We’re at a sad time to be car guy. I was reading the comment section of this video and the people arguing that automatics are better and people don’t want manuals anymore just don’t understand the engagement you get even if your car is technically slower than the automatic version . I own a 2015 golf TDI in 6mt, I wouldn’t have bought the car in dct just because they’re dull and lifeless. Sure it’s faster, sure it’s easier in traffic, but you don’t feel as connected and the clutch isn’t that bad

That's always been the case. The majority of cars have always been automatic. Why? Manual takes a bit more work to drive, though not difficult. People just want easy. Put in drive and go. No one is going to really argue that manual is more fun and engaging. It is.

@@timvibes it wasn’t always the case that cars came in bottom barrel specs with a manual and mid tier and top tier came with autos. They’ve literally been doing this as a middle finger to us saying see see no one will buy these…. Well yeah no heated seats, no apple carplay, no android auto, a manual that feels like crap with rev hang because the epa says they have to. It’s all a game at the end of the day. And it’s sad because people point at ultra exotics and super cars as a reason to not have a manual… I’ll never own one and neither will they but hey justify it some how. It’s just like how they stole modern diesels from us. We could have them but we were told no.

I had a guy ask me at work the other day “why would anyone buy a manual when modern automatics are faster” knowing I drive a manual car. I had been waiting for someone to say this to me so I responded “It is more fun to drive a manual once you know what you are doing because of the driver feedback you get from the car and the fact you are in complete control of the RPM range”. Unfortunately ignorant people will always hate on what they don’t understand.

@@onecleangti As an owner of 3 manual trans cars and one auto, I agree. However, I bought an auto trans crossover as I feel I needed something bigly enough to carry my mowers and snow blowers. I have always had 1 auto vehicle for those times when old knees just aren't feeling a manual. As much as I love and enjoy my manual trans cars, as I get older, there are times where I just cannot drive them and enjoy the experience. I hate that and hope that the day never comes where that situation is permanent, but I also get where others who are not enthusiasts and only have one car, just go for the auto. The Toyota D-4S engines are better than either Honda or Mazda engines simply by virtue of using both direct + port injection together interchangeably. That offers several operating advantages over a 100% direct injection engine & no worry of the carbon deposit buildup that 100% direct injection bring because the cleaning additives in top tier fuels cannot physically hit a good portion of what they need to in order to prevent it (unlike with port-injection).

I love driving but have never really learned to drive a manual. Honestly I have fun enough in a modern automatic so I do not see a reason to try one other than some friends telling me it's more "engaging". Also, there is always the likelihood of breaking something with a mis-shift in a manual which could cost thousands to fix. I just recently traded my 2015 mustang gt with 114000 miles on it for a new Civic Touring hybrid and am enjoying it a lot. I needed a family car since I have twin 7 year olds and it got tiring constantly moving the seats back and forth in the mustang so its nice having something with 4 doors. The acceleration is instantaneous and smooth and when I hop into our f150 it feels weird going back to a gas motor.

Never mind "Engaging", manuals are 5x more fun. The likelihood of you breaking something while mis-shifting during your entire lifetime is tiny, because you probably aren't redlining your car more than five times a a good week, let alone drag racing. That said, these modern auto boxes are light-years ahead of the stuff we got up to the 90's - late 2000's.

But it isn't a small, or compact, car. It is marketed at that niche, but it is midsize; almost the exact same size (passenger volume 99.0 ft^3) as a Camry (99.9 ft^3, and same cargo space). Both fall right in the middle of the EPA's midsize category, and the quicker Civic gets better mileage. It isn't a "serial-parallel"[1] hybrid system, that's Toyota. They use both modes at the same time. Honda switches between a pure serial system most of the time, and a pure parallel system for cruising at highway speeds. +++++ [1] "Series" is a noun and "serial" is its adjective form. So when the engine and motors are configures is series (noun), it makes a serial (adjective) hybrid.

Yeah, it's a proper car. In the UK the vehicle is rated to tow 600kg/1300 Ibs unbraked and 750kg/1650 Ibs braked; Honda sells a 13 point wiring harness over there. I'd bet the 232Ib/ft series hybrid electric drive powertrain would handle a 4 pin 450Ib 4x7 utility trailer with 750Ibs worth of shit.

