Here's my step by step method of roasting a turkey to perfection. Juicy and tender every time! You'll need an electric roaster. I use the Outer 22 quart. You'll also need an instant read meat thermometer.

Thanks for this video! It’s my first time cooking turkey in one and I wanted a good instructional video. Glad I found yours! Looks great! I’m using some tonys injectable marinade to season and some butter. Hoping it turns out well. We did smaller birds this year so doing two in the roaster. Excited to try this out! 😊

I like the idea of a roaster. Such a great idea. I usually brine my turkey/chicken. May try this method. Thanks for the tip.

You're very good at making videos! I'm going to subscribe - hoping you'll make more soon. Homesteaders have such wonderful skills to share that the rest of us could use right now...especially those involving food preparation and preservation. Thanks! I've been cooking turkeys for years, but this is the first in my brand new roaster oven.

How did you get the roasting pan out of the roaster without burning yourself? My roaster doesn't have enough edge sticking up from the roaster to grab safety.?

Your Bird looks so delicious honey and you prepared and cooked it so professionally….actually better than a tv Chef!! And here are everyone who owns an Electric Turkey oven complaining that they can’t get their Bird to Brown…..’Well Honey, you done it” I own a Nesco 18 quart Electric Turkey Oven and I can’t wait to do what you did and become a Successful Bird Browning Chef, lol, lol….I think because you started the Temperature at the highest temperature 450 df for 30 minutes with lid on, did the trick….to Brown it….please any suggestions would be appreciated….your oven with the exception of being an Oster Oven and mine a Nesco Oven 18 quart and not 22 quarts is the only difference…..thanks for the well done Video!!❤

I am so glad I found this video! I bought an electric roaster- possibly the exact same one you used- and will use it for Christmas! Do you know approximately how many pounds your turkey was, and how long it took? I am going to be doing an 18 lb turkey but I will also be stuffing it.... I am worried about the timing using the roaster, that it will be finished way too early. but you did say that you could leave it in the roaster, turned off, for a couple of hours with no real issues? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Awesome! I’ve roasted anywhere from 15-33 pound birds in this roaster. I never stuff my birds so I can speak to that aspect. A meat thermometer is key! Cook until it’s 165 degrees in the leg-thigh meat. I’ve let mine rest in the roaster for up to a couple of hours and it was still piping hot and perfect. Let me know how it goes.

I’ve been cooking holiday turkeys since I was 20 years old. I’m now 59 years young. I was shown by my mother to start your turkey at 250 degrees for one hour, then bring the temperature to 350 for the remaining time. Apparently, by starting at 250 it stops the leg skin from shrinking back. I’m using a roaster this year and I’m asking , how can I get the top skin crispy?
@THEFOURTEENACRES2 жыл бұрын
The high heat at the beginning actually helps the skin brown

Follow same cooking directions for smaller turkey (18-25 lbs)? I realize my thermometer may register oneness earlier if a smaller bird. But still cook at 450 for 1/2 hour and put down to 350 degrees until bird registers 165?
@THEFOURTEENACRES2 жыл бұрын
Yes. And then make sure to let it rest at least 30 minutes before carving

Lol I did same with my Cornish cross I let mine the second time sir in a cooler (I process mine all by myself with help from auto plucker so only do 5 every other day till all 30 processed ) put them in cooler cover with ice and keep adding ice till they have sat for over 24 hrs made a world of difference no more tough chicken 😁 I will be raising turkeys for first time 2022 🤞 I don’t have a thermometer 😩 hope it looks as beautiful as yours when done using same roaster at 350 for 4 hrs

Thanks. I always was told 165° in breast and around 175° for leg/thigh?
@THEFOURTEENACRES2 жыл бұрын
According to the USDA it’s 165 for all poultry www.fsis.usda.gov/food-safety/safe-food-handling-and-preparation/food-safety-basics/safe-temperature-chart
@Kimmie_FАй бұрын
@@THEFOURTEENACRES The safe zone is 165°, but for thigh/leg meat 175° helps break down the collagen in the meat and makes it more tender.

How much of each seasoning for the seasoned butter?

Really just a matter of preference. And it depends on the size of your bird. I use several tablespoons. And I make sure the entire bird is covered thoroughly.

Your turkey came out absolutely beautiful. I've had a roaster for some time and my turkey never looked like this. I was doing the opposite and letting it cook slowly first then turning it higher. I also covered it with foil. I'm going to do your way today. I love the way you carved it also, wish you showed how you first cut it in half when you separated the breast. I have to invest in one of those electric carving knives. Where did you get you thermometer from? Thank you so much for this video.
@THEFOURTEENACRES3 жыл бұрын
You’re so welcome. You can get the digital thermometer and the electric knife on Amazon. I’ve been cooking them this way for years and they come out great every time.

Does this work with an injected turkey I'm doing Thanksgiving this year at my house and they have a 22qt roaster at Walmart for $50 I've roasted smaller chickens with a smaller roaster before but never tried an injected bird just wondering should I go through with it or just use the oven because I re inject every 30-45 min to max juicyness
@THEFOURTEENACRES2 жыл бұрын
The roaster has a self basting lid. I can’t imagine you needing to inject the bird more than once. The key is closely monitoring the internal temperature. Injected and brined birds have a tendency to cook more quickly so temp is key for having a juicy bird. And don’t forget to let it rest

@@THEFOURTEENACRES ok, thx. In the video it looks like you put it breast side down so I thought maybe you were browning it before putting it breast up. I have this exact same roaster but I’ve never used it to cook a turkey. I think I’ll try it this year 👍🏼 Merry Christmas from Washington State 🤣🍗❣️

One Thanksgiving the family was scheduled to come to my house for dinner only for me to discover that morning that my oven had died! I was in a panic! My mother said she would get out her roaster and send my father over with it! Day saved? Well, while in the end I had to say it was my juiciest bird ever, there was just one issue! I had never used one before in my life! I set it on the kitchen floor near the outlet and got it started! Not wanting to disturb the cooking I let it cook while I prepared other sides for the dinner. Well the house filled with all the great smells of the day and we were all drooling! I decide to check the temperature of the bird so I could figure when to start gravy! I lifted the cover and looked down and let out a cry that had everyone rush into the room. What I was looking at I described as it looked like someone dropped a hand grenade in the pot! There sat the carcass of the bird and everything else was swimming in liquid at the bottom of the pot! The turkey was virtually steamed! Not having used one before, I knew nothing about the vents on the lid and the need to use them to regulate cooking. Juiciest bird ever but a challenge to make gravy as everything had to be strained out! Definitely not the picture perfect turkey that year! No platter need , just large bowl! Lol! Read the instructions! (I didn’t have any!)

Not everyone needs lots of seasoning. Some people enjoy the taste of the meat, broth has lots of flavor in it and electric roasters do the basting.
