Glad you liked my country. It seems everybody goes to Glenfinnan for the Jacobite steam train which is associated with Harry Potter. However, Glenfinnan played a very important part in Scottish history, it is where the standard was raised by the clansmen along with Bonnie Prince Charlie at the start of the 1745 rebellion. I would recommend visiting the visitor centre there and crossing the road to the Jacobite tower, climb up inside and pull yourself through the wee opening to stand with the statue of the clansmen. The view down Loch Shiel from there is amazing.

Something you may not have realised is that stretch of road you travel down at 11:00 on the way to Fort Augustus is in a famous scene in the cult 1980s movie Local Hero, which is about an American who comes to a small Scottish village to build an oil refinery but ends up falling in love with the place and the people who live there. It's full of famous actors and won loads of awards, inclining for its soundtrack. In fact, even fans of the film don't know where the road is.. but now you do.

When asked if anything is worn under the kilt, The correct response should always be "No madam, Nothing is worn, it's all in perfect working order"
@johncampbell9216
@johncampbell9216 Жыл бұрын
You can’t wear anything under the kilt, as underwear would just drop to your ankles when marching. Haggis is not “sheep’s stomach”. the scaling in which it was traditionally cooked was a sheep’s stomach. These days it’s a plastic casing, and you don’t eat the casing… except when eating hotdogs and wieners, they ARE encased in the same stuff as sheep’s stomach. The haggis contents are exactly the same thing as any samosa filling.

Note for any future UK trips. At 6:38 you seem to be filming the countryside while driving. Using a mobile phone for any use while driving is a big no, no. If the police catch you it's a £200 fine and six penalty points on a licence. Don't know what happens if you have a non UK licence but it's still not worth the risk.

Hate to break it to you Jane, but we don't go to church on a Sunday morning. Most Scots - in an attempt to recover from too much drinking the night before - walk Zombie-fashion to the nearest newsagent for some burnt rolls and a lot of ice-cold Irn Bru.

@Indianajaneadventures
@Indianajaneadventures 10 ай бұрын
I exclusively use Google maps. There is a download offline function. I would also recommend getting a local SIM card on arrival so that you have a phone to use. It’s about 20 pound- very worth it. Then you will have GPS as well

So, what did you have to do to get gas?
@Indianajaneadventures
@Indianajaneadventures 7 ай бұрын
I went inside a little station and told the cute old man working I did not know what to do! He actually had to turn the gas on manually which I have never seen. Then he walked to the car did the whole thing for me. Pretty sure he wrote the number down and I paid at the end. I did go to a modern pump later and it was a little more user friendly. When in doubt, applicable to most anything, just ask! Especially in Scotland. Friendliest bunch.
