I want to make a point, so I quote Wikipedia ."Most of the design work was conducted by GM Daewoo (now GM Korea), with GM's Opel division responsible for most of the engineering" Opel is a German brand, known for engineering tough and reliable cars with good value for the money. "GM in the United States has upgraded the existing plant in Lordstown, Ohio to manufacture the Cruze, investing more than US$350 million" It's made in the USA, can't say the same about Toyotas. What's not to like?

I am thrilled that Chevy got it right. ( I do agree about the wheels Ross) compared the the cars of yesterday Cobolt, Cavalier, and Ford got it right also but both these cars are only new to us now and have been available over the pond for a while now. I would not have considered the Cruise until Now. Good going Ross

The car really impressed me. I'm use to a low riding car with pretty bad suspension because of me lowering the car. This car is planted, not as low as I would like, but you can feel the road really well..and in bumps where I would have to cringe to take it..it felt really nice. The ford focus is similarly sprung, but is stiffer and a lot funner to throw around. The available hatchback on the focus is the seller. Test drove a Honda Civic and Prius C too..and both the Cruze and Focus surprised me.

Ross Rapoport You are absolutely right about the annoying wide ratio transmission. I am a pro driver who drives manual cars only, and these wide ratio transmissions are a pet peeve of mine. A modern multi 6 speed transmission does NOT need to be wide ratio to get great fuel economy. Actually I can't speak for the Cruze ECO because I don't know about their 6 speed. I do however know about my 2014 Cruze with 1.8 engine and 6 speed manual. The huge jump between 1st and 2nd gear drives me crazy. There is absolutely no need for this because the 5th to 6th shift is very narrow (about 300 RPM) and fast. The gearing on a modern multi 6 speed should be close ratio. In other words every gear should be spaced the same. A 700 RPM split from 1st to 2nd gear and a 300 RPM split between 5th and 6th is nuts, and creates lots of issues with this transmission. Most people will not wait for that slow 2nd gear shift, and will just ram it, and destroy 2nd gear synchromesh. GM is scratching their head and wondering why 2nd gear gets taken out. Their design engineers are not manual transmission enthusiasts, and their daily driver is an automatic, so this might explain their silly manual design. They need to phone me, and I will be glad to help them with this.

I think this car is very nice for the money. I like the interior design a lot, and the outside looks sporty. Its got a good stance too it. Kicks Toyota Corolla's and Honda Civic's butts. The only competitor I think would be a Mazda 3 or a Hyundai Elantra. Chevrolet is coming out with some really nice and competitive cars now. Which is great to see.

This is an amazing car for 21k. Easily the best 21k (performance ) car value 2 years ago. The manual will hit 60 in 7.9 seconds and tops out at 131 mph. Now the base CX5 or the Ford Fiesta ST offer better real world mileage and are both more Entertaining to drive for the same money. Still a solid value and my favorite Cruze.

I went to test drive a cruze friday, but the dude that was workin there had an appointment lined up. Honestly man the civic can't compete anymore, the Hyundai is awesome they really stepped their game up and is prolly the cheapest way to get a nice car that gets 40mpg. I will say as far as interior goes the chevy is prolly got a slight edge on the hyundai espeically since it's supposed to be the quietest car in its class, but i haven't gotten to test either of them yet cause of my busy schedule.

one thing i like about little econo cars like these is that they tend to look very striking and stand out, as i imagine the designers want to do away with the idea that a cheap economical car has to look bland and unappealing. the designers of these cars don't have as much to lose when designing whereas merc bmw etc. have a lot more to be careful about when designing their cars

I had a Cruze as a rental for a week while my Nissan was in the shop from an accident. I had a love/hate relationship with it. I found the ingress/egress very poor. The doors are small, the the seat is low, and the interior feels rather cramped. This being said from someone who drives a smaller Nissan Versa sedan. I really liked the ride, handling, and power from the 1.4L 4cyl turbo. I did NOT like the mushy steering and transmission behavior during acceleration.
@delicatessen567013 жыл бұрын
I own the exact car reviewed (6MT, Interior and all). I'm at 12K miles. City (or spirited) driving can put you down into 33 MPG territory. If you stick to highways and drive like you're not in a big hurry to get places you can easily obtain 38ish MPG. Most I've gotten was 45. I was trying to test the limits of what was "possible". Not a realistic expectation. The Driver Information HUD will usually quote you 2 to 3 MPG above your actual result (I do the actual math every time I fill up).
@MavrickDrewery12 жыл бұрын
Oh, my fault. I thought you were talking about the drivers seat. I misread your comment. Yeah, I was kind of disappointed with the room in the backseat too. Behind my seat there is absolutely no room for a persons legs and when I do scoot the seat up, my head still hits the roof. Plenty of room up front, nowhere near enough in the back. lol

@Acc0rd79 Thanks 4 taking the time 2 respond. Being in Australia & not a supporter of Holden (our version of Chev), I have no experience with their 'lasting' & resale qualities. UR point about GM (Holden in Australia) spending many years & even more $ on cars that a declining number of people wanted. IMHO I think that even the public funding won't 'fix' the problem for them. But when it comes 2 buying from a failing company. I would buy from them if it was the best for the $ & needs I had.

It's made in factories around the world, including Lordstown Ohio, by General Motors which is based in Detroit. It's not a Daewoo. For example, some Mercedes and Porsche models are made in Finland. That doesn't make the cars Finnish, does it? Every car-brand uses factories around the world.

I have the 2011 Cruze Eco and I gotta say, the longer you drive the car the more you want from it. When my warranty is up I am going to make a lot of changes to it. I am going to install a bigger turbo, performance exhaust, better brakes, a software tune, and better wheels. The car has a lot more potential than what GM sells it with. Either that, or I`m just going to get rid of it cause I crave a v8...

The interior is surprisingly cramped. It's noticeably wider than my Versa sedan, but surprisingly my smaller Versa feels cavernous inside in comparison. I also found the Cruze to have very small doors and was hard to get in and out of without banging my head. I'm only 5'9". If I had kids or planned on carrying anyone in the backseat on a regular basis, I would nix the Cruze from my shopping list just because of how cramped it is inside.

The Cruze has an undoubtedly sporty feel to it. You sit low. The seat is hard with impressive bolstering. The ride is firm, and it handles flat. I was impressed with the power from the 1.4L turbo. I was NOT impressed with the powertrain refinement. Quite crude, actually. The 6spd auto has clunky shifts and the engine sounds crude. Getting back in my cheapo Nissan Versa sedan felt so plush and smooth in comparison. That's pretty sad.
@delicatessen567013 жыл бұрын
Of course there's always something about it someone won't like. Could feel a bit underpowered to some people. Wish there was a spare tire. Wish they used the bigger fuel tank. It feels cramped for "huge" people (i.e. Don't be huge if you want this car. lol) XM is nice. I actually like the "hooker fishnet stocking" interior. Get comments on how nice the car is. Trunk's HUGE. I got suckered into an extended warranty though, so be mindful of saying no to anything extra they try to sell you

Not to mention all their other outdated designs, like the brand new Camry that looks like it's from 2005, Honda is having the same problems. They're going backwards in design instead of forward like GM, Ford, Chrysler and Hyundai/Kia. You're stuck on an outdated 1980's point of view, get with the times man.
