Best, First Upgrade for Yokomo Yd-2Z RD1.0 RTR RC Drift Car (DP-302 v4 gyro | ReveD servo)

The brand new Yokomo YD-2Z RTR (www.avantlink.com/click.php?t...) is really a great offering for many folks looking to get started in RWD RC Drifting. It comes at a great price, from a known brand, and is 100% RTR straight out of the box.
However, there is a rather simple upgrade to the car that can really help to transform it. A new gyro and servo.
In this video, I install the Yokomo DP302-V4 gyro and the ReveD RS-ST servo to help transform this car into a better drifter.

Hi, thanks again for all these great videos you’re doing. I keep coming back and re-watching them to answer questions that I have about what I want to do to get into this hobby. Based on this video, I have a question for you. You are using this RTR kit as the foundation upon which to build. And then you’re doing these upgrades and as you say they make a significant difference. I think that’s great providing a budget avenue for somebody to get into the hobby and then upgrade. One thing that struck me as there’s probably a lot of people Who already are into RC cars. And they probably have their own radio already, maybe a spare receiver, sitting around, or maybe they even have batteries or they’ve watched this video of yours and they know right off the hop after buying the RTR they want to upgrade it immediately with a new Gyro, servo, etc. as you’re showing in your videos. So what I was wondering is whether this chassis in the RTR kit is the same as this base chassis - YOKOMO 1/10 YD-2Z RWD COMPETITION DRIFT CAR CHASSIS KIT EP. MODEL: DP-YD2Z SKU: 00111200. I see it on places like RC Mart for 260 USD. I am wondering about the comparative economics of buying it has the foundation, and then the exact electronics you want, assuming you’re doing these upgrades that you’re showing, as I said, if you already have your own radio, receiver, batteries… You know some other electronics you can Utilize. I was just curious how it would compare to basically avoid having leftover stock receiver, Gyro, servo sitting around…, and if it was indeed the same kit as the base.

Yes - the RTR is the same core chassis as the YD2Z. If folks have QUALITY components laying around, AND have folks near them who can help with setup - then a kit does make more sense. However, most times I find folks don't have one of those two prerequisites.

Thank you. Did the same upgrade recently and posted it on Reddit. A few redditors said the ball stud on the servo horn should be flipped to prevent binding? What do you think… mines is pointed towards the servo same as yours. I haven’t had any issues driving or drifting but I’m fairly new to the RC world so I’m not really sure

Hello fellow redditor!! I have left mine this way - servo horn ball stud pointing towards the servo - and have had ZERO issues. When I look at it, the angle of the linkage would be worse for me if I flipped the ball stud around. I am going to keep it as-is unless I move the servo.

GRAYSON’S drift car we got from Brent at adventure time RC is 4wd. It’s a hobby grade converted wal mart fast and the furious Supra.. what gyro would you recommend on a Budget Troy??

You don't need a gyro for 4WD. Just go out and have fun!

Any plans to ditch the stock shocks that came on the RTR and try a set of their oil filled shocks? I was watching another video from another KZbin person end. They mentioned there might be a big difference in driving for the Yokomo versus MST out of the box based on the fact that you’ll come out doesn’t have oil field shocks, and the MST does

I will eventually swap them, however these shocks are surprisingly good for what they are. Yes - oil filled shocks will be better, but not a game-changer. As an example, some folks are running almost zero oil in their shocks to get a lot of movement.

I recently got this yokomo as a roller and replaced just about everything but the receiver and transmitter. I had the same problem centering the steering but one thing I find strange is the transmitter beeps continuously when I turn it on. I flipped through the manuals and there’s nothing I can find. I’m tried googling reasons my it starts beeping as soon as I turn it on but nothing. Any help or suggestions aside from replacing the transmitter? (will be replacing it eventually) I really appreciate it, thank you

Controller beaping should be low voltage - needs new batteries in it. But - I might be mis-remembering.

Hi, I don't understand the end point adjustment on the Gyro... how is that different to the EPA on my (Sanwa) radio?

The servo is getting inputs from two different sources (controller and gyro). You MUST set the end points via the gyro.

Im having trouble with my dp 302 v4. When i dont have it plugged in my wheel go left and right fully no problem when i plug in the gyro the left goes full lock but going right only goes about 70 percent. Servo injora 14KG digital servo. Also does it matter how the gyro is mounted? I have it mounted kind of slanted not flat

1) Check that the steering trim is centered on the controller, or as close to it as you can. This may mean changing the length of steering linkage to help center the steering. I have my steering trim at zero, and just lengthen/shorten the linkage to ensure the wheels are pointed straight. 2) Reset your steering endpoints in the gyro itself. 3) Yes - you want your gyro mounted FLAT and on a SOLID surface.

Waiting on mine to come in the maail today. I have a Yeah Racing Hackgbar to paid with it but in my opinion its too slow. I also have a yokomo servo but its SLOW and i dont have a program card. I ended up going back to the stock mst servo and i have no idea what im doing wrong

Gyros don't make any noise - but that ReveD servo does get loud.

@@RoadsideRCI just got my v4 gyro and my RSST servo how did you wire it up since the V4 does not have an input to plug anything to it and the RSST only has one plug going out.

Update: I figured it out except now the old screw that was from the old servo that goes on the horn does not fit on the new rev DRSST server. Anyway, I can get one that fits?

@sharptechnique7883 Did the new servo not come with a screw? They typically are all the same...and all come with one. I have a box of spare screws I keep around for just this issue. Perhaps ask around near you to see if anyone has one.

I do prefer the Futaba gyro to the Yokomo - 100%. But, I was trying to keep the factory controller - for now - so the Yokomo is easier to use with that configuration.
