Rob Bell is right on point with this teaching... many times preachers are way into application without knowing the mind of God for a particular person... the invitation in preaching is help the listener to meet God where they're at and move towards the next level.

As long as its said with grace, charm and kindness, the comments of Dan Allison below, have a good amount of truth and insight, in my view. Jesus was rather cross with the fundamentalist Pharisees of His day, they tried to common folk people (like me) of joy and salvation. Fortunately, Rob Bell has a high view of the finished work of Jesus Christ --Risen from the dead, victorious as true King, and establishing His kingdom every since and right now. Good News indeed.

While learning about homiletical architecture and the anatomy of a topical sermon is interesting: without a supernatural gift of creativity coupled with a passionate response to the call of God on your life to preach, this presentation could be likened to the proverbial pearl example he gives in the presentation.

I'm sure there are some whom you are right about. But for most of us the heart breaking thing is that many of us are convinced that he is leading people astray. Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14 “For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it. If God says Destruction, he means destruction, not future release.

There are a few fuzzy things in the Bible, but they're nonessential issues. What Rob Bell does is take that concept and apply it to the essential doctrines to water down the heart of the gospel. That's why so many people reject him and his message.

Yhere is a differance between being slick and pretentious and being effective. If you can't hold the audiences attention then they walk away with nothing. Jesus was a master at using parables. This is a teaching technique designed to illustrate ideas and provoke thought. He also used props (fig tree, well, fish etc.). It is one of the things that set him apart from the scroll reading teachers of the synagogue and drew the unbelieving to listen. Learning to engage is not deception.

BTW the Greek word for destruction used in Matt 7:13 shares a common root with "Apollyon" which is used as a reference to Satan and in so doing he is called the "destroyer." So those on the "broad path" end up being destroyed with/by the destroyer.

Minute 19: "Judging others" hides a little insidious fact, when you "judge some else's daily spiritual episodes" you give authority to that blunder to reside in you. Jesus Christ is deploying a very sensible wisdom here.

.the only difference between his teachings and views of scripture and yours Rorshakks , is he wouldn't question how you view Christ and God or how you interpret or teach scripture..holding true to his belief that, Love Wins.

This is a series on the art of presenting the Word of God, it is not a sermon. Most of what he is teaching are techniques taught in major colleges for public speaking, lecturing and debate. We can all benefit from examaning these things. Of all the people I have met who reject Christianity it is not on the grounds of scripture per se but due to the way the doctrines were presented. What good does it do to preach if the end result is closed ears, minds and a lasting negative view.

There is a separation in teaching, Gospel and doctrine. The Gospel for salvation and doctrine for instruction. One can indeed preach a true gospel yet err in other doctrine. In a sense, the Gospel itself makes allowance for sin since we all continue in it until we die. The error in doctrine takes nothing from the Gospel if the Gospel itself is true. Look at Philippians1: 15-18 to see what Paul says.

It is fantastic, isn't it, that I can tell you what you don't know. Here's a wonderful synopsis of Bell's anti-Biblical beliefs. People more ably qualified than I have done the hard work. Take the brief time it'll take to read this short link. And then the enlightenment should hopefully come to thee, Josh.
@MaxAmoeba11 жыл бұрын
I agree with your position in this respect. His sanctification of a sin does take away from his credibility. However, I do not find it grounds enough to trash the whole body of his work or classify him as a false teacher. He is in error on a point. How many pastors could stand the test of perfection? Who preaches a doctrine without error? Point out the error and make it known but also give credit where credit is due. I do think this a serious error less insidious then many I have heard.

Since you seem to disregard facts, I will use some. KJV first appeared in 14th century. That is close to 1500 years after it was originally written. So how did those people manage before KJV? The bible was written mostly in koine Greek. Later translated in Latin. The KJV was written from that translation of Latin. So its literally a translation of a translation of the original language.
@vision5712 жыл бұрын
How do you know exactly what scripture is, how it's interpreted, or how it's been tainted? His teachings are based on his interpretation of how he views Jesus and God from scripture, just as your opinions and judgements of his teachings are based on your interpretation of scripture
@MaxAmoeba11 жыл бұрын
You keep saying he is a false tacher, I vehemently disagree with his stance on gay marriage and hope he will repent from it, but if he were to preach a sermon on the Gospel of salvation and do so perfectly would you say the message is invalid? Lets look at the Bible to see how Paul preached. 1 Cor 9:19-23, Most are convinced that they know all truth and they verbally stone those who bring a differant message Mat 23:37, Act 7:54:60. Who has perfect doctrine in all things....you? Ecc 7:16

I know we all have different opinions on certain things in the bible. I'm saying Jordan was the greatest, you're saying James is the greatest, john is saying that Bird could have been the best, Rob Bell is saying the goal is 11' tall. Not a different interpretation or understanding; just wrong.

