Incredible cars, thanks for sharing the history of them!

I occasionally correspond with David McLain. In the Pail Whitman race he finished 10th overall. Porsche racing boss Huschke con Hanstein gave him a “Well done !” After the race. He raced it at Sebring in the 1965 race, the year of the great flood and, I believe, was the second fastest car in the rain behind an Austin Healey 3000 which was also on skinny tires. David told me that his mechanic thought it would be a good idea to remove the rain tray to save weight and help air flow. Bad idea, chief, when the rain hit because it kept shorting out the electrical system. After the 1965 race I wrote him as a 17-year old and he told me a bit about the car then. I think I still have the letter 56 years later. David went on to campaign a 914-6 in IMSA. He got tired of losing to the bigger engined 911s so he got Porsche - probably because he’s a lawyer - to homologate the 914-6 as a 2.5 liter car despite the fact that it never made one. As a former ‘64 SC owner I must complain that this video didn’t tell anything about the car as to why it was 200 pounds lighter that the regular 2,020 pounds or the power of the engines which were all dyno’ed and the best saved for racers.

You left us wanting details about the factory engine state of tune, transaxle, and suspension specs. One can save 100 lbs by deleting undercoating and the spare wheel. Even a smaller battery helps, especially if you go Li Ion.

Wish you'd have shown some close-ups of the cars, not just stood there in front of them

So I am guessing these are not 4 cam models. It seems counter-intuitive today but perhaps their was a rule BITD that made the buyers order pushrod engine models?
