What a happy song and a wonderful piece of Americana. And what a great piano sound! So full and rich.

I'm a big Jolson fan and plonk away doing some of his songs with my guitar. The total transformation of my voice and energy when I sang along to that great piano sound, took me by surprise! I definitely think we are missing a lot of real music sounds in this technological age. No michrophones! Thanks!

Love the rendition, and I can imagine people gathered 'round, watching the lyrics go by, and singing along! (Also, having watched a piano roll scrolling down for three minutes, my eyes are tricking me into thinking that the images and words on my screen are rising, lol!)

Set the playback speed at .75.. makes for a much more singable song..

@jockhamish This is another reason why the old Vocalstyle rolls are great. If you follow the breath and phrase markings properly, you learn how to sing some of these great old songs of yesteryear (that, plus of course listening to a lot of old recordings of singers to get styling down).

Can you tell me what camera you used in this video? The sound quality is superb and I also would like to know how you light the piano roll, it makes the video look so great!

The tempo feels like it got faster on toward the end! Love this style very much... Some songs, the player piano roll is the vest version!

This is probably self-evident to people who know more about piano playing than I do, but is this a single take or did he play a second-hander over the first too make it a four-hand rendition? Anyone?

+jim02026 Thank you! Really interesting and informative. But part of me wishes I could still believe some musical genius was knocking these out in real time. Oh, well, I was lucky enough to know a woman who could produce a reasonable facsimile of any of these rolls. (A ragtime pianist -- woman -- who played in Teddy Roosevelt's favorite restaurant, The Little Hungary, at the age of 15 and in speakeasies all through the 20's and 30's. Knowing her was one of the highlights of my life. Not an original thought, I know, but she always said: "Knowing what you want to do from the very beginning and being able to do it" was the greatest gift imaginable. )

I have an old Al Jolson record book, almost perfict condition, and on the racord of this, the song's name is "Golden Gate". I think. Maybe that's a differant song. But to me, this sounds a lot like it... I'll have to listen to the record again. XD Just to see if it's the game song. lol. :) Justin Beiber=2-4 notes, 1 (real) word. "Baby" VS. Any older music=about 40 or more notes, at least 10 words, and, completely musical in every way. Rap=poor grammar & talking with no music.
