If you pay attention you can see the guy at multiple stages in this game. You see him right before you pull into the gas station by the bushes, you see him leaving your car before you exit the gas station building, you can see him leave your room after you go get the desk worker, and you can see him go behind the building by the coffee machine. Same with the first game, it all about paying attention to your surroundings.

This is the type of trip that goes against every trip rule I was taught. Don't travel at night. Don't take unreliable transportation. Don't go through uncharted/rural/unknown areas alone. Always plan your route and your lodgings, and have some back ups if possible. Trust no one. Young ladies in the 80s and 90s were especially brought up with these lessons.

@@justinmartin4407 That's not how that works. The characters of Batman and Superman are NOT in the public domain because they are still being used in regular publication. Simply referencing them is something anybody can do, but you can't legally USE them without permission. The Fleischer Superman cartoons are a special case where the copyright to the shorts has expired because the studio that made them no longer existed to renew the copyright, but the characters still belong to DC. There are plenty of Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny shorts in the public domain but both of those characters are still copyrighted.

I had to sorta hitchhike when I was a little kid. My dad had his issues and told me to ‘get lost’ after my bike tire deflated on a ride to the store and I had issues pushing it along. I was 6 and took him literally. I just left him. I got lost, and was pretty terrified. I remember passing by houses wanting to ring the bell asking for help, but being taught ‘stranger danger’ made me afraid to. I ended up seeing a lady put her kids in the car and I felt safe enough to go up to her and ask for help. Figured she was a mom and wouldn’t hurt me. Fortunately, she was very kind and took me home. You were allowed to move at the end there. The mic was there for your microphone to pick up your voice, not your character's movement. Before that moment it didn't pick anything up even though you were moving around and talking, you probably didn't have a mic hooked up or something. If you moved and watched the creep, you'd have seen that the manager punched the creep in the face when he was coming out from looking around the bathroom. Also, it's a bummer to hear that even though the cartoon was on low volume it still overpowered on the creeps voice saying "hello?" "Is someone there?". It's weird though that I didn't notice the flash of the creeps camera before he stood in front of your door. There are also "secret" scenes and clues in these games. There was supposed to be a scene of the creep at the gas station sabotaging your car and running away to his van parked on the road when you came out, but it probably didn't happen cuz you weren't at the right pump to have him activate.

Ugh. I love MatPat, but he somehow always manages to break the game, or just miss crucial plot points and events, then blame it on the game being unclear. Sometimes it is your fault, you just missed things Matt. With the checkov’s ghost lady, it is based on a true story as Mat said, so it’s just adding to the creepy atmosphere she really experienced. Oh, as far as where she was first drugged - I think she got drugged from the first drinks machine. I think Joe was good, as he ultimately saved her, and Yh it was probably a kidnapping or something for a drug ring. Maybe the game creator will weave one narrative between all five chapters. Or, if it is just five separate stories, that’s cool too. Either way, I’d definitely like to see a theory on this game.

I mean to be fair the stuff he missed were REALLY easy to miss..so that's just a fault of the game not him. Sometimes it's not the players fault when something is obscure or you have to look a very specific direction to see it (and it can occur without you looking). Though a lot of the time he's just confused, he doesn't mean to blame the game he just doesn't understand what's happening..a lot of things really can look like a fault of the game if you didn't know about them prior till you look into it and it's obvious it was your fault after.

Hey MatPat. This was a cool playthrough because of your vigilance (even though the player character ingested pills against your will lol). As a tiny girl, I never really identified with the "Ha! Come at me with an axe, I can take you!" mentality that guys I've watched tended to have when playing this. Besides, I think most girls could tell (and fear) that the attacker is more likely to sexually assault a girl in this situation THEN murder her afterwards OR ship her off to be trafficked, and those add whole new layers of fear. Idk if you or Mirror Matt considered that because the only possibilities you mentioned are murder and cults. Unfortunately, I think the implications of rape have been highly reduced so the manly male players get even less of a hint. The ghost that the guy at the gas station mentioned was originally said to have been raped and murdered on prom night, not killed in a car accident. Also, note that Holly has been drugged, there was a man in her closet, and Joe eventually complained about 'goofy noises'. I wonder what that was implying 🤔. And in Gab Smolders' playthrough, you can hear a creepy guy whispering "Hello?" into your ear over and over in the last part. It upped the creepy factor by a lot. The vending machine is probably something that the attacker put to drug victims, and he purposely removed it when Holly was already drugged just so Joe can't see it (but that's just a theory- A Game Theory). The story is still confusing either way and by the end you didn't know who you should have trusted (probably no one since Joe did save you but he refuses to report this potential assault hive to save the motel's rEpUtAtIoN). But anyway, I was really excited to see you play this and I hope you got the warm bath and the hug from your loved ones that you need.

