I'm paused at 2:17... I went to 2nd Grade at Center Street Elementary, some miles to the left.

2:30... Iberia Street. We lived in an apartment complex close to Admiral Doyle Drive, but I believe that complex no longer stands.

Keep an eye out for our upcoming series. We skirted the edge of New Iberia on US-90. That series will begin on Wednesday, May 16.

The reason for the rerouting of hwy 182 is because the state has transferred ownership of hwy 182 through downtown Broussard to the city of Broussard. As you cross the railroad there is an “end maintenance” sign.

This has been done through this and a couple of routes through the city of Youngsville. These cities have taken over these routes to either create their idea of the ideal road (roundabouts) or that they feel they can maintain them better than DOTD (see the resurfacing of old 182 in Broussard)

La 182-2 ends at the railroad entering Broussard. It becomes la 182-1 when it becomes pinhook and becomes 182 again at youngsville hwy which is now 89-1 due to similar circumstances

So is LA-182 no longer a continuous route? It’s been 5 or 6 years now, so I don’t remember exactly how that worked.
@504RoadTrips2 жыл бұрын
@@dphinton2003 the state has been planning to turn over about half of its routes to local maintenance since around 2016, but very few have actually been relegated. I think it depends on how much money a municipality has to be able to perform the necessary maintenance and improvements.

@@504RoadTrips correct. 182-2 ends as you cross the rail road into old Broussard and 182-1 begins at the Lafayette city limits and runs about 1/2 mile until the intersection with Youngsville hwy and Southpark. Mainline 182 follows concurrent to Us 90 from the new Albertsons pkwy exit to Southpark.

Thinking on moving to New Iberia after the first of the year. I have been there numerous times and stayed for days or weeks at a time, and have never loved a town or it's people like I do them. Each time I was there , some sort of festival was going on and I would have people walk up to me and say " Hey your that guy from Oklahoma, I remember you from the last festival ".... It just blew my mind. So I will be a resident before too long. If anyone reads this and has any info on New Iberia , I'd sure appreciate it.

Greg Bowlan I wish we had had more time to drive around the town. It’s a very interesting city and so different from everything else around it.

It was kind of eerie like I knew my way around town..... I would just pack up and leave to go there and stay a few days or so.... Cool town... Any certain area to be aware of?

Try replying to the post from Camille Rosenzweig down below. She says she lives in New Iberia. If she gets notified of the reply, she should be able to give you better info than I can. I've only driven through the town a few times. I know they have a nice high school, based on an event I attended there 20 years ago.

Greg, there is a gumbo festival, a Spanish festival, Sugar Cane Festival (it is mentioned in this video), an antebellum home called the Shadows. Good local restaurants (Bon Creole, Duffys, Seafood Connection, Janes, Brenda's Diner, and others). A meat market serving the best boudin in the area (Legnon's). If you live in New Iberia now, welcome. We will open our arms for you.
