I've been enjoying your channel the last few months and it has helped me grab some games such as Shadows over Camelot, Forbidden Stars & El Grande. However, I totally disagree with your summary of Anachrony. I really don't think it's particularly complex. Not because I'm a genius, but I choose to focus on a few things a round. For example 1. Get a building 2. Time travel 3. Increase my resources and work towards the extraction goal I have. Each to their own though. Keep up the utter bollocks! 😁👍🏻

The rulebook mentions simple solution to your problem with randomness: no dice variant where you simply get 1 paradox for each tile where you have most warp tiles. If you think about that's just taking an average. Also it is not true that there is no mitigation to that luck aspect. I can calculate if I'am able to get an anomaly this round. If it's possible, then I have some solutions for that: I can simply try to repay my debt (so use or build and then use powerplants) before the end of the round. Of course, I must replay on tile where it will bring me lower than the current highest number of warp tiles. I can also use multiple buildings and abilities to mitigate that (extra paradox space, clearing warp tile from timeline, clearing paradox with scientist etc.). Of course, it's simpler to get them in 2 players game than 4 players game, but there are at least few of them in the base game.

Tried the no dice variant but that’s sucks too - seemed like a cheap cop out. I don’t want to calculate anything in a board game. If I enjoyed that I may as well take a maths course. This game is simply too much trouble. I used to like it but as I’ve got older I don’t have the energy.

I don’t have to calculate anything in Castles of Burgundy or Stone Age. Anachrony isn’t even complex…reminds me of an intellectual complicating simple matters for the sake of it.

I also have the KS version of this and it hasn't come off the shelf in years. We never even tried all the expansion modules. The game for us besides being very complex, was too short and too long at the same time. It was too long in real time for how many actions you felt like you really got to take, and then it was too short at the end. The game never hit 7 rounds for us, it ended in 5 nearly every time, or round 6 just had 1 or 2 hexes left to use up. There wasn't enough time to repay your loans sometimes, and for a game with so few rounds, there was a start player position to fight over and start player mattered a LOT, as taking the same action as someone else took required extra water and there were not enough slots for the action for everybody.

I'm glad I passed on this one. I do love time travel, but I just don't have the group to justify this game. And those turns looked looooooooooong.

I really like this game, but I can completely see that it is a Marmite-experience. It's not a game you grab from the shelf for a quick fix... ever. It's really one for the Kanban / Twilight Imperium crowd.

It’s ironic because I enjoy those 2 games. In fact we’re playing TI4 on sat 11th.

I had a similar experience as you with this game. Initially i really liked it for a couple of games. Then i played it again maybe 8 months after and the game doesn’t seem to have got any easier and tiring. The game design i think is great and variability in initial resource and tiles always give different brain frying puzzle.

I think you may have knocked me for saying disliked this one in the past. 😉 Glad to see you’ve come around. I still can’t get over how bad the set collection part of that game is (if I remember it correctly).

Honest re-take on a very popular game. I feel like too many boardgames aspire to be videogames in terms of mechanisms these days. There's something to be said for the elegant but deep game design of the early 2000's. I do like the evolution of incorporating more theme into games though. Now we just have to learn that we don't need a basement full of plastic to get there. ;-)

Honestly love the game, but agree with a lot of your negatives. It almost feels like the base game is a starter for the ideas they had coming later and some of the filler was just a placeholder til they could get the other ideas in.

Played it a while back. Couldn't agree with you more. It's slow, somewhat weird and while the minis are definitely an improvement, the base game is quite a mess. I mean, yeah, I would play it once a year, but for that amount of money... pass. BTW, I love the quality of your videos! keep it up.

This game lacks so much player interaction that it feels like your solving seperate puzzles with your friendsin the room... for hours.... hours. Boring as heck. People just like it because the time travel element was a very cool idea but one good mechanic does not make up for the boring ass gameplay of the rest of this game.
