Thank you guys for your honest and harsh opinions on what has been happening here in the Bay Area. Oakland A's fans here are heartbroken that this is going down like this. We have fought SO hard to let it be known what John Fisher has done to this organization here. Rob Manfred is also to blame in all of this by suggesting early on in the middle of negotiations with Oakland that he would waive the relocation fee which put Oakland at a disadvantage. Las Vegas residents overwhelmingly want an expansion team and Oakland has raised over $500 million dollars, not from tax payer money but by grants for the Howard Terminal project, so for Rob Manfred to pretend like there was no plan here when the evidence suggests otherwise is completely unacceptable and like you guys said unforgivable.. Having the A's on the Bay at Howard Terminal across from the Giants' stadium would've been GREAT for not only the Bay Bridge series but also baseball. And speaking of the Giants, I am incredibly disappointed in them for not having a backbone and doing what's right by voting no even if it was the unpopular thing to do. I can confidently tell you that A's fans don't have any desire to jump ship and morph into Giants fans and I promise you by the way this loyal fan base has been treated that we will NOT follow the team to Las Vegas! Fisher and Kaval still have the nerve to boast the "Rooted In Oakland" slogan as it's still painted on the Coliseum for everyone to see passing by on Interstate 880, yet never had any intentions on honoring any of their promises.. In fact the timing of the campaign was moreso to rub it in the Raiders faces even though they squated on that lease which in turn forced the Raiders out of town. The A's brand here in the East Bay represents more than just baseball but also our identity. When I go out of town I would proudly wear my A's hat but I will never support or buy anything that says Las Vegas A's. Honest to God this makes me not want to support MLB anymore at all and I LOVE this game! I was that kid watching the Bash Bros dominate the late 80's and early 90's and that's when I fell in love with this team and have fought with them ever since in good times and bad. There is still time to fix this somehow. MLB needs to do some soul searching and be ACCOUNTABLE. The brand and colors need to stay home and MLB and Rob Manfred needs to do Oakland right by granting us an expansion team with our brand intact. We won't give up until they right this wrong! Appreciate you guys!

I believe Fisher couldn't raise the capital for the $12B Howard Terminal Project and LV is his face saving move. He's struggling to come up with the A's $1B portion of the LV ballpark deal. Already talking about selling some of the equity in the team to try to pay for the LV ballpark.
@dorothygale1104
@dorothygale1104 11 ай бұрын
@@FFE155 Howard Terminal was a complete red herring that Fisher never intended to build. He created the most complicated project possible that would require the most possible approvals from various government agencies in order to create a narrative that Oakland was dragging their heals and wasn’t working in good faith with the A’s. Fisher effectively had Oakland o a wild goose chase just to waste their time chasing down all the approvals needed that were outside of the City of Oakland’s control. Howard Terminal was a big mixed-use project on the Bay waterfront in 55 acres of leased land owned by the Port (not the city). There isn’t a project type tgat would require more approvals in California than what Howard Terminal needed. Yet Oakland got it all dine fir the A’s as the city approved the Environmental Impact Report and successfully defended it in 2 lawsuits and an appeal brought by opponents of the project; worked on behalf of the A’s to negotiate an agreement with the Port to lease the Howard Terminal land. The City stepped in and got a key required approval from the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) by a 23-2 approval margin after the A’s attempt at getting this approval failed on the first attempt. The city and A’s were in the final stages of negotiating the development agreement between the two parties, which was the final agreement needed for the project to be approved. The City effectively bent in the A’s favor on virtually every issue in the agreement that the A’s negotiated. But every time the City agreed to an A’s request, the goal posts were moved. At tge time the A’s walked away, The City agreed to $450M to fund offsite infrastructure improvement, which was $100M more than the A’s original request. The City also agreed to reimburse the A’s for up to $500M in onsite infrastructure that would be funded by bonds supported by incrementa property taxes of the proposed development. But Fisher kept insisting on more public money. Looking back, Fisher never intended to do the Howard Terminal deal, as there was clearly a deal there for him to do. He ended up wasting time and effort creating a Wag The Dog scheme to give him a reason to exit Oakland and Manfred was his willing accomplice every step of the way. Just observe Manfred’s weak body language in the post-approval press conference and you can see that he is clearly embarrassed to spew the b.s. he was spewing. Manfred is no Commissioner of Baseball, as he is just a wimpy lackey; an errand boy.

This is the real problem with the Commissioner being a lackey/shill for the Baseball team owners- always has been. It's no wonder every now and then Congress threatens to remove their most-favored status when they piss everyone off over things. I'd like to see a mandate from the Govt saying they need to have an independent Commissioner who represents the players, fans and owners. I am not at all surprised by the whole thing, it's a business first and foremost; that's why getting a poor owner who reaps monetary benefit from a poor team showing has to change if the game is ever going to move forward. Capitalism rules our world folks, have no illusions. Political palms get greased and the whole mess rolls on decade after decade. Soon the 10% will own everything and everyone. Baseball is just a small sample of it. "Greed is GOOD" (well, for rich and powerful)- everyone else, STFU. Ranty rant over and out.

