Fun fact: A Roadrunner's diet is of lizards, small rodents, and even snakes. I live in Arizona, and at my work, we always have a local Roadrunner that likes to chill around the area. One time, i saw it with a large lizard in its mouth, and it ran into the desert where i assumed it ate its lunch. They're beautiful birds, and great hunters!!

I hike up Griffith Park about 5 days a week, but I'm from Ohio and never saw rattlesnakes until now (I see them constantly). The more I learn about them, the less they seem like monsters and the more they seem like terrified food... food for coyotes, hawks, owls, other snakes, and even roadrunners. And they've only got one weapon (their bite), but it can only go up to 2/3 the length of their body, many animals have developed some immunity, and when they launch and miss, they're totally vulnerable. Not very high on the food chain after all.

Well...depends on how you use the term poison. In some fields a venom would not be called a poison. To them a poison is something that passes through the stomach wall. Toxins and venom are non poisons. Now in a more informal way, venom is a poison, as is toxins. In a non formal definition, poison covers anything that enters your system and can cause you harm. So, it depends on your perspective.

When the rattlesnake was tried for the part of the hunter, he couldn't build the complicated machinery. Wile. E. Coyote, however, stepped up, saying 'I'm a genius! I'll take the part!" :D

+Top Kat snakes are born with venom? usually they are more deadly due to the fact they release all their venom rather than a small amount

Smart move on the bird, didn’t want the snake to get in the bushes and then laid the final dagger. One less poisonous snake to worry.

Snakes have very limited energy, ambush predators that feed rarely and digest slowly. The mongoose, meerkats likewise tire them out first. Humans are actually the apex endurance predators. Early human hunting was primarily tracking, animal runs away startled, human follows. Humans walk efficiently, which is due to our massive glutes and bipedal movement. This is why humans need to wipe after the toilet actually, as our butts are overdeveloped. Human success isn't actually much to do with opposable thumbs or brains much (our brains developed due to tracking needs, deductive reasoning etc.) I think ostriches are the only things capable of out enduring humans on land. But we can eat their eggs easy. After we got the spear, well, predators are on the menu. Humans can actually do this snake baiting too with their hands, but not much eating on a snake to be worth developing the skill. I seem to remember people still did it, with defanged snakes to practice. Documentary in the 90s though, might not have been accurate, or my memory thereof.

Crazy! I have rattlesnakes around my house- often near the front door- and a pair of roadrunners that come for water. Maybe I'll be able to witness- and shoot a video- of something like this! Amazing. I wonder how they kill them. Looking it up right now... Thanks for the video.

The rattler doesn't have much endurance and caught out in the sun cannot control his body temperature. So he gets sluggish. The bird can keep at him until he wins. Notice how cautious the bird is in the beginning until the snake tires.

anni dee what state do you live? We don't road get runners where I live.. rattlesnakes yes... sadly I'm sure it keeps the population down having road runners around

Arizona, near the border of Ca Az & Nv. Saw 2 roadrunners yesterday on our front porch, next to 2 chuckwallas! It looked like the birds were fixing to possibly eat one or both the chuckwallas, so I scared them off 😐

anni dee I'm in Mohave Valley, many road runners around. don't feed them. human food lacks what they need and a bird with a full belly doesn't need to hunt. our maybe they are filling up in quail.
