I’m a widow living alone. After my husband died last year, I sold our 3,000 sq ft home of 40 years and did some drastic downsizing. I now live in a senior resort community near the beach with many amenities. I’m sure my husband would be pleased that I am being taken care of in a secure environment. One of the items I had to let go of was a similar oven that you unboxed. It reminds me of all our big family parties and how useful it was. 💕

I resisted buying a roaster for almost fifty years. My mother-in-law used to produce the most gawd-awful turkeys every Thanksgiving with hers. It might have been because they started it in the Nesco the night before and baked the poor thing to death. When I learned how to can my own broth last year, a roaster was my second purchase, after the canner. It also made quick work of my tomatoes this fall. Roasters are amazing tools when used for good and not evil (over done turkeys)!

It’s got real life with the real estate decisions, drama with the opening of the damaged box and the anxiety over whether the roaster will heat up, concern over whether it will do a satisfactory job with an unfamiliar recipe, and the thrill of victory when it’s successful!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🤩

I love my Nesco roasters- a small one and one the size of yours. I do my turkey that way each year. I follow the Nesco directions, except, I put the turkey in a disposable aluminum roasting pan inside the Nesco. Works wonderfully, and the cleanup is a breeze. I do the same in the small Nesco cooker to make our Christmas ham. Literally, effortless cleanup.

i use my 28 qt Hamilton Beach roaster for everything! You can cook your roast/chicken, potatoes & veggies, and a cake for desert all at the same time. I waterbath pints in it, by covering jars, cranking up to 400* and bringing it to boil. Generally I can then slowly turn down to 350* to maintain the boil. I use it for broths, tomato sauce, apple sauce and apple butter, browning large quantities of meat or hamburger, carmelized onions, caramel sauce, and so many other goodies. Between the roaster and airfryer, I rarely use my oven. You will absolutely love this gadget. Try everything in the recipe portion of your manual, to learn how to use it for baking.

Wow--thank you for all those ideas. I had not thought of water bath canning, but it would certainly work for that so long as the jars are covered with water.

My family has always used a roaster oven to cook holiday turkey or ham since I can remember (hint that is since the sixties). This was because we have a large family and it frees up the oven for all the side dishes. Back then it was on a stand so you did not have to use up your counter space. We even use ours for our large canning projects. It is just so versatile when cooking many large patches of food.

From pizza to muffins to cakes to chickens and roasts, grilles veggies, roasted potatoes. It's been a god sent. Just a note...as you know be careful with your oil bottle. It should never touch your silicon brush. You're contaminating the oil content with poultry juices. 😉

Many blessings to you in your new old home!😁❤️ And I’m sure you’ll enjoy using your roaster for many years, and many holidays. I’ve never been fortunate enough to have two ovens; in fact, my current (and final, I hope) home has a rather small kitchen, which has been a challenge. My son bought me the very same kind of roaster a couple years ago because he thought it might be a help to me, and I’ve loved it. It made the holidays much easier, and I’ve been happy to use it to roast my “extra” turkeys and hams (bought while the prices were cheap during the holiday season), and have also used it to cook broth and meat for canning, applesauce for canning, and two or three beef roasts at a time for, yes, canning. Heh.

Im planning to try to lightly brush those edges with Plastidip.... Congrats on your new gadget!!!... Mine came packed similar to yours, but each piece was in a factory sealed plastic bag. They make bags to line your roaster, like crock pot liners. Makes clean up a breeze! Do put about a quart of water between the removable pan and roaster to keep precooked things warm without burning, like pasta or cabbage rolls. In Pa, most wedding food tables have these lined up with all kinds of goodies inside. I have used mine to season cast iron. Outside it keep the smell of seasoning cast iron out of our house. I have baked bread and pies in it. I have used it many times on our screened in porch or in the garage to keep the heat outside for long-cook things such as bone broth and turkeys! It is actually called a roaster “oven”! Enjoy!

Great buy Pam & Jim and a great vid, again. Thx for doing this and sharing. 👍👍👍👍👍 I've had mine for over 15 yrs and have cooked everything in it from baked goods to bread, to meat, to casseroles, to boiled eggs (more correctly they are baked eggs in their shell - the eggs don't explode and you can do dozens at a time). It can be used as a proofing cabinet for raising your bread dough (bowl and all). Think of it as an oven, a casserole dish, a roaster, a crock pot (it will cook low and slow), . . . I recommend getting an oven thermometer to record the temperature at each setting on the dial so you know what temp you will be cooking at, for each setting on the dial. Mine is 25 F under for each setting. I did a setting test on another one for a friend of mine. Hers was under by almost 50 F at the low end and closer to 20 F under at the higher temp settings. Neither my roaster nor hers could reach 450 F, the highest setting. I also believe the heating element is around the side of the pan, like a crock pot, and not on the bottom of the pan. The only thing they can't do is Pressure cook and maybe deep fry (I'm not willing to try it for safety reasons but it probably could.) Mine has the sharp, rough edges like Pam's but a metal file will fix that, if you so desire.

