At first, I thought to myself "It would be really irresponsible to just not pay any bills for a month and buy a Les Paul." Then I thought "I know a lot of people a month behind on their bills, and most of them don't have a Les Paul."

This is the first time I've commented. I love you guys! You make this 60 year old Aussie very happy with all your reviews and antics. Great choice with the Standard. What a beautiful finish. Also very surprised how nice the SG sounded. 2016 is definitely the year of the Les Paul Gold Top Deluxe for me (to replace the one I sold in the 70s). Looking forward to your review of the 2016 Les Paul range in November. Many thanks.

+bartek sitko ... from your posts and the answers ... i do get the impression: Gibson can "be pissed off" ??!! Beware and repent! Gibson starts with a big G for a good reason => Gibson == God of guitar manufacturers ... So be very careful when stating/posting such stuff! Chappers would never ever say or do anything that could upset the big Gibson! Punishment would be: string brake, neck warp, slack joints in PUs, etc. Our career lies in the hands of big Gibson too: no LP on stage => eggs and fruits thrown instead of applause and groupies! Gibson does not "piss" it "oozes quality"!

I went for the Traditional! It doesn't look a million miles away from your Standard its a honey burst with a tear burst rather than the rim burst a lot have. I know its great having the sound options on a Standard but I still feel a Les Paul should be like the original 59's. I can get a wide variety of tones for different genres out of the two pups. Check it out and let me know what you think ;0)

+Artimus Gray To impress people who are impressed by expensive guitars? I'm sure there are more legit reasons too.
@DiatonicVids9 жыл бұрын
+Artimus Gray Maybe you don't know what goes into building a guitar. They're not simple things, and the only way to make them cheap is to mass produce them in asian sweatshops. Gibson doesn't do that. Their employees have to eat, ya know.
@quasarpuffs9 жыл бұрын
+DiatonicVids Gibson guitars *are* mass produced in a factory not much different than a lot of the asian ones. If they're sweatshops, then Gibson's plant is too. Also, Gibson's guitar builders don't make very much money.
@J2OE999 жыл бұрын
For professional guitarists I think it is justifiable. The higher build quality will mean it will be more reliable during touring and could potentially last all of their career if taken care of. For people who just play as a hobby, they might like the heritage of the guitar being made in the USA and want to support the industry but personally I don't think it is worth the extra money. Also, guitars are very reasonably priced when compared to other musical instruments. Pianos, violins and saxophones can easily get much more expensive.

With playing like butter I mean it plays very smooth and has a very fast action (butter is soft when on room temperature and used to make things very slippery.) Butter also can be used to make things more appealing to the tongue (for example an ovenroast chicken with butter smeared over it) this guitar plays and sounds like butter.

+Space_Monkey You ask why, say you don't get it, and then say that you would if you could... Best comment ever 10/10.
@Rickzenbackzer9 жыл бұрын
+Space_Monkey Probably because the 2015 Gibsons had too many weird features that you have no choice about, like the electronic tuning (which are horrible in many peoples opinions, and that won't last 60 years), and the scribble signature on the headstock, and the fret over binding, and the noticeably wider neck. I have 3 Gibson guitars and from the point of view of a Gibson user and fan the 2015 models changed too much.

Love Chappers n Capt lee, they actually know what sounds good n what doesn't
I own both 2015 LP Standard and SG Standard. I don't understand why people care so much about such small details as hologram logo and LP signature. Both guitars are great sounding guitars. G-Force can be removed easily if don't like it, I actually prefer it - it so much comfort. Brass nut however is something to consider, it has one disadvantage - in the point where string lays on the nut tiny cavities are formed, and during the bends string slightly pops out of cavity and sometimes doesn't go back in, in the result you get out of tune string, so make sure you always have a lube on your nut. Besides that, 2015 models will become collectibles somewhere in the future.
@andrewbryan3599 жыл бұрын
+ArthurVlog Couldn't agree more Arthur. Mine sounds and plays great and I have no problems with the brass nut. Having listened to the Captain and Chappers raving about the 2015's and then the bearded one flogs his for a 2016 I will never watch another Anderton demonstration video. I prefer the guy on Dawson's anyway!
@jawsykilla9 жыл бұрын
I hate to be that guy but I saw the £2099 price tag on that LP and it made me a little sick in my mouth. You could have a Kiesel SCB6 to your liking for less than that, I'm not saying LPs are bad because they most definitely are not. Similar body shape, pick your own woods, pick your own colour(s), hardware, neck profile, frets etc etc and save money and ultimately get a better instrument... Nice LP though for sure.

I have a Les Paul Standard (Vintage Burst), and a Gibson Nighthawk Studio (Gold-top) and live in a sub tropical climate in Australia where the weather can be 99% humidity one day, and 33% humidity the next. Both guitars NEVER EVER go out of tune and I don't have locking tuners on either guitar. Even after a month or so both guitars will be perfectly in tune. Oh and by the way - I don't have a pick guard on my LP either - they suck in my humble opinion.