@@Shadow1Yaz I... Maybe. I was aware of it, but I was acutely aware that it was a true story and the narrator was a 19 year old female. Whether actual rape occurred or not, we'll never know. There's no mention of her clothing not being on...guy could have just been a creepy doing things in the closet while watching her. Which is honestly just as bad. I don't know. This entire episode had me way more anxious then the last episode, probably cause I'm a girl and I would be terrified in Holly's situation. In fact, I'd have just staid locked in my car till daytime. Or locked myself in the motel room using the furniture.

Considering her clothes were still on and she didn't seem to freak out over anything like rape I don't think that's it and reading too much into it... I think the guy was just creepy. The weird noises were likely just her making noises in her sleep as she was heavily out of it..people on drugs do tend to make incoherent blabbering or noises. Joe did think you were on drugs, so this is more likely. What the guy wanted is kinda unknown as anything he could get other than watching you struggle he would of done and it'd be noticeable. If he wanted to rape you he would of and left..if he wanted to kidnap you he would of before you woke up! Ect. It doesn't make much sense.

He's the guy in room four right next to where the coffee machine was. The motel owner was sketchy but if you'd been a little closer you'd have seen the manager find the guy and knock him out. P.s. The pills were probably aspirin or some other medication for pain. The manager mentioned having other drunk guests so having some medicine to help with a hangover in each room would be beneficial.

Yes! Love mat pat but I don’t think he realised the implications of being drugged and finding a man in the closet after, esp bc someone commented that joe having “heard weird sounds from the room” alluded to the character being SA’d. He also seems to be somehow missing the important things in the bg (someone leaving your car at the gas station, the man going into the room next to the coffee machine) which provides a LOT of context for what’s actually happening. I was kinda shocked when matpat said he would’ve thought the logs thing was a ploy by tow trucks to get money (or smth similar) bc my immediate thought was kidnaping and or rape (as so many stories from women have proven) along with the things you mentioned it really is jarring to see the difference.

As an afab I feel quite differently, actually, but that is probably because I grew up in a country where it is extremely safe to walk around at night, even if youre a woman. I don't think this is specifically a afab vs amab thing..it literally just depends on where you're raised and how you're raised. In safer areas people are more likely to say they're alone no matter gender, and not all guys are care free enough to say they're alone.

yeah, "climax" if the logs were set up on purpose, why didnt the kidnapper just come to get holly at the time? if the kidnapper was a kidnapper why would they hide in the closet the 2-3 hours holly was asleep? time to explain my theory. Not a kidnapper, but a r*pist This explains why they did nothing during the logs. Out in the open This explains the drugging You get drugged, go to bed, get r*ped so to add on to the first reason, Out in the open and not drugged. When you're asleep and drugged you wake up at 3. WHY WOULD THE KIDNAPPER JUST GO TO THE CLOSET? and why would you see the closet door closing Clearly you were r*ped and there was plenty of time to do so! Joe even mentions it, "goofy noises" It's really just understandable and not understandable Also heres some minor backup details the part where the guy busts in he calls her pretty lady or something (i also cant tell due to it being dark but does the guy only have pants on) ok so here comes the question Why did he leave the room and want to break in? I don't exactly know but im assuming it was for holly to not scream or something but For a r*pist at that point what are you gonna do? im assuming backup plan was kidnapping so technically a kidnapper but im still unsure (if someone else understands better please explain) so thats what ive got. r*pist r*pes holly and this is probably an even bigger fear for girls considering i see comments like "as a girl we fear this" and i assume they don't understand but its not cool to know in the real world if the roles were reversed, nobody would care about this

Awesome playthrough- absolute lightning speed for y'all, i'm proud (though I do love the longer let's plays too). I've already seen a couple of comments about this, but I really just wanted to bring up how differently men seem to react to the overall situation/story presented- it's understandable, but still kind of bizarre to me that it hasn't seemed to click for male players in a lot of the videos I've watched. As a woman you kind of get it beat into your skull that if you get stuck in a situation like this, then that kind of might be it for you. There are so many tiny red flags that really don't seem to register for a lot of the people I've watched play this particular chapter. The story of a woman being killed in a 'car accident' really seemed to me like a sexual assault followed by murder story that just got toned down/ used as a cover up. The fact that the manager chose not to report anything to the police (I'm pretty sure a lot of colleges (used to?) do the same thing with sexual assault cases for a number of reasons- i may not be right about that but it sounds pretty in character). And especially the part where the guy outside started yelling "pretty lady- open the door"- because the second that you know that it for some reason has to do with the fact that you're a woman there's a whole new world of screwed up possibilities that become a lot more likely than being murdered or forced to join a cult. Either way, I really liked the playthrough- hope y'all do more in the future!