I bought a slightly used Oster oven roaster off of Facebook market place for a great price. My idea is to use it to make a lot of turkey bone broth for soups and stews. My favorite way to cook meats in the fall and winter is to use my various sizes of Römertopf clay bakers to cook both my turkey and a roast at the same time. They work fantastically, making the turkey fall off the bone juicy. My roasts come out nicely crusted and tender. I've use a Römertopf for over 40 years, when I was given one as a bride by my Aunt. I recently inherited my parent's Römertopf, it was much used and loved.

I have one almost exactly like that. Even though I have 2 ovens I decided to get it one year when I was doing a huge Thanksgiving dinner for a lot of relatives. One thing I have used it for is for baking a lot of garden squash in the fall so that I could freeze the cooked squash. I used it instead of the oven because I could steam it. I have also cooked a whole 5 or 8 pound package of frozen chicken which I shredded and froze in packages for casseroles.

When grandma replaced her Nesco roaster she gave me her old one. I remember the old one from about when I was 5. So it's easily 70 years old. And yes it still works .I live in Wisconsin close enough to Two Rivers where Nesco is made I drove to the factory to purchase a newer one.I also have the 3 pans which are great. Roasters like this usually only heat from the sides so be careful of items touching the sides. For canning or freezing turkey I do 8 piece cut and use the pressure cooker. Half a turkey in about 30 min.

Thank you for sharing information on the Hamilton Beach roaster , we have teenagers who will be wanting to use the roaster too and with the lid being sharp on the underneath rim wouldn't be a good idea for us to purchase.. we as adults wife and I would remember However our teenage daughters would not . Our twin Teenage girls get silly and playful together every time they're cooking together in the kitchen . Turkey looks amazing we will be trying this recipe for our Christmas turkey We really appreciate your channel Always learning something new.

As always, thank you for your advice and education. I recently discovered that a turkey roaster can also be used to make large batches of chili, soup, stew, sauces, or any other liquid dish. Yes, we're talking LARGE batch here, but who wouldn't want to make and store their own tomato sauce for a whole year? My only reference is the YT channel, Becomingafarmgirl, who lots of videos on how to use a turkey roaster all year long. Thanks again!

I bought a 22qt roaster about 4 months ago and I love it. I use mine mostly for making large batches of stock, soups, pasta sauce, fruit butters, and anything else I would use a large pot for. Basically, I can fill and can more jars at one time....less batches, less time, less cleanup, and it frees up room on my stove for processing. I have room to water bath and pressure can at the same time.

I use almost the exact same mixture of spices when I make a turkey but I put mine in a turkey bag overnight for the spices to brine it. Your turkey looks delicious!

Congratulations on the purchase of your new "oven" ! I have one that a friend gave me when she was downsizing. It has a 3-compartment tray that can be used for cooking/warming other dishes. I've never baked in it, but may have to try that!

I have 2 Westinghouse roasters/ovens from the ‘50’s, pink & blue. I love them so, but rarely use them anymore. But they do have indicator lights! 😅

I too miss my double oven. We now roast my turkey the day before, slice it up and cover it in broth to store in the refrigerator. The turkey soaks up broth and stays so moist and all we do is reheat it on Thanksgiving day. So many people have done it like this after tasting how moist the turkey is and also you don't have the big mess to clean up and can spend time visiting with family instead. My husband also smokes a turkey the day before and again, do the same thing. I have a smaller Nesco roaster and use that to reheat the smoked turkey. My oven is freed up for the stuffing and other fixings.

My roaster oven has an extra piece that has 3 compartments so that you can keep extra things like mashed potatoes, gravy, vegitables or whatever. I love mine. Enjoy!😊

I’ve seen those and almost bought one but for the two of us and the rare occasion we have a big family dinner, I settled on the 22 qt Nesco. I mainly use it to make tomato sauce during harvest season.

I have two roaster ovens and love them. I use them when necessary and when I can. But here is something for you to think about. I got the Breville Smart Oven Air, I believe it's called and it's wonderful for all the extra things I want to do. I dumped the toaster because it can toast, proof and bake bread, bake cookies or cakes and roast. So, when I have my big oven doing one thing, I can do anything I want to do with the Breville. Check it out, you may want one :) I still use my roasters for big items, like doing a big turkey and it's great for when you want to do a big batch of tomatoes to can or make a big batch of applesauce but the Breville does a great job on the every day things. By the way, both of my roasters are the Nesco brand and no sharp edges and they have worked great for many years.
