The fact that the transmission has 10 gears DOES NOT mean that you MUST ALWAYS start out in the lowest gear. Even in an 18 wheeler with an empty trailer you can easily start off from a dead stop in at least 3rd or 4th. In a pickup you could probably start it off in 5th or 6th, and never harm the clutch or engine.

THIS IS AWESOME. Yeah, it's a guy thing. I love inventive, creative DIY stuff like this! American ingenuity at it's best. I don't know this guy, but I wish he was my neighbor, I'd bet we'd be friends spending time building KOOL stuff in the garage! Diesel engines,High performance engines,even steam engines, did anyone see the guy that put a RADIAL AIRCRAFT engine in his vintage pickup truck? This is what Hot Rod guys, Custom car guys, bikers and bike builder guys are all about. Look how popular this stuff is now on TV! I was so disappointed to read all the negative comments below. I admire a guy that takes an old school bus and turns it into his dream motor home, or some of the wild builds you see on Leno's Garage. Negative people SUCK and are most often losers themselves, never let them put you down. Build your dream.

No tach so no idea on the RPMs. It will do about 90 though, wide open. Which is a little better than the stock gearing. I swapped the 4:10 Dana 70 out in favor of a 3:54 Dana 80. And it IS a regular cab. As for the compressor, I'm using an engine driven air compressor. It's a Bendix bx2150. 9.5cfm at 1200 RPMs and fed by oil and coolant from the motor, so it's a 100% duty cycle compressor.

Top shelf mate, really talented to pull this off. I noticed the classic dodge steering, if you don't have Parkinsons you can't drive a straight line. I had a 92 W250 as my first rig and I cannot drive new pickups because I'm always trying to turn the wheel to drive straight.

Its astonishing how many stupid people are commenting on the height of the shifter. That is the stock height for that shifter, I had the same gearbox in my dump truck, the shifters in big trucks are on the floor and the transmissions are underneath the floor not in a tunnel like a pickup. If he wants to he can cut the shifter down but it is probably easier to drive with the tall one. The fab work and engineering to get one of those gearboxes to work in a pickup is quite extensive. Seems like Jeepinass did a very nice job on the conversion

I love all the hate comments from people about the fucking shifter height..... the man has said flat out its the stock eaton shift stalk...... in a semi the transmission is mounted much lower from the floor of the cab than it is in comparison to a custom truck build where space is limited.... and the cab is much smaller and lower slung as well..... having a trans tunnel dropping the cab about 6 inches to a solid foot lower Where a semi has a high mounted cab with a flat floor board.... that doesnt saddle the frame rails..... so all of this together Making the factory shifter length appear to be longer than stock when in reality it is stock length...... personally i would have shortened it to about level with the top of the dash..... im not a lanky person and shorty levers usually seem to have a further throw... so i made a 6" extension for mine bringing it level with the top of the dash board I find this to be the best hight Its the most comfortable for me Its easier to find And it shifts smoother with the added leverage.... but that is what works for ME this guy may like the long shifter...... its his truck he built the fucking thing and he built it his way. The fact you asswipes have to comment your distaste about something so fucking meaningless and irrelevant to your existence says a lot about how the sniveling whinny pissed off bitches you really are........ who gives a fuck. About the shifter in SOMEONE ELSES FUCKING VEHICLE ..... the fucking thing could have prosthetic leg.... a dildo..... a fucking tennis racket for a shifter and i wouldnt care..... why because its NOT MY TRUCK So shut up and quit bitching about someone else's toys that they put time effort money and work into...... As for mr "real downshifting".... i wouldnt be so quick to brag when you rake every gear...... .... personally i will never coast in a vehicle of any kind when trying to slow down..... i let my speed drop and shift accordingly then use the brakes..... only taken out of gear when its at a full stop..... i was taught to never be out of gear while moving.... its a quick way to loose control of a vehicle....

I want to do this to my 95 12 valve can someone run me through what the whole process is like (trans, bell housing, clutch) and how the range selector would work
@jacobclubb56245 жыл бұрын
Yea, the range selector is air shift, so an air system is required, the 12 valves in induatrial applications had a engine driven compressor where the vacuum punp is on your truck, or you could go electric compressor, you'll need an sae 2 or 3 flywheel housing, the part that bolts to the back of your engine that the trans couples to, a custom transmission mount is needed, these transmissions are not supported in the big trucks because of how the engine mounts, a custom driveshaft is needed, these yokes are a lot bigger than the yokes in your truck now. Its not a lot of work but it is, if that makes sense. Lots of little things. I just converted my chevy to a 12 valve 10 speed.
@jacobclubb56245 жыл бұрын
The clutch and flywheel wouldnt ve hard at all. Go to your local diesel shop and tell then what your doing and they can get you your clutch and flywheel.
@DavidHutson-pt5pe5 жыл бұрын
That transmission in a 250/2500 truck seems pretty pointless. The transmission is SO heavy, and the rest of the truck chassis IS NOT strong enough to enable the truck to take any real advantage of that transmission. Okay, yes, it's a cool conversion, and a cool toy, but there is also no point in leaving the shift stick that long in the pickup, other than having it as an "attention getter", the fuller transmission do not require that much leverage to make the shifts, and the long shift stick is there because it is at the most comfortable height for the driver in the trucks for which the fuller transmissions are designed. A Spicer 7 speed would make a LOT more sense in the 250/2500, AND the 350/3500's.

Need to preselect on the range shift, not hit the range when you come to neutral or your synchro won't last long
@jeepinass9 жыл бұрын
It still has an interlock that prevents the range shift, until you leave the gate. I always hit the selector so fast coming out of the gate, that the timing for the actual range shift itself was exactly the same as if I had preselected. I tried both ways, plenty. As stated in another comment, occasionally, with the preselect, the range box would hang up between high and low, causing me to grind like Hell hitting sixth. I then had to move the shifter back to neutral, select low range, then back into high range, and try to rev match gears. A total pain in the ass, causing way more damage than this myth of preselecting. So, I always shifted just like in the video. Three years of DD duty and this trans was flawless in operation. Also, I have confirmed with several old timer truckers, that it was often placarded that it was NOT necessary to pre-select. This being, of course, back in the 80's when this trans would have been in service.