Even if the hybrid did exist back when I got my 2023 Si in December 2022. I still wouldn't buy the Civic Hyrbid because of the battery replacement alone. How much is it to buy and install a new replacement battery for the Civic Hybrid? All that gas money saved going right back to that vehicle's battery or there's possibility of putting money down for a new hybrid. I mention that last part because why would I want to keep a partial electric driven vehicle longer than when I need to replace the battery? Where in the newer hybrid will be even more efficient than the current Civic Hybrid. Also, the electrical components of the current hybrid might begin to wear down and that might be more expensive to replace than just buying a newer hybrid. At least with the Si I have it's a oh no a head gasket issue that can pop up at any moment! Which can be counter acted with earlier maintenance intervals. @billwylde4846 Bolts to the chassis underneath the rear seat bench, so removal is a snap. So easy DIY or minimal hours in the shop. Peeking over on an oem retailer, the battery retails for $~2800. Honda warranties the thing for 100,000 miles so let's be mean and assume it failed at 100,001 So an SI gets 31MPG combined to hybrids 49. SI also recommends premium. So in cali (where i live) 91 runs $4.8 a gallon and 87 (which hybrid runs on) is $4.4 So Hybrid over 100k miles runs you $8,979 where's SI on 91 comes in at $15,483. So even assuming the battery fails the mile after it runs out of warranty, you've saved $6500 in gas. That's more than enough for the battery, shop time, and a rental with savings left over to boot i reckon. Worth it if you ask me.

I don’t think people really understand. Yes, the numbers are the same between the hybrid and the SI. The only reason you would pick the SI if you want to drive a manual and you cannot afford a type bar. That is the only reason you picked the SI you picked the hybrid if you don’t wanna drive manual if you want to save a lot of fucking gas and if you just wanna smooth comfortable ride, those are the two differences. I don’t understand why people wanna say it’s quicker than the SI people bitched about a hybrid and now it’s back and everyone wants to dis SI come on guys. The SI is what it is for a reason the hybrid is what it is for a reason just because the hybrid is quicker than the SI and the numbers are the same doesn’t mean a damn fucking thing it really doesn’tat the end of the day. The SI is still the SI in the hybrid to hybrid. They have different purposes, regardless of one beach, the other.

What a f'ing joke. Does it just make stupid gearshift noises through the speakers while interrupting the power output of the electric motor to make it feel like it's shifting? That has to be one of the worst features I've ever seen in a Honda, it's really just insulting.
@RaY_77W
@RaY_77W 17 күн бұрын
You can override this by brake torque launching in sport mode, not that crazy. It’s an awesome feature, especially when someone who hates the way a CVT transmission feels and sounds wants to drive something like this. This car essentially has no transmission although they call it a ‘e-CVT’ for simplicity sake, it’s not a cvt at all. Anyways, this allows Honda to simulate some pretty convincing automatic transmission shifts. As I said, if you don’t like it, and you want to squeeze every ounce of power out of this thing, just brake torque it in sport mode and it will deliver all the power without the simulated shifts.

From a design standpoint, the "eCVT" used in a lot of hybrids is nothing like the crappy belt/chain CVT's used in 100% ICE vehicles. It's far more reliable/durable, as the Toyota Prius & other eCVT vehicles have proven for several decades now.

Here’s the thing. I’ve driven nothing but manuals my whole life. Yes, they’re fun. However… I got the same giddiness my childhood self got perfecting a rally downshift when I drove my older sister’s DCT Kia seltos and banged out the shifting. I’ve driven early Paddle shifters and felt… meh about it. So I am open to a great DCT, and mechanically too… it’s great for me as a tech. Manual gearbox… but electronic coupling that removes the shifter cables. I will be sad when time comes for the gearbox, but hey ho, it’s not all doom and gloom. It just needs a proper lightweight affordable 2-3 door platform to be respected. And before you think I drove lack lustre manual models with no power or personality. I own a AWD 400whp C30 T5, the M66 is as beautiful as a Honda shifter, but with the weight of a European design. So I do have some credit to me.

There's two distinct sport sedan buyers: those who are competitive, data-driven drivers that need to have the quickest transmission for the track they'll never drive on, and those who buy manuals because they're more fun. The automatic drivers are bragging to the manual drivers while the manual drivers just don't care. This is why the Elantra N is offered in both 6-speed and DCT. Smart if you ask me. I agree though, cars like the new Prelude need a new way to be engaging if they want to be successful.
@arctictruck10
@arctictruck10 18 күн бұрын
@RoadsUntraveled so you're saying people buy a manual CTR just to drive on the streets and not the track? VW is dropping the manual this year globally, and the Golf R gaps a manual fwd Elantra and the automatic Elantra gaps the manual. You saying a manual is more fun or engaging is like you should take pot your power windows dor manual cranks for the engagement. Stop it with the manual is more fun and use logic over emotion. There is a reason why car manufacturers spent millions to develop the automatic transmission in Lamborghini Ferrari, Nissan GTR, PDK Porsche. You don't see manuals in professional racing or rally cars.

@@arctictruck10we get it your “that guy” but at the end of the day regular people that go to there regular jobs just want to have a little fun. @deucedvx at the end of the day it's night, and nobody wants to be clutching in bumper to bumper traffic for a ten mile or more commute and I'm not paying my hard earned money for that.
