For those saying "duh, he should've finished him off" don't seem to get that the audience is afforded the perceptive off Law's character dropping the shotgun, falling to the floor, and clutching his face with both hands.... Hank's character, laying on the floor has no view of this. All he knows for sure is that he hit him with either the bullet or debris from the lamp. He has no idea whether he's going to pop up shooting again or is waiting behind the sofa for Hank's to expose himself. All he knows for certain is he bought himself a brief moment to disengage, find what he came there for, then retreat. Overall, a very sound tactical decision.

there hadn't been bullets shot in awhile
@danieldickson8591 Жыл бұрын
@@tien90802 Could be multiple explanations for that. But Sullivan wasn't there to kill, but to get the files and get out. And Law's character demonstrated that he was still very dangerous.
@TheStapleGunKid Жыл бұрын
Well the actual reason Sullivan didn't finish him off is because he was out of ammo. You can see his slide locked back after he fired the shot that wounded McGuire. Odd though because he only fired four shots and his pistol held a maximum of 8 rounds. You'd think he'd be fully loaded before this started.

Dylan Baker is so great as Mr. Rance. This first scene with him, at :27? Every one of us has known one of these smug, stuck-up pricks at one time or another, and Baker plays it to perfection.

I love this scene with the urgency of Michael Sullivan Jr. trying to alert his father with the horn, as the telegraph is interfering. The surprised reactions of both Mr. Mcguire's and Michael Sullivan's as Jude enters is priceless. SUPERB directing, and OUTSTANDING supporting roles here.

Bullshit because the accountant knew Jude was coming and got his back The only surprised was Tom

I love how there's no reaction to this massive shootout in a major hotel. You don't see panicked crowds runnout of the hotel, and of course somehow the badly wounded McGuire manages to escape before the police show up.

Odd that Sullivan shoots his gun empty with just four shots. It holds 7 rounds in a magazine, and you'd think he go into this with his mag fully loaded. Also did he really not bring any spare mags or a backup gun with him? If he had, he could have eliminated McGuire right then and there.

at 4:39 .... funny how that accountant screamed and ran like a little girl when the assassin kicked in the door and started shooting.... ha ha ha!
@Phoenix778616 жыл бұрын
My take on Sullivan not finishing off Jude Law was Michael. Throughout the movvie, Michael is his priority. If you notice, Michael keeps honking and honking. Sullivan doesn't really seem to respond to the honking in the few moments he has to hear it, maybe because he said honk twice. Then Jude Law kicks the door in and a gunfight ensues, in which we don't hear the horn anymore. My take is that perhaps Sullivan perceived Michael was in in trouble and that he needed to get back asap.

Tom should’ve just finished him off when he was down. I never understood why a hitman didn’t do that.
@trueblue62015 жыл бұрын
In this case I would say fleeing before the police arrive. Plus there was also the fact he was not sure how wounded he was. If he went up to finish him off and he still had his hands on the gun Mike Sullivan would have died there. Also he had his son to worry about. So staying there was too risky and would not have helped solve his problems.

If the academy not only allowed women but also men to have two spots in the supporting category,I´m sure mr. Law would´ve have been up for an Oscar along with Newman. It´s a really intense,creepy,sinister,vile performance....and pretty boy pulled it off. Law was awesome back in the day,now for some reason,he´s...meh.

@BrotherHugo500 Nope. This movie is set in 1931; the P38 wasn't introduced until 1938 (which is what the "38" designates). The pistol Jude Law has is a Savage model 1907. It took a .32 cartridge.

A shotgun has an effective range of 6 feet... if you knew anything about guns you would realize it is wildly inaccurate beyond that, and that's the reason the blast hit the wall. You can aim at one spot but the blast will spread out and hit a completely different area.

Insurance guy? That man was the mob's accountant, and Sullivan could have walked in a shot him, no questions asked, if he wanted. (Remember what he told him at the beginning?) (Rance) "What do you want?" (Sullivan) "...information." Sullivan wanted the files, nothing more.
