Very good video Tony, with practical and simple info about how to get from Lisbon to Porto, excellent. You´ve only missed that Porto has a very good Metro system that you can take directly outside Campanhã train station at...Campanhã Metro station !! The Metro 9 lines take you directly downtown and around the city metropolitan area including the Porto international airport, the seaside areas of Porto and Matosinhos, etc, and even to the resort nearby cities of Vila do Conde an Povoa Varzim. Important to mention on a future video. Anyway and again you´re doing a great job, keep on.

All your Lisbon and Porto videos are SO helpful! Thank you. I have a question regarding luggage size for the overhead storage on the InterCity trains. We will be traveling with three suitcases, one of which is large and doesn't fit into an airplane overhead storage. Is there size limits on the trains for luggage storage? If a suitcase doesn't fit overhead (and clearly it won't fit under the seat) is there additional space somewhere in the carriage? Thanks in advance for any guidance. (We looked at the FAQs on the Comboios de Portugal website but couldn't find an answer to this specific question.)
@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal10 ай бұрын
Hi Elle, you should check the CP baggage rules here: www.cp.pt/passageiros/en/how-to-travel/Useful-information/luggage-transport There is room for large suitcases on one end of the carriages, but on the fast trains you are only allowed to board with just the one piece, any additional piece of luggage is considered as excess baggage. Hola Tony, Thanks for all the great videos! CP ticket from Sao Bento, Porto to Apolonia, Lisbon allows 7 minutes for a transfer at Campanha Station from urbano to IC (urbano from Sao Bento-Campanha, then IC from Campanha-Apolonia). Hi, you will arrive at Campanhã station and look in the panels for the platform where the train to Lisbon depart. Then walk to that platform, the station is very small. To me the best side is the right side because if you go from Lisbon to Porto, you going to have a great view from the Tagus river alongside From Lisbon to almost Santarém. My company have branches in Porto and in Lisbon and because work they send me lots of times to Porto and they pay me the train ticket (they refuse to buy the bus ticket, because they want to be lower carbon emissions), and they refuse we use the company car (it's impossible because is a Renault zoe electric and we need to recharge lots of times to make the trip) and i travel in AP ( AlfaPendular the train that reach 220km/h) and i know well the views and the right side is the best between Lisbon and Porto and the left side if you go from Porto to Lisbon. Sorry my broken english.

Hi Tony, thank you for the fantastic videos! We are arriving in Lisbon on Nov 5/23 and need to take a train to Porto that day. We will return to Lisbon on the 9th for the rest of our trip. On CP website I tried to purchase from Oriente (since close to airport) to Campanha and then for return from Campanha to Santa Apolonia as our rental is downtown Lisbon but cannot on the site. Is it best to buy the tickets at Oriente when we arrive and have the return trip specified to Santa Apolonia? Do you recommend buying tickets day of? Thanks in advance! -David
@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Жыл бұрын
Hi David, yes, you are unlikely to be able to buy an open jaw ticket at CP website. @@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugali actually watched that video for all your tips, so thank you for that. unfortunately that’s the only way we could have scheduled our trip because we are going to porto first and when we head back to Lisbon to catch our flight, we wanted to see sintra. is there no convenient way to travel from porto to sintra?
@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Жыл бұрын
@@allanzhou5959 you have to return to Lisbon and from Lisbon go to Sintra. No direct travel from Porto to Sintra.

It's easy you come out of train in Lisbon Oriente and catch a train in that same station but in different platform (that start there and go to Sintra ( the stations are by memory, Oriente - Braço de Prata - RomaAreeiro - Entrecampos - Sete Rios - Sta Cruz Damaia, and more 12 stations) it take 50 minutes from Oriente to Sintra. It's suburban train.

You can. You will probably pay the full fare and there is the risk of finding the train you are interested sold out. But you can.

We are considering staying at the Editory at Santa Apolonia Station to make the train departure more convenient. Thoughts?

Very convenient for the train indeed, but the train station is near the centre so if you stayed elsewhere it wouldn't be a disaster.

Hello Tony, Love your Videos!! just wanted to find out if there is any issues if we want to travel to Porto from Lisbon-Entrecampos? it should be the same as going from Santa Apolonia correct? our hotel is in the north of Lisbon and Entrecampos Station is close to our hotel. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks much. Zac.

Hi Tony, Obrigado pela sua resposta. I watched the video from the link above. Great Video!!! I learned from your video that the train from Vigo to Porto is Celta comboy or Celta train, an international train operated by CP. Thank you. I learned as well from your video that there is Flixbus company that has a route that starts from Coruña in Galicia and passes through Santiago de Compostela, Vigo, Braga, and arrives at Porto. My itinerary will be from Santiago de Compostela to Lisbon. It looks like I have to take three trains: Santiago de Compostela to Vigo, Vigo to Porto, and Porto to Lisbon. I would like to know if I can bring my bike inside the train/bus. Do I need to have a bike bag in order to travel in the train/bus? I believe I can travel from Santiago de Compostela to Vigo by train. Obrigado!!!

@@Rogerio1998 hi Rogério, as there are several train companies involved you would have to check the rules with each one of them, as we haven't got any experience on the topic. We know some allowances are made for people doing the Camino and traveling with a bike, but would not want to just make up the rules for you. You could also travel direct by bus with Alsa.

Is it possible to buy physical tickets for trains in Porto directly at the train station without having to sign up for an account with the comboios service? Or is it necessary to go to the website/app and buy an e ticket to be able to board the train?

You should be able to, you will pay the full price and might not find seats for the train you want.

Hi Tony, quick question please....i have tried to look everywhere for the exact refund rules on cancellation of a Full Fare Comboios de Portugal ticket - Lisbon to Porto. On the CP website, it simply says its refundable upto 15 mins prior to train departure. On the Omio website, i found a reference of 3 years ago that they would deduct 4 Euros. Would you by any chance know the refund rules today? Many thanks, Monisha

Hi, here's the refund information: www.cp.pt/passageiros/en/how-to-travel/Useful-information/refunds

Thanks Tony, I did read this. Says free refund, so it probably means 100% refund 15 mins before train departure?That's what I wanted to re-confirm with you as it does not give a exact number and we are so used to seeing 70% refund, etc! Also, maybe i couldnt believe it was FREE until 15 mins before train departure! 😂 Thanks very much again!

I’m going to Portugal in a couple of days for a cruise from Lisbon to Barcelona. I decided to stay a few days in Porto beforehand and my Airbnb is near São Bento Station. Google maps keeps telling me I have to transfer at Campanha. The AP was only 6€ more than the IC when I looked.
@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Жыл бұрын
Bought in advance, the AP is just slightly more expensive than the IC. The issue of the transfer is explained in the video.

@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Well it is was confusing because the station didn’t say Porto and when I asked a ticket person he said I had to get on a train that said Guimaraes. The way back is smoother as while writing this I’m on an AP train which is nicer than the IC one. I also did buy a ticket for the way back ahead of time unlike for the way there.

@@arturjcrebelo3275 last time we took the bus, the toilet wasn't working. The bus left 40 minutes late so we were not inclined to add a further delay to the trip by requesting an unplanned stop.
