I currently live in Roanoke, nice area. Originally from Buffalo. Great summers, rough winters. Spent 27 years in Florida. Oppresive heat and humidity 🥵 And getting way too busy and way too many trashy people 👎 Roanoke is a nice middle ground. Not super busy. Cold winter Nov-Feb without dealing with winter driving. Moderate humidity even in summer (compared to Florida). Lots of sunny days without the intensity of the sun in Florida. Did I mention that I don’t like Florida? 😆

Roanoke is a nice small city, I like how it's very close to the Blue Ridge Mountains. I am also from Upstate NY and got sick of the harsh winters. I agree Florida gets way too hot, and I like a mild 4 seasons, so that would not be a permanent place for me either.

Yrs ago I lived in Buffao (born there) Carolina St between Busti & Seventh. Live in Binghamton NY now for the last 47 yrs. Having thoughts of moving to Roanoke this Fall.

@@jeffreybennett8893 Roanoke will be somewhat similar to Binghamton - hilly, landlocked, population-wise too. Kinda isolated as it’s 3 hours from Charlotte, Raleigh, and Richmond, and about 4 hours from DC. The regional airport has some direct flights via Allegiant, and American Airlines which hubs in Charlotte to get you anywhere you want to go.

Head to head, Roanoke is a much better city and place to live in my opinion. There is much more to offer and do, with "bigger" city amenities.
