I am a huge Doug Stanhope fan...last show they seated me and my wife center of stage in the front row.....I was terrified. I gripped her firmly by the arm and whispered " You do not say anything....you laugh at everything.....and NO FUCKING PHONE".....the wife and I did well adhering to these rules. The other couple that they sat with us did not....he fucking destroyed them. I feel that I would have the same anxiety if they put me in front of Stav......dudes a killer....

i work in plasma which is laser's main competitor; his job is probably cushy enough through base salary that he doesn't rely on commission to get by... plus, one sale is probably an enormous boon due to the cost of that kind of tech and the fact that a customer will probably buy a lot of it at once

An industrial laser can cost as much as $600k. The commission off of one sale would be $60k if the guy gets 10%. That’s a pretty good job. I knew a woman back in the 80s that sold X Ray machines, and her commission off of one sale could be over $100k. In the 80s. I know plenty of people that are medical device or implant representatives that make well over 1/4 million/year because their product is so specialized and so expensive.

Something similar happened to me during a Harlan Williams set. My wife and I were in the front row and he started doing some crowd work. Looked at me and said "Well you look pleasant, what do you do sir." (I have a pretty odd career I can't really explain to folks so normally I just say "Defense contracting.") Well when you say that to someone like Harlan Williams....His brain explodes with material. He of course had "questions" that I cant really answer. So he then began asking my wife. Lol My wife says..."Been married to him for 15 years and all i know is.....he works for the DoD." He looked at me, looked at her, looked at me again and said...."Welp....moving on.....who here is a fuckin insurance salesmen that i can make fun of and it wont get me killed?" Lol Such a cool experience. Harlan was such an awesome show and couldnt have been nicer. Seeing crowd work live is so much fuckin fun.

Laser engineer for over a decade now...... the laser themselves aren't too bad. You can get welders for $60k. A high end femto (cutting laser) could push $300k. For just the box that produces the beam. The money is in the controls and system integration. Adding robotics, motion control, vision, optics, galvo.... there's endless ways to add on the bells and whistles. Dropping a million dollars on a custom system wouldn't even raise eyebrows in most cases.