@@felbarashla yeah but maybe it would be too dark for matpat idk. From what I’ve seen so far, this channel loves covering horror stories but doesn’t really cover phycological horror or adventures that include that sort of stuff anymore. They used to. They made a whole series off of Fran bow and miss misfortune. They began playing omori too but they never made a part two, probably because it got really dark. They don’t cover that side of video games anymore. Murder? Sure. Death? Sure. Psychological trauma? Heck no. And it’s kinda sad. The only game similar to that concept that they talk about is fnaf and that’s because Matt’s obsessed with it lmao. I love fnaf but I wish they played games like “ What Remains of Edith Finch “ too. Also, I’d love to see him and mirror mat play “THE TEST” even though it isn’t really a game lol.

This is really reminiscent of an Episode of The X-Files, season 8, episode 4, Scully is in a road trip to somewhere and she stops for gas but they gave her a mix of gas and water so the car breaks down, then she goes and argue with the guy in the gas station and he's like "oh, it must've been the rain but hey, there's this town with and only one of the houses have a phone, you can go there" and she goes and the phone doesn't work, she has to stay and help a guy and it turned out to be a cult town who venerates a monster... It's a good episode

This gave me so much anxiety! This is one of the many reasons I won't travel by myself anymore. There's too many weirdos that want to harass or hurt women. Several years ago I had to take a technician licensing test, and of course it was in the middle of nowhere. I had no car, so I took Greyhound. I started on a bus, but had to transfer to a large van. I was dropped off, and had to wake a mile or so to take the test. After the test I had several hours to wait until my return trip. I thought about renting a room to get some sleep, but decided to sit on the bench where I was dropped off. I tried not to get too anxious while waiting for the van. Thankfully nothing happened. Sometimes I'll randomly remember this trip, and think about creepy things that could have happened.

That's why mostly irl horror is scarier to me because i will be more afraid about getting drugged in a middle of nowhere more than some hitchhiker ghost that haunt a random cabin or something.

People in the comments keep using this as some sort of evidence that Mat and men in general are kinda ignorant to the fears of a woman being in these kinds of situations... but honestly I don't think that's what's happening here. Don't get me wrong, there totally are differences between men and women and how these kinds of situations play out, but I don't think it's fair to assume Mat was completely ignorant about the possible sexual assault implications, or the fact that the player character is female. I just think he chose to try and immerse himself into the game, which is a completely fair thing to do, and play the game as if he was really in this situation himself, and obviously, he is a man, so the implications are different there (not that men can't be sexually assaulted, it happens, just not as often). Also remember that this is KZbin... Mat could get struck down so hard for talking about sexually assault like that. It's a sensitive topic, wouldn't be surprised if he did notice and just avoided bringing it up.

Yepp, and prepare for emergencies as they can happen anytime. Always have a ‘go kit’ in your car with essentials like a first aid kit, flashlight, extra water, and possibly even a flare gun. It would be smart to carry a self defense weapon too in the event some creep tries to mess with you. Even if it’s just pepper spray.

I've... KIND OF hitchhiked. If it counts when you're like... 8 years old and knocked on someone's door. My mother (very drunk and not thinking straight AT ALL) had sent me off in the middle of the night to go get my sister from home, while we were at her friends apartment. I didn't even know how to GET home, she gave me verbal instructions to follow. I got lost about halfway there and had to knock on a strangers door and ask the man inside for help. Luckily, I knew my address, and he just so happened to not be a pedo, so it went well for me. I got in his truck without hesitation, because I was a CHILD, and he took me home. When my mother's roommate answered the door he was furious that I had been sent out into the night all alone. It caused a HUGE fight between them when my mom got home hours later. Found out a few years later that the guy who had taken me home and spoken with my mom's roommate? Yeah, he went to jail for killing his wife. To this day I don't know if he killed her was before or after I met him. I don't know if it was self defense or what, and I don't want to know. Found out from her roommate that he had seen it on the news when the guy got arrested and recognized him. So yeah. Got very very VERY lucky.

It felt like since MatPat put himself into the situation instead of seeing it through the eyes of the protagonist, he didn't get to experience it the right way.
