Winchester ends Virginia as Bristol began it 328 miles back: an intimate, historic downtown with brick features, two-lane thoroughfares, and a quartet of US Highways. It's fascinating how often Virginia cities and towns have 4 US Highways passing through them. The list includes, besides Bristol and Winchester, Roanoke (11, 220, 221, 460), Lynchburg (29, 221, 460, 501), Warrenton (15, 17, 29, 211), the newcomer Danville (US 311 added recently to 29, 58, and 360), Norfolk (13, 58, 60, 460), and Suffolk (13, 17, 58, 460). Great to see so many on this trip!

I live only a few miles from Hwy 17 here in Orlando. Didn't know it went up that far. It's aligned with 92 here.

It crosses Florida and then runs up the east coast until it's pretty well into Virginia and then heads a bit inland again before it ends.

8:15 Even though US 11 and VA 37 are technically not concurrent, I am impressed that you got between VA 37 and I-81 without sitting in traffic. That stretch of US 11 is one of the most congested segments of highway I have ever driven outside of I-278 in NYC.

I trimmed out several minutes of stoppage at one traffic signal. I now see where I messed up with that concurrency. The Wikipedia article is misleading, saying that it connects to I-81 at both ends. But deeper in, it says that it uses US-11 to connect to I-81 at the north end. I had to pull up VDOT's functional classification maps to see the end of it at US-11. I don't know why they didn't just run it all the way to I-81.

@@504RoadTrips Yeah I should have guessed on the trimming. I think the big issue with VA 37 is that it was more or less planned/built as a bypass for US 11 without thinking about free-flow connections to I-81 long-term. VA 37's interchange with I-81 Exit 310 has traffic lights on VA 37 and is currently just a huge diamond. There are long term plans to extend VA 37 east from SR 642 just east of I-81 Exit 310, but I am unsure if a timeframe and how far it will go.

The only part of West Virginia I've ever been through is on US-11 and on I-81. I've done that several times. So 20-30 minutes at a time. The Martinsburg area, from what I understand, is not representative of the rest of West Virginia. There's a lot of extreme poverty throughout the state that wasn't evident in Martinsburg.

Only US 222 AND 522 are only North -South Highway On the east Coast 😊

US-22 is East-West, so logically, its spur routes are North-South.

Both US 322 & 422 meet in Downtown Cleveland at Public Square where US 6, 20 AND 42 Meet along SR 8, 14 AND 43 Only US 6 AND 20 still goes on but what is Interesting US 422 AND US 224 Meet in New Castle in Western Pennsylvania where US 224 Eastern Terminus ends both goes through the Youngstown Area but US 224 MEETS it Big Brother at it Western Terminus at City of Huntington in Northeastern Indiana . US 22 Western Terminus is in Downtown Cincinnati where it Meets US 42, 27, 127 AND BOTH I-71,& I-75 @The Ohio River
