“I’m trying to be brave” says the lyric. I don’t buy it. What is meant to sound like an emotional parting feels to me more like a selfish break-up. A far better song on this subject is Mary Chapin Carpenter’s “Closer and Closer Apart”. Rob Houchen, by the way, sings the socks off Adele’s song, which is more than it merits.
