 4Piston is the one at fault and should not be trusted for not telling you ahead of time they would reuse parts from a destroyed engine. I look forward to you having much better days ahead!!
@pieflies2 ай бұрын
It’s also their stupidity or cheapness to reuse the bearings. They could have reused most of the parts safely but replaced the high risk, cheap parts like the bearings. Especially on a motor they know is going to be on a pretty big KZbin channel.

@BigPatViggen2 ай бұрын
You are still kinda new to racing and it’s unmovable deadlines. It’s still exciting and a challenge and a helluva lot of fun. But you’ll soon realise that unless you have a huge crew (and even if you do!), it’s always like this. Something always blows up a few days before, something always fails that has never ever failed before. Do that for a few years, and it’s not so fun anymore. You either switch hobbies or it becomes a full-on addiction,the kind that you can only quit in huge pain. Enjoy! 🤣
@DJzSith2 ай бұрын
This guys knows. Also spares seem expensive until you experience the cost of not having them. If you are super serious about having a racing program, you need to get a spare engine. perhaps this is an opportunity to experiment with a slightly different build/builder. Thank you for the quality video as always, and for showing us how to deal with hardship and keep a positive attitude :)
@drbsmith3182 ай бұрын

25ish thousand dollars in engines (and more in supplies and travel) and no racing? You would be well within your right to trash 4PR, entirely unprofessional on their end using reused parts on a motor marketed as a racing product. I really hope you guys keep pushing, I wanna see this thing going full tilt.

4 Piston motors are overpriced trash. Motor shouldn’t fall apart that soon. Specially at ideal. You’re working with the wrong company. It’s very unfair for you to go through all this. You could have been testing the car at this point. 4 Piston has been building engines for a long time and they still can’t get it right. You build a motor to be able to take a lot more abuse. Not to fall apart on idol. Your other 4 piston motor lasted less than 24 hours of use at the track. You should talk to Jeremy from Drag Cartel or ERL or contact Charles at Skunk and tell him Art from Teampacman sent you. I’ve know Ryan for a long time from Rywire and he can vouch for me. It sucks to see all that work for nothing. You did your part. The issue is 4 Piston and nothing else. I k ow a lot about B series and K series motors. I was the first person in the US with a K series in a CRX back in 2003, when the K series Type R motor was first released.
