I love the Cadbury Snack. Have done all my life. I remember my Dad picking up an occasional block of Snack plus the Old Gold (before they were Cadbury!). I had an English girlfriend who insisted the English Cadburys Dairy milk chocolate was better than the Aussie one. So she got her parents to send her the English version and we did a blind taste test and I picked the English one. I thought it tasted creamier. I theorised that the recipe was different so the Aussie version didn’t melt as quickly. So we did a melting test and sure enough the English version melted much quicker.

Tend to agree. When I emigrated from the UK as a child, I noticed the difference immediately. A trip back a few years ago confirmed it. Probably has to do with the feed the cows are ingesting. Seasons can affect perceived flavour too, I believe. The one thing that remains a constant in either case, is that Cadburys is way better than most brands out there!

Charlie, also make sure that you declare any food you’re carrying when coming into Australia or NZ, typically a formality for prepackaged products if declared. I don’t know about when you’re going home, as I can’t remember the UK being anywhere near as strict and as we normally arrived via the Netherland and Her Majesties customs were normally more interested in other items you might be carrying! The new range of flavours fillings expanded wildly here about one to two years after Cadbury’s being bought up P.S. If you can’t live without Cadbury’s dark chocolate (Bourneville) pack a bar or two as its not available here, only from a limited number of UK sweet shops. I grew up a few suburbs away from there and most of my primary school classmates had parents who worked at the factory mainly post war immigrants. Occasionally we would get a 1/2 or 1lb bag of “defective looking” Milk Trays brought into class by someone child. I brought my wife to the factory after they had stopped tours here in Tasmania and she was more impressed by the way the founders (Quaker) looked after his workers and the fact that it was originally for the manufacture of Drinking Chocolate as an alternative drink with no alcohol. I've arrived in the UK from NZ a few times. They don't check, especially if you have a British passport, and go through the fast lane, which I have. I know of people who have bought fruit from NZ into the UK before, and a cousin of mine bought prickly pear from Malta into the UK before and they didn't care. You're right though, try doing that going into Oz and NZ and you'll get fined and the food confiscated, as they do check, citizen or not. And I do have a NZ passport too, so it applies to me going into NZ, even though I'm a citizen there too
@Merrid67play2 жыл бұрын
Just declare it - they'll confiscate plants, meat products and untreated seeds, but they're fine with vaked goods and packaged food generally. But if you don't declare it and they decide to do a random check, you'll get a fine.
@nswinoz33022 жыл бұрын
@@Merrid67play Exactly my point! Better to declare everything on the card (Charlie will know what I mean, as they hand them out on the flight), advise Boarder Security and let them give you the OK on the way in. I’ve brought timber and food product back into Oz from Europe more than once. With a quick inspection by them looking for the obvious tale tail signs of bugs etc.. you would known are not visible if you checked it and you are on your way. They hardly look twice at properly package food products so long as you declare them. We had four young British males arriving in the customs lounge at Sydney a few years back, commented on possibly giving Boarder Security a hard time just in front of me. I reminded them that until you get past those fatherless sons and daughters, you are NOT in Australia and do you fancy a return trip at your expense within 24 hours. They’ll treat me just as badly, it’s just locals don’t get the sent back. Australia has the toughest boarder security in the world bar none. Stephen M

Also the pascall caramels are actually like a harder version of the liquid caramel in the snack block. Maybe putting in the fridge ruins the caramel. They aren't rock hard but chewy. I'm a bit puzzled as to why you don't notice the difference. Then maybe they've gone back to palm oil again, as it has been a couple of years since I've been back in NZ. Australian chocolate is definitely different to UK and American chocolate. 1st it depends on where the cocoa comes from , 2nd how long ist been tempered for ( this affects the melting point but it also depends on where the cocoa comes from because one cocoa is not the same as the other. ) 3rd how the ingredients have been stored and 4th the amount of cocoa , milk, milk powder, cocoa fat and modifiers have been added. All of these affect chocolate in different ways which is why people prefer one countries chocolate over the other. There is also each counties requirement for chocolate to be sold as either eating or cooking chocolate. In the US they allow for more chocolate liqueur than other countries which means less cocoa bean and less cocoa fat . Now the rumour that they add a chemical to Australian chocolate. - this is untrue. The melting point of chocolate depends on how it has been tempered. The more it’s tempered apparently the lower the melting point . So Australian chocolate isn’t tempered as much as UK chocolate therefore stays more solid at a higher temperature.

Confectionery giant Mondelēz International is transitioning to segregated palm oil for all of its Australian made products, most notably in the Cadbury Dairy Milk range. ‘Segregated’ palm oil means that it’s kept separate from ordinary palm oil throughout the supply chain and, in this instance, it will be certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). “While Australian made Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate doesn’t contain any palm oil, we do use a small amount in some flavoured centres and inclusions, so we want to ensure it’s sourced in the right way,” marketing director for Cadbury ANZ, Paul Chatfield said.

Out of curiosity, I’ve always wondered how you guys live without a laundry. For a start, is that a washer/dryer and is that a normal thing over there? Here in Australia it’s not common. And no laundry sink, but they’re different to kitchen ones ie deeper, larger, made of different materials etc for a reason, you can’t use bleach etc in the kitchen! What about the cupboards and other space, where is your iron and board, chemicals, things like steamers, brooms and mops… that can’t all be in a linen closet can it? That’s not usually in the garage or carport here but sure it’s possible, most places don’t have a storeroom as such and no attics/basements. And isn’t it very noisy in the living areas when doing the washing, with no door to shut and no distance between you and the noise? That seems impossible to work around! And do you all have huge kitchens? That machine takes up space, especially if you want a dishwasher as well. This is all too much for me 😂
