Road Trip: Thrifting in the Hudson Valley!

Join me for a full day of thrifting and antiquing in the Hudson Valley area of New York. We'll check out 7 different stores in total and take in some local scenery. When we get home, I'll show you what I picked up and how I styled my finds. I hope to see you there!

In a few years, my husband will retire, and we will be moving to Glenn's Falls, NY. We will definitely be visiting Millbrook, NY, as it's less than a two hour drive. I love seeing all the places you visit on the East Coast because it gets me excited to move and get our forever home started by shopping some of these thrift stores you visit.

We love Dutchess County, NY. If you venture towards Millbrook again, try to visit Innisfree Gardens close by. It’s a strolling garden by a lake. It’s very Zen and being out in nature is so good for the spirit.

Lovely video. You are in my area, Millbrook. I know all those shops and other than Uncle Al’s thrift shop the prices are outrageous. But Millbrook prices in general are extremely high. But as you say fun to see different things.

I thought the store I went to right after Uncle Al's wasn't too bad, but the last one I went to was very high (depending on the vendor). You're lucky to live in such a beautiful area! I wish we could have stayed longer.

Hyde Park is a terrific one day trip from CT. Eleanor’s house & the others are a must see too. Then dine at CIA & drive back! Enjoy.

Just found you & look forward to watching all your videos! I’m 73 but still love thrifting and collecting ! I live in Port Ewen in the Hudson Valley. If you do go to Hyde Park there are several great thrift stores (with very reasonable prices) & antique shops!

Wowza!! There are so many fabulous and interesting "hunts" in treasure findings outside of CT. Never mind if you have a lot of hauls or few hauls, but more importantly is your shopping in those places.

It's so fascinating to see really beautiful and unique objects in antique stores, isn't it? I learn so much every time I go! (I often return home with a bit less money in my pocket, but it's well worth it!)

@@WorthingtonHome Buy what you must to make your business sustainable. There is another you-tuber that I watch "lady Mary Beth". She does not buy a lot of things in her haul, but she does buy good stuff for her business. I am hunting things for my home only, and I am very thrifty with my haul too. It is a fact that you are the owner of your own money.

Hello, Always a treat to watch your videos. I am amazed at how you fit it all in your house. I am guilty of that with antique tables, tiffany style lamps and figurines. I am aware that when I list my house- I will have to pack everything away as I don't want any prospective buyer to be swayed by my own specific decor. Sometimes I just sit in my living room and just look at it all and remember all the memories of where I purchased each piece- and I do remember each and every one. My 65th birthday is coming up in less than a month and I am looking for a day thrifting with my husband in CT or the surrounding towns. What can your viewers, and you of course, suggest as far as thrifting locations that are priced more reasonable than the Hudson Valley :)😳 for a day jaunt? I am thinking Middletown and The Steaming Tender thanks to your channel and your viewers. Any other suggestions? Thanks for your channel and the great responses by your viewers. Fondly, Cindy

Hi Cindy! My poor house is busting at the seams with all of our finds that we can't live without! You're in good company! If you're coming to Connecticut, I suggest Marlborough Barn - there's a restaurant right there, although I didn't go to it myself. It's my new favorite place. Other options I would suggestion would be in the Branford area - I love Homemaker Thrift and Sarah's Cupboard. There's a Goodwill in the same town if you're so inclined. Pandemonium in Deep River is lots of fun. Barn Sale in Hamden is THE BEST, but they have limited hours, so you have to check. (There's a Goodwill and Salvation Army on the same street. There's a Goodwill Outlet less than 10 minutes away if you're braver than me). I used to love Corner Collective in Terryville, but they recently had to close due to a fire (nobody was hurt). If you're looking for antique stores, that's an entirely different conversation. And if you like old books, that's also a different set of recommendations. I hope this info was helpful!

Loved going shopping with you and fun to see how expensive these stores were. There must be people with deep pockets that come here. Loved your two tea cups as I have a thing for English c/ s but I don’t need anymore. Those were a little overpriced at SA as I can usually find them for under $5.00 at thrift stores.

You need to hit up online auctions for that area and skip the store. Old Kinderhook, Hudson Valley Auctioneers and The Benefit Shop have been great sources for me.

Go to West Point , then FDR home and Vanderbilt estate in Hyde park.