Why sell one Les Paul and get another? What was the matter with the other one? It doesn't say much for his own brand when he buys a different make? Questions questions.
@matzer88469 жыл бұрын
+niptodstan ... hm ... maybe putting up a new studio in Malta ... A good Standard LesPaul is something like a "standard/have to have one" in most studios. 2015 wasn't a "Standard Year" for Gibson products ... Not buying his brand? Guess the ML2 isn't a "Standard" either ... but ... why don't we ask Chappers for a demo ... see my next post.

Guitar buying and selling is an addiction man. There's always something different out there you want in the future. I'm not one of those types, I bought one Gibson and I'll never sell it for anything, but my roommate, who is more of a musician than I, buys and sells Strats and Tele's like they're trading cards. Perfectly good American models too, I don't get it. Doesn't mean they're bad.

owns a guitar company but buys a gibson?
@PickledDill9079 жыл бұрын
+tom mathes Yea because he wanted a Gibson Les Paul. His company doesn't make Gibson Les Pauls... so...
@TheDogPa9 жыл бұрын
+tom mathes Actually, he resells from a Korean factory...drop shipped. We are entitled to like it or not. Gibson and Fender were bought by a corporation with the highest bid many decades ago...several times. Not that a company several generations from the original is unique to America though...and I'm sure there is little quality difference between a Chapman or a Gibson. Of course, buying a Chapman does support a really cool dude and all...while buying from Gibson supports old dudes and all those stock holders...but it is his choice, just like yours or mine I guess. He didn't ask us to understand, just shares his excesses because none of us can enjoy it like he does...and that is worth something all by itself.

Gibslayer so he cant make one as good as? Or he just wants the name?
@TheDogPa9 жыл бұрын
I'd be interested in his response...? They certainly can make very good guitars in Korea. I would bet that Chapman needs to make more than a single one to make it affordable though. Someone here once suggested a guitar without the hard parts so they could be added later to save the cost...a pretty good idea.Pick your own tuners and pickups...?
@MrTom14689 жыл бұрын
***** Why? Was the question I asked, because of the name? Or because he cant build one as well? So he can belong to the Gibson club? Or is a new gibson better then the one he sold? Is gibson better then what he can make? The question was ....Why As far as him helping andertons market (I dont care and wasnt what I asked)

You should do a series of videos where you make, for instance, the ultimate chapman guitars rig, or the ultimate fender or gibson rig. Just a lot of pairing guitars with amps and pedals and all, and you could do it at a variety of price points.

Hi Rob, what was the main reason that pushed you to choose the 2016 over the 2015? Neck shape? Tone? Tuning stability? Other reason? Sound-wise, I personally don´t think there should be a great difference in tone between them, but would be much appreciated your opinion as you´ve tried both. Cheers.

2016 Les Paul's are very nice guitars. I have a Standard, Traditional and a Studio and they all play and sound great. Interesting to see that the Drummond has reverted to its original name, it was called the Forger and Firkin when I lived in Guildford and used to visit Andertons most Saturday afternoons.

The 2015 line up was the first year in many I didn't buy a new LP. Now that Gibson has brought back real Les Paul's, and even "nibs", thank you for that Gibson, it comes down to which finish. Already have Cherry, Desert, Honey and Tea bursts. I do like the Trans Black as it is so different from the "normal" burst colors, but something about the Fireball has me keep looking back at that finish and think that's the one I'm going to go for. Also been looking at an SG again and Chappers brought up that magic word when thinking of an SG, ZAPPA! At 1199 US for the SG, it's so affordable there's really no reason not to get both....Thanks for the video, was fun to watch!

Congrats Chappers I just bought a Gibson Memphis custom " late 60's" es 335 limited run....Its delicious. Seriously I want to eat it when not playing it. ...When you said Zappa I thought you were going to opt for a fretless wonder..so much of Franks smoking lead work was played on a 1971 LP custom.."Im the slime" perfect example..One can hear the so ,so smooth super low action of the strings as they snap against the velvety ebony board under his pick..mmmmmmm

Hey Rob Chapman, first of all, big fan of your videos and what you do, your solve so many doubts to us young musicians. So I actually would liek to know your opinion about the quality of Gibson nowadays, because there is a lot of places where people talk shit about Gibsons quality control and the quality in general of Gibson guitars nowadays. However when I heard your reviews about the 2015 and 2016 I actually heard beautiful tones. So it would be awesome to listen what do you have to say since you have pretty awesome guitars and you bought them. Thanks man.

Just want to share my thought about modern LP. Of course it's just what you prefer. But if you feel in my way it can be useful for you. Standard is thin and empty sounding for me. It's because of weight relief and super bright Burstbuckers Pro. Traditional sounds right for me but sometimes from one guitar to another there can be really sharp sound. So I personally prefer Custom Shop reissue which sounds more warm with more body in sound. It's not a question of pickups. Tested a lot. It's a question of wood. But sometime you are not happy with Reissue because it's too muddy and doesn't cut the mix. It's because of a leak from one pickup to another. The reason why is the vintage wiring. I found a couple of solutions and you can get the best LP with all benefits of Gibson USA and Gibson Custom Shop. Once I will tell you in video how to make this upgrade
