For anyone who’s curious: “mise en abyme” is a term used for art within art - say a painting of someone looking at a painting, or a story within a story. Makes sense with the story of this game!

@Mystykgaming translation of words and their meaning can be different.
@Dark_Red_Echo2 жыл бұрын
The original comment is correct, it’s an art term. It originally referred to the space created between two mirrors-an infinite abyss of reflections-and was then picked up by the art world to describe the “painting within a painting within a painting” phenomenon. It’s a lot like an idiom-the literal translation is not the correct meaning at all-for example, when we “break the ice” with someone, we don’t *literally* break any ice. If a non-english speaker said “breaking the ice” means to become friendly with someone and you said “no, it means to break ice into pieces-that’s the literal translation!!!” you’d be wrong. That’s basically what you just did, @mystykgaming -You’re absolutely wrong.

General trivia: 2:00 Mise en abyme (meaning "placed into abyss" in French) is "a formal technique of placing a copy of an image within itself, often in a way that suggests an infinitely recurring sequence" (or, in this case, "games within games"). 38:48 Bartitsu, known as "the martial art of gentlemen", combined elements of boxing, jujitsu, cane fighting, and french kick boxing (it was practiced by Sherlock Holmes in his adventures). 2:18:16 Yes, the "game"/narrator was voiced by the French developer Pascal Cammisotto (he's the "creator" you see at it 3:00:50). 2:42:48 The "code song" makes a lot of programming references (for example, "boolean" is a kind of variable that either takes the values "true" or "false", and it's interchangeable with binary values in many programming languages - with "0" being "false" and "1" being "true"), but the "command line" at the end is just meant to be interpreted as a poem (it's not actual code). 2:56:44 Sad fact: this game's Kickstarter failed, so the "KickFailer" e-mail is a reference to that. 2:50:48 Nope, the right answer for the restriction enzyme (which is a kind of protein that cuts DNA at a specific sequence) question was not there. The answer was EcoRI and SalI.

I had to search "mise en abyme" and I learned some interesting stuff about art and literature. It's used in art to describe something within something else, like a coat of arms with a shield inside of a shield, and in literature for things like the "play within a play" trope. I guess in the context of this game it would refer to the fact that it's a game within a game
