Road Tripping Route 66: A Spontaneous 1500 Mile Journey Along the Mother Road

This past February I spontaneously planned a Route 66 road trip all in less week because I was buying a vehicle in Arizona and wanted to drive it 2500 miles back home to Maryland. Route 66 has always been a bucket list road trip and it should be on yours too!
There is so much to see along the route, but I only had 5 days to do the entire journey! I had so much fun on the trip would love to do the whole Route 66, next time taking about 10 days to the whole trip.
My Stops for Attractions/Parks:
📍Winslow, AZ - Standin’ on the Corner Park
📍Holbrook, AZ - Wigwam Motel
📍Petrified Forest National Park
📍Alburqueque, NM - Breaking Bad Film Locations ( • Breaking Bad Film Loca... )
📍Big Texan Steak Ranch - 72 oz steak challenge
📍Cadillac Ranch
📍Blue Whale of Catoosa
📍Bucees - Springfield, MO
📍Gateway Arch National Park
Nightly Stays:
💤 Las Vegas, NV (I flew in late at night)
💤 Holbrook, AZ - I stayed at the Wigwam Motel
💤 Amarillo, TX
💤 St. Louis, MO (this was a long stretch of driving)
Tips:
‣ When I do this trip again, I would start in Chicago and drive west to Santa Monica. That way the time differences makes the days longer.
‣ I would allow for 8-10 days to avoid long days of driving. If you enjoy museums, there are lots along the route, so maybe consider even more days for the trip.

The best stretch of rt66 in AZ and maybe in America starts in Oatman and ends in Ash Fork. Oatman/Kingman/General Hackberry store/Seligman /Ash Fork all in succession and then onto I40 and Flagstaff. 90 miles before Amarillo, a stop on Rt 66 in Tucumcari N.M. overnight if possible,at the well known "Blue Swallow motel", maybe the ICON of all motels on rt 66. St louis Arch was spectacular , no time limit when we went up on it. Holbrook, Winslow and Big Texan Steakhouse great stops as you stated. So glad like you had a wonderful time and you seen so much in 5 days that most people wont see in a lifetime,... Thank you for bringing back these golden memories and taking us along..Never enough time when out here.....visiting these treasures..We loved every minute out there, traveling from Pa...quite a few times

Yea those are great recommendations! I would have loved to spend 10ish days doing the whole route, but for what my time allowed, I had an action packed trip! and I'm glad it brought you back memories :)
