Cognitive dissonance (the mental conflict that occurs when beliefs or assumptions are contradicted by new information) is a mental trait that will hold back, not only students, but teachers/masters to enhancing their abilities for certain practices. Be humble to adapt 🤗

One of the things I have learned from shooting in the last year is if you want to become better at it, you have to stop and break it down. If you aren't satisfied with your results after all these years you may have to scrap just about everything and start over. New stance, grip, trigger control and draw. I took a four day handgun class and found out the grip they taught was just awful. It's taken me months to get that out of my head. The last bit of this video says if you're doing the same wrong thing over and over and expecting different results, it's a sign of insanity.
@paddypibblet846
@paddypibblet846 2 жыл бұрын
You also have to be careful with the scenario where you were taught the right way but you weren't exactly doing it the right way and you scrapped the right way because you weren't at the level to do it right yet. I see this a lot in newer shooters who take comfortable over right especially if they get frustrated with results. Not saying you're guilty of this, but I don't discard techniques unless I've compared extensively.

I think a lot of issues with "slow and accurate". Come from a time of, 5 rounds on a circular target. People are afraid to learn how to use a gun for its intended purpose. Therefore we have a bunch of momos walking around with a CCW, not knowing the fundamentals from a self defense standpoint as well.

You can go so slow your accuracy won't matter. In competion or in SD. Hit factor, target disapears, target shoots you first. Too often instructors that teach accuracy without regard to speed are setting the bar low enough for them to achieve to protect their own ego.

Rob is spot on as usual. People tend to get locked in to a paradigm and refuse to self analyze and make the necessary corrections. Someone, years ago told them that "X" is better than "Y" and they will do everything they can to hang on their version of reality no mater what. This is much like the martial arts scene these days.

@mgoo1713
@mgoo1713 6 жыл бұрын
Bill Retherford you will never learn to shoot fast if you don't practice it. Shoot slow and accurate, stay slow and accurate. The mechanics of shooting fast are not the same as shooting slow. Slap that trigger.
@TheSuburban15
@TheSuburban15 6 жыл бұрын
To a point. If you never practice going fast, you'll never get any good at shooting fast, no matter how much you drill accuracy. It's the _balance_ of speed and accuracy that you develop with practice.
@UrbanDefenseSystems
@UrbanDefenseSystems Жыл бұрын
Yes, you have to experiment with speed. Even if the wheels fall of the wagon, then just dial it back a bit, but it's the constant experimentation with going fast that gets you fast.

Accuracy and speed are both necessary. The most important thing to focus on is putting rounds on target. Once you know how to make the bullets go where you want them to go every time, *then* you focus on speed.
@joeberger3441
@joeberger3441 5 жыл бұрын
No..why? Because the things you do for pure accuracy don't always work when speed is a factor. You have to shoot in ways that will hold up when milliseconds matter. The mechanics of shooting fast are not the same as shooting slow and accurate
@UrbanDefenseSystems
@UrbanDefenseSystems Жыл бұрын
@@joeberger3441 They absolutely are the same, even Rob Leatham will tell you this. All you're doing is relaxing them in favor of speed. But they're not fundamentally different. You're simply applying less confirmation on your sights, and perhaps less care on your trigger pull.

I agree in part but just because you shoot the gut with a handgun (even in the face) doesn't mean the fight is over. So I agree speed is important but its the speed at which you move your ass, preferably to a better place, not necessarily the speed with which you shoot someone. First I'm trying to not get shot, then shooting the bad guy, and when I do I'll take a good enough sight picture and good enough trigger press all day. Unless your at "sniper ranges" for pistols good enough will work.
