Totally different times. When all our soils are depleted we can eat fruit again. Now, we still can grow more healty stuff like beans and cabage.

You can tell that the orange in European Fanta is natural. Even if it doesn't taste like juice, it doesn't taste fundamentally different from juice. You can tell it's from the same origin. I live in the EU. In most countries over here everyone drinks fresh squeezed orange juice. The supermarkets carry it. I'd don't recall ever seeing anyone drink a bottle of orange juice that was not fresh squeezed; people probably do, but I've never seen it.

Worst thing is that people assume a synthetic dye is toxic and the natural stuff is safe despite synth generally not being biologically active, you need far less and it passes unchanged where as natural dye generally contains the same funky nitrogen compounds, you need far more to get a strong color and god knows what its binding too inside the body because no real studies get done. Fanta was "invented" and sold by the German subsidiary of the Coca Cola company in 1940 because they couldn't produce and sell the original Coca Cola any longer. So Fanta wasn't bought by Coca Cola. And yes, it was originally made from apples and whey, in 1955 Coca Cola Italy came up with the version relying on oranges which has become the standard Fanta nowadays at least in Europe.

Let me tell you a trick about the lid, so it doesn’t get on your way when you are drinking. If you push the lid a little bit harder it does a “click” sound and stays flat horizontally. At least in my country that’s how it works, so I suppose all Europe follows the same logic.

I can't say that I'm surprised in any way. Europeans have standards, especially enforced by European Union, which bans a lot of unhealthy stuff and even gives customers more laws. It's obviously not perfect, but I am very glad I live in Europe, not America. My favorite difference in law is that when American modifying a device would lose a warranty, in Europe you can't lose warranty even if you open it and do whatever you want with it, as long as you don't break it yourself. And it's the company that has to prove that the device doesn't work because you modified it and broke it. I can root my android and it won't make me los a warranty. Plus we also have additional 12 months of warranty given by EU. Like you have only a year iirc, we have 2 years of base warranty.

I was an exchange student for 3 months in the US, from Italy. First week I got severe belly and stomach pains. My exchange family actually ordered pizza and what they thought were Italian meals but it was actually fastfood overloaded with sugar, nothing came even close to what we eat in Italy. Europe Fanta, UK or Spain information: A lot of text, I know... But it is better to have knowledge than to be ignorant. UK Fanta gets its color from carrots, pumpkins, and orange fruit, while the US version gets it from dyes (red 40 and yellow 6). Also about 3 times as much sugar in the US version versus the UK version, and the US Fanta has high fructose corn syrup while the UK version has sugar. In contrast, American Fanta contains high-fructose corn syrup instead of pure sugar and does not contain any real juice. Certain ingredients allowed in the U.S. are banned in Europe, while other ingredients aren't outright prohibited but have stricter regulations in Europe. This includes synthetic food dyes like Yellow No. 6, and Red No. 40. American Fanta contains both Yellow 6 and Red 40. One key difference between the U.S. and Spanish versions of Fanta is the ingredients. Fanta sold in Spain contains 8% orange juice, while the American version, perhaps rather shockingly, contains no juice at all. Apart from the most striking difference, which is colour, the unbelievable video highlights the difference in flavour between the two: while Spanish Fanta has a flavour that reminds us of natural orange juice, American Fanta has a clearly artificial and sugary flavour to it. The difference in flavours is also a reflection of the habits of each country. Americans prefer sugary drinks and prioritise them over natural ingredients. However, the Spanish market is somewhat more demanding regarding the ingredients and flavours of its drinks.

The lid in Europe was aweful at beginning, but you get use to it quickly. It's to get more plastic recykled.

@@apokkalyps6 i think a big issue was that people just threw the caps away separately, causing the wild life and nature to suffer with the tiny caps getting to the nature and microplastic getting everywhere. People like to throw trash anywhere but the trashcans for some reason and they cry when companies decide to fix that issue? that's what's scary to me.

