ellis smith that shows the extent of his brain damage. Im 58 years old and can honestly say that I have never met good person. There is nothing secial about the boys that stomped Sophie to death, if she had lived they would have gotten away with it and lived normal lives. There would be no foundation and a lit of people would have never been helped by that foundation.

no words can express how angry, hurt and sickened by what happened. 10 years on and i still think of these two. I remember all the S.O.P.H.I.E marches that took place, the police presence...why? why should we be afraid to be different? music should bring people together, not separate us into tiny little groups. S.O.P.H.I.E
@pretzelmaker31223 жыл бұрын
It is simpler than music. Dressing goth doesn't express your music interests, although, yeah, most of the time it is related to heavy metal/screamo, etc. This crime happened because some idiots who are walking the street now simply didn't like that these people liked to wear black, dyed their hair, had piercings and were otherwise different than those idiots.
@darkgraver60952 жыл бұрын
@@pretzelmaker3122 Ermm no. I think you're confusing emos with goths. Emos commonly listen to heavy metal, screamo, and metalcore, and goths listen to gothic rock, post-punk, dark wave, ethereal wave, deathrock, etc. Goth is heavily tied with musical interest, after all, it is a music based subculture. In fact, it has its roots in music since the late 70s and early 80s when it spawned from the UK punk scene - with post-punk being widely regarded as the first goth genre, which offered a moodier and darker twist on punk music

People keep mentioning the goth / alternative scene but you’re forgetting the vital message from this entire documentary & it’s horribly worrying?! This isn’t about a certain ‘scene’ you’re into, this is about being ‘different’ / standing out from societies ‘norms’ & how disgustingly unaccepting & cruel people are because of it. Acne, being short, too slim, too fat, being a goth - it doesn’t matter, the core message is acceptance, & to stop standing by & letting people continuously get ridiculed for not ‘fitting in’. I was overweight during my secondary school years due to health issues - I was taking steroid medication on & off throughout my teens, it made me balloon in weight (along with abuse at home / undiagnosed ED). I had a whole heap of friends, my best friend I nicknamed ‘pocket Rottweiler’, she was 5’2” & fiercely protective, but there were many instances that I was on my own & had the face the onslaught of not just my fellow peers, but grown arse men (nearly always men) shouting abuse / throwing hot coffee on me & spitting on me in the street. I did have a breakdown just before my 21st birthday & I spent nearly 4 years inside with agoraphobia. It’s not just the physical affects of being beaten or abused that stay with you, it’s more the emotional / mental - they never truly leave. My heart broke when I saw this documentary, it stayed with me for a very, very long time. I truly hope Rob is doing as well as can be all these years later, & was able to pursue his dreams of doing art. x

Its not just hate crime that fuels tragic attacks like this, there are many types out there who use any excuse to vent their anger, frustration and sometimes sheer delight in hurting people. They take, for example, Goths to be different and therefore a legitimate target (in their own warped and senseless opinion) and will take pride as a gang member in showing they are up for it, by inflicting severe damage to another persons life. That it ended in death for Sophie does not seem to take away the determination of certain people to continue without remorse, the ongoing attacks aimed at anyone who is deemed to be a soft target, an attack that will have no repercussions as the victims are either outnumbered or weak and not aggressive. These types are cowards primarily and will always group together to inflict as much damage as they can en masse but on their own, each one would not even confront a potential victim without calling in their "mates". They are not primeval or feral, they are just brainless thugs who will probably end up extortionists and lifetime bullies. Hopefully they'll die young under their own sword before causing another tragedy. I live in hope. RIP Sophie.

@Shades_of_White Жыл бұрын
The word you used 'dabbling', this is what so many people do in their teens/young adulthood. I went through a little mosher stage as did many of my friends, yet when I grew up I didn't end up a mosher, and the same rings true for my old friends. For many it's just a phase...now imagine wanting to kill someone for something so insignificant. It's just mental to me. And I also just want to add I don't think there's anything wrong with being a mosher or a goth. Be whatever you like.

To be attacked and die because you don't conform to what society considers normal ("normal" is something that doesn't exist). Just because people are Goths, don't mean they don't have hearts. I hate some people in this world. Not every "normal" person is bad, but not all Goths are bad either RIP Sophie 🖤

Best of luck with your life Rob just watched a documentary on tv tonight about the attack on you and Sophie. You are an amazing young man. Sophie had a very special person in her life with you. How you have handled yourself shows how incredibly strong you are. Best of luck with your life

It’s too small! First thing I thought when I saw my uncle’s coffin. My friend passed away she had a body that was short but wide and her coffin really represented her shape. It wa almost hexagon

Im glad that the s.o.p.h.i.e foundation is continuing to this day. Goth/metalheads/punks, all show their support to spread awareness of hate crime. I hope rob is doing okay, i know its been very difficult for him. I wish him the best times now, and know that sophie is always looking down from heaven on him.
