Hello Tim, I wanted to comment here rather than in the Facebook group with all the judging... I share your appreciation for this spot and I hoped you would enjoy my story... I could write a book. My family moved to the big island when I was 9yrs old, 1976... Ahalanui warm pond used to be private property, closed to the public and fenced in.... For three years, 78-79-80, during the summer, my grandfather and I were the caretakers for this (Deluz) property and the adjoining (Allison) property... So when I was 11-12-13 yrs old I basically lived there... During those years there was a wooden raft floating in the middle of the pond and I would set up my tent and sleep out there on the raft at night under the stars... Stay out there during rain storms and read books... And spend the sunny days tending the property and exploring the cliffs, picking opihi, and fishing. I learned to swim there... I learned to fend for myself, how to survive with only a pair of shorts and a pocket knife and a box of matches until the adults came back on the weekend ... I retired my Haole feet and never wore shoes or slippah... I have so many memories there but I couldn't EVEN tell you what the inside of the house looked like. I was so sad to hear of it's destruction... Many times I have told my son that we would go visit there and he would see where I changed from a boy to a man. Now... It's just these vivid movies in my head that I hope I can share with him through my stories. Anyway... I saw your post and your 14 years and what it meant to you. For me it was a lifetime ago and it meant everything... .... 🤙🏼🤙🏽🤙🏾 Aloha braddah

so glad you took this video. It was the quickest drive to the ocean for us from our home in Leilani Estates. My home was taken down by lava as much of the rest of this beautiful space.

Such a beautiful video......hard to accept that so much of that land has been taken by lava.

Not yet. But it's been cut off by the lava, so it's currently inaccessible