Well you make some good points,and thanks for your insight...I will say that him speaking against god at any point reveals a deceptive spirit at work and tells me to stay clear of him completely..Galatians touches on this. and when I refer to the KJV,I'm making the point that these *new* translations are deceptive...the NIV alters lucifers identity ...and the "new"KJV has a witchcraft symbol for the godhead on the front-acts 17:29 speaks against this.
@frischdad11 жыл бұрын
Your point of KJV is completely invalid. The only way not to alter scripture is read it in its most literal translation. That being Greek or Hebrew or Aramaic. KJV is not the best literal translation, its actually quite inaccurate in many instances. I would point out that Judas did many good things for Jesus before becoming a traitor.
@dignerds11 жыл бұрын
Your probably a more seasoned Christian than I am,my journey is new(few years) and i'm trying to find my way...there are almost 40.000 sects of Christianity and all kinds of translations of the bible...and I know for sure god has 1 voice and meaning,and the bible warns over and over again in many places about other doctrines and gospels and deceivers..and it makes me mad that many well intentioned people are being mislead..some even believe god is feminine...
@davidcastro2535 жыл бұрын
Rob Bell is very allegorical in his interpretation. This can be dangerous because it tends to leave the context and the intended message of the author.
@555pontifex11 жыл бұрын
Pigs are unclean. Jesus was not saying "don't give good things to people who are not ready for them". He was saying "don't give good things to people who are not WORTHY of them. Rob Bell would doubtless find my gloss judgmental. But that is what Jesus was saying, like it or not.

Maybe you should make an argument with actual facts and information. It's people like you that drive me nuts. Sure Ok Rob Bell has gone off on the deep end. The Bible also says that his word never comes back void. Just because he said something later on that is against the word of God, doesn't make what he said before invalid. It doesn't mean that God, and by the way only God can, can't convict and use his words from past to bring someone to him.
@samuelsim24666 жыл бұрын
As with hyper grace preachers, he is another type of the same spirit.... twisting scriptures to sell his brand of the gospel.
@frischdad11 жыл бұрын
Really the KJV because that was the original language of the Bible. Come on at least make a reasonable argument. I don't agree with his current stance on things, but this is just a pathetic argument. A far better more literal translation would be ESV to start with. How about a latin translation that was before KJV. This sort of statement is mostly ignorant and void of any factual arguments among anyone who studies scripture.
@rorshakks12 жыл бұрын
That's too illogical to respond to.
@frischdad11 жыл бұрын
The church as we know it didn't exist until after Jesus. Read Acts again if you disagree. What killed Jesus was religion. I happen to believe Rob Bell has a lot of good things to say, but his take on hell and homosexuality isn't biblical. We can make dumb arguments like yours all day long it still doesn't make it right. I would also point to Paul who had no problem telling Peter he was wrong and a few others calling them hypocrites. So theres also that.

How can someone preach a sermon on the Gospel with conviction and authority when he is also telling you that certain sin is OK. The two don't go together. The Gospel is pure and a precious thing that shouldn't not be clouded by our opinions, but should be made clear by truth of God's word. If you are leading people away from the gospel on one front and then trying to lead them to the gospel on another, how does that work? How does that not make what you say invalid?
@rorshakks12 жыл бұрын

Gods words can't be mixed with words of deceivers....if you spot something rob says that's against god (as YOU stated) then that's a red flag god is showing you which is actually how god wins but your keeping this guy in your ear despite god showing you..so gods words won't win in the end---iron and clay don't mix well my friend .
@dignerds11 жыл бұрын
No it isn't..god said his word will be in many tongues...its not meant to be in just the languages you named.The KJV is superior to ALL of these new translations. The KJV also demonstrates the pattern of gods word in a way NO other does.There's more of an attack against the KJV bible than there is against these big money preachers....which is what the devil wants and the points you make shows that you are on the wrong side of deception.
@dignerds11 жыл бұрын
...and so what? the KJV doesn't mask lucifers identity.....and i'm comparing the KJV to the RECENT translations which are deliberately corrupted,and The KJV is not.The bible was written in mostly Hebrew originally...not greek.this right here is the main problem with Christianity...its fractured...even in its origins...god expect us to follow him..but we can't even agree on doctrine or a bible...I've used facts...you want to follow new age Christianity go right ahead.
