To this day, still one of my all time favorite movies. Incredible. The story, the pace, the cinemetogrophy, and the the music. The fact that it was based in the depression helps too. I love watching shows and films from that era. Incredible.

Everyone loves The Godfather and Scarface as their best gangster/mafia movies (I love those too), but Road to Perdition is definitely my favorite just because of the genius and touching story that comes with the gangster action! This movie had such an amazing score by Thomas Newman and an excellent screenplay...definitely one of my top 10 favorites!

Greatest Irish mob movie ever. Amazing in so many ways, not the least of which was the generally stellar acting and the sublime cinematography. Really draws one in, the powerful family bonds that become deepened and solidified, the solemn yet moving musical score, the apparent emotional conflict evident within Rooney Sr., Michael Sullivan and his own son, along with that final act of justified revenge followed by the final reconciliation of one's prior, bad deeds with that of being a loving and humane father, thirsty for some type of redemptive act. All in all it was a superb movie, almost flawlessly executed with all the various elements tied in together marvelously. Best Irish mob movie ever!

One of the most gorgeously shot and scored movies of the last 30 years. This was Conrad Hall as cinematographer, who also did masterpieces like Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid. His last film, which pretty sure won him a posthumous Oscar. It is probably his best shot film. Film students: study use of light, dark and reflective surfaces running through entire film.

This, is film. Cinema. First and foremost it is art. And a collaboration of music and script that is forever rare. Let alone blessed with a cast that has proven itself prior and then to follow. Thomas Newman’s soul found this story exceptionally challenging that it welled up deep focus and the songs had already been written in his emotion. The blend of manifest destiny major counterpoint to the tribal Gaelic modes and minor depressions, we’re missing the power people. This is 20 years old. It shouldn’t shame what we are experiencing today as it does. In spades.

You know you've seen an amazing film, when it takes a cliche concept and still manages to absorb you through delivery. There wasn't many surprises, but the actors/characters and their development are what shine. The only unfortunate thing is the fact that i like many others had never heard of this film beforehand. P.S. the crazier thing is the fact that this was based off a graphic novel.