No you don't get used to it. It's annoying as fuck. Specially for those of us who didn't throw the lids away in the first place and now have to deal with this bullshit. I cut mines with scissors or it's impossible to drink from the bottle without getting your cheek or your nose wet, or spilling the drink precisely while trying not to get wet, not to mention that it sometimes just closes on its own and ends up spilling the drink anyways. If people were just less filthy we would still have normal lids.

The lid thing is a fairly new thing in Europe, we are still getting use to it. But you can twist it and break it off, if it annoys you.

​@@andij605 I still spill often. Either while ripping off the cap or the liquid in the cap drips on my hand while tilting it to take a sip. I'm very pro EU but this law has me rethinking that. And all because some psychopaths throw the cap away before they're done. Who the hell doesn't keep it to screw it back on before throwing away. That has to be less than 10%. I've never seen anyone in my life open a soda and discard the cap. That's what cans are for. The nice thing about a bottle is that you can close it again, which the tab doesn't help, it needs to be longer.

If you push the lid a little further it will make a clicking sound and stay in place. It shouldn't bother you after that. They could've actually explained this in the first place though because you have to almost accidentally get there just to know this.

the "lid thing" is to make it stick to the bottle so laying around plastic in the environment is reduced and it is disposed 'in one piece' so the (micro-)plastic in the food chain and in the environment is reduced. They introduced it not too long ago, a year or two, I'd say.

Coca Cola actually has a very nice website where you can easily look up the nutrition facts and ingredients of their products. I compared the Fanta ingredients from a few countries, and turns out that even neighboring countries within the EU have very different Fantas. TLDR: German Fanta contains less juice and therefore less sugar than Austrian Fanta, and contains some extra ingredients that don't really make a difference. US Fanta uses high fructose corn sirup instead of sucrose, and just flavoring instead of juice concentrate, and they use different coloring that has a bad reputation in Europe. Comparing German and Austrian Fanta (neighboring countries that even speak almost the same language): German Fanta has about 24% less calories than Austrian Fanta (32 vs 42 kcal/100ml) That's probably mostly because it has about 26% less sugars (7.6 vs 10.3 g/100ml) And that's probably because it contains 40% less juice (3% instead of 5% orange juice concentrate) The only other difference is that German Fanta has some extra ingredients: It contains citrus extract and sodium gluconate, which Austrian Fanta doesn't have. It contains citric and malic acid, Austrian Fanta only has citric acid. And it contains some extra stabilizers, namely guaran, gum arabic and glycerol ester of rosin, Austrian Fanta only contains guaran, Otherwise they are the same. Both use carotin for coloring, both use ascorbic acid as an antioxidant, both contain natural flavoring, and of course both use sugar (sucrose). Now let's compare these to US Fanta. 270 calories per 20oz is 46 kcal/100ml, so more than both German and Austrian Fanta, though not a huge difference, 73g sugars per 20oz is 12.3g/100ml, which is a lot imho, I'm Austrian but I think our Fanta already has way too much sugar. Though it seems that none of these sugars are from juice, and none of them are sucrose, it's all high fructose corn syrup. And the other big difference is the coloring. Yellow 6 aka sunset yellow, and red 40 aka allura red. Contrary to popular belief these are not banned in the EU, but products containing them require a warning label that they may cause hyperactivity in children. I think they aren't used much here because it would give the product a bad reputation and negatively affect sales numbers. It also contains the preservative sodium benzoate and modified starch for some reason.

Oh man! I'm from Bavaria, but moved to Austria a couple of years ago. I never drank a lot of Fanta, but I thought I was crazy for thinking it tastes a bit different. Turns out I'm not! 😂 Thanks, man. I also had US Fanta (just whilst visiting) and from the looks alone it was clear it'd taste different. I was honestly surprised that you can (in my opinion) fck up Fanta that much. Ours here might not taste the same between countries (again: really cool fact), but at least it's somewhat what you'd expect it to be. 😅

To answer your question why European Fanta contains real orange juice and the US does not is because of government rules I wouldn't be surprised if the profit margin on the US version is slightly bigger because the chemicals they're allowed to put in it might be cheaper, than real orange juice
