Boy things have really progressed in 50 Years that I have been following reining and riding them. A friend that I used to train for and would help a little qualified for the NHRA in Non pro with 2 different horses. He was too busy with harvest to go. My friend amd I said we would take care of cattle and drive trucks whatever. He died end of July an hour after roping and doctoring a calf. Don't put off your dreams! He was like a brother to me for fifty years and fit as a fiddle slim but family genetics caught up with him.

One would like to think if they do everything right, prepare themselves and their horse, it will all be great, or, there won't be problems. This showed me that even professionals face their share of challenges, the importance of being flexible or having a Plan B, and don't beat yourself up over things when they go wrong. Thanks Matt!

Matt, this series was a fantastic representation of the reining futurity and all that goes into training our reiners. It was my first year attending Oklahoma city qualifying for the NAAC, and was a fantastic experience, visited your stalls too! Hope to see you there sometime, and I hope you continue video series like this in the future! (I'm west coast too! Washington state)

Partner and Thiago are looking forward to the show season starting. We have started riding Peaches to get her back in shape after her time off. Curry is doing fantastic! You can go to my instagram and see a short video of him running and stopping HUGE!

Is this abuse? Do horses like this? Curious!
@annikavanderbroek20694 жыл бұрын
the horses are so insanely talented by their breeding alone so most of what you see is just Matt fine tuning their natural abilities. As you've seen throughout the series, the horses who don't have the determination to be show horses don't perform as well, so like Peaches, they get time off and perhaps and different career. So long story short, no this is nowhere near abuse :)

Annika Vander Broek I just started watching and getting into horseback riding and wanted to make sure I wasn’t do anything wrong. Thank you so much for the information. 💕
@dianepeoples39024 жыл бұрын
Why do they hang there head down so low? It looks so unnatural?
@itsemilee15024 жыл бұрын
Most horses tend to do it as they become more fit and soft in the bridle. You show them a couple times with tools (training fork or draw reins) and they just kinda hold onto that knowledge usually. I would argue that no horse discipline is "natural". I'm certain this talented trainer does not need critique from those of us who simply do not compare.
@RoanAndRoaming2 жыл бұрын
Horses will hang their head when relaxed and loose throughout the body, they also lift the base of their neck and back for collection to really engage the hind end :)
@vandemanferretstasmania.ni95763 жыл бұрын
Two things I’m finding more and more disappointing in reigning as time goes on, is that the heads are getting too low and their feet are getting sloppy. Judges want to see this, and it’s getting ridiculous. Head and neck should be nice and even in a straight line from poll to tail. The feet should be clear, clean and concise not looking like they’re tripping or sedated. 2007 Reserve Champion, Big Chex To Cash was a gorgeous performance
@RoanAndRoaming2 жыл бұрын
Honestly I think dressage and western pleasure have that the worst. Dressage leaves the backend behind and only cares for how high the front legs can go, while pleasure lopes so slow that the horses use their head to transiton weight. Reining seems to be on the better side, their head low comes from either genetics or relaxed working, very few gadgets ever needed. Worked on loose reins and soft to aids. Pleasure usually use a lot of gadgets to get the horses head to stay even, while dressage likes to rollkur a lot. Keep in mind these are babies. They're gonna be nervous and clumsy

I still have a problem with the " tucked" neck....in the old days, ranch horses were WATCHING the cattle, not the ground

This horse will think about trotting at the top of the circles as long as you 2 point ride the circles. Stop riding the front of the horse. Sit in the middle and ride the lope from the back of the horse.
