I really enjoyed this video! It reminded me so much of Virginia. I lived about an hour away from Roanoke in Lynchburg. Lynchburg is called the hill city and this town reminded me of that. We went to Roanoke often so this brought back good memories. That pink house was a ‘statement’. The owners want to say ‘I got it going on”, 😆. When I first saw that service station in the opening shot, it looked like a giant marshmallow lol.

If you are ever in Roanoke again I’d love to explain some of the place for you. There is a lot of history in this city. There is actually a train train on one of the first roads you were on and an old train track on several of the older roads.

Definitely an old railroad town. CSX still runs through Lagrange, Ga then into Roanoke , Wadley, Cragford, up to Lineville, on to Talladega and into Birmingham. Fun fact, the old depot that you saw in Wadley had a twin in Roanoke, but it burned down.

The run down areas are the old mill village. When Handley Mills was in operation, many of the workers lived in the area. The mill closed years ago and the building has since burned.

I've always been puzzled and wondered why houses can be all neglected and boarded up, poverty and crime, then on the next block an immaculate church with a new extension. Shouldn't we be more concerned about housing than worship?