Unfortunately the MLB is not going to give Oakland an expansion team. Maybe Nor Cal can get an expansion, Maybe even the bay area, but certainly not anything within the jurisdiction of the City of Oakland. The city charged over a million per year in leasing fees and never maintained the property. The city said they would sell the stadium then reneged after the A's bought the county's half. The city dragged out HT and saddled it with a bunch of bureaucratic conditions and extra costs. The city continues to lie about it's funding, which it does not have all of it. The city continues to lie about there being deal despite it being unlawful for them to actually make a legal deal until the port signs off. The city's minions on the ports board refused to bring forward a vote on approving the stadium despite the MLB's deadline for a stadium deal. The city continues to be antagonistic to the A's and the MLB threatening pointless lawsuits and extracting additional money. This is the third team to leave Oakland, the city has massive issues and its not crime or poverty or anything else. It's the culture of the bureaucracy and low rent politicians who will never rise higher then city hall. Rather then using this moment to step back reflect on what they did wrong and being constructive going forward, I guarantee you the city will exploit this for cheap short term political gain and destroy any chance of luring an expansion team and they will waste taxpayer funds doing it.

Someone explain to me how this is going to work. Fisher is leaving the 10th largest market to go to the 40th largest market. MLB teams get 25% of their revenue from local TV deals, the highest percentage of the 4 major sports leagues, he's going to have to raise private money to finance the ballpark which means yearly debt service payments, he's going to have the smallest ballpark in the majors, he's so cash poor that baseball is waving the 300M relocation fee, the A's are the worst team in baseball and have one of the worst farm systems in baseball so they're going to stink for the foreseeable future but supposedly he's suddenly going to start spending big money on the payroll? I mean, I'm no expert on this stuff but a 2 year old can see this isn't going to be some big panacea for the A's. They should've stayed in Oakland and given Vegas an expansion team.

@@SonHNguyen-qz5dgthey actually did. They had federal money via grants, the EIR was done and approved, they had renderings of a stadium, all that John Fisher had to pay was $86 million. John Fisher, decided to be greedy and tried to get something for nothing. That stadium in Vegas is not gonna be ready until 2031 at this current place thanks to pending lawsuits to pull that Vegas public funding. Oakland could've been ready to put a shovel in the ground next year. You should really do your research before making claims like that.

@@KingTone510 Sources? Also only funding is offsite funding. Oakland: Dragged out HT and saddled it with a bunch of bureaucratic conditions and extra costs. John Fisher already plan to payed majority of the stadium and he already invested 100million into HT without any deal with the city yet the city keep penny pinching him into paying more and more. Vegas stadium will be ready in 2028 and school over stadium is going nowhere

That’s kinda unfair though because the Raiders left when Nevada gave them a nearly billion dollar handout for their stadium. The Warriors are not an Oakland team specifically. They are bay area team and they simply moved to a location they preferred in the bay area and privately funded their own arena.

Did san Francisco lose the 49ers? Their Levi’s Stadium is 32 miles from the SF city limit in Santa Clara. Yet nobody says SF lost the 49ers. The Warriors privately financed Chase Center is just on the other side if the 4.5 mile Bay Bridge from Oakland. Oakland didn’t lose the Warriors because the team never asked for a cent from either Oakland or San Francisco to help subsidize Chase Center. The Raiders also moved from LA to Oakland. Does anyone say LA lost the Raiders? Davis is the least wealthy NFL owner and it was a known fact that he was going to move the Raiders to the city that would put the most money in his pocket and it was a given that it wasn’t going to be a. California city, as financing stadiums with public money is rare in California. More stadiums & arenas in California are privately financed vs. stadiums that have any amount of public money involved.

People getting mad for them leaving the s hole called Oakland that city is dangerous stadium is blighted. Anyone ever go there on vacation? They do in Vegas. Then he says that none of the money will go back to the Vegas community. So parking sales, rental cars, hotels, tickets and the jobs they produce won’t make the state any $? Then he says he’s talked to other owners who say it won’t work in Oakland. They say it won’t work in Vegas when no one knows if it will or won’t. I’m a die hard A’s fan and I want to thank John Fisher and the whole A’s organization for having the guts to take the steps to do what’s best for our team. Whether or not he increases our payroll and keeps are players is irrelevant he owns the team and he can do whatever he wants. Everyone is calling him the worse owner, you all forgot about Marge Schott? Frank McCourt? Schott was a racist, McCourt almost had to get a loan to meet payroll because he spent all the teams $. Billy Bene and David Frost have gone to the playoffs 11 times since 2000. Not a math major but that’s close to half. Also impressive with the facts it’s done through trades and player development. Learn your baseball before you pass judgement

The issue is, stadium deals aren't about stadiums, they're real estate deals. All about the land development around the stadium. That's where the money is.
@dorothygale1104
@dorothygale1104 11 ай бұрын
There is no land development opportunity for the A’s surrounding the proposed Vegas stadium. That is what makes no sense as Oakland was giving Fisher everything he and sny owner coukd want at Howard Terminal. The reality is that Fisher doesn’t have the financial juice to get the financing to make the $12B Howard Terminal project a reality. Moving to Vegas for a stadium-only deal is a face saving move hiding the fact he couldn’t land the HT financing. Fisher still doesn’t have a commitment from a lender for the $1.1B financing he needs to build the Vegas stadium. He & Kaval are now taking about selling a stake in the team to raise part of the $1.1B he needs for Vegas deal., which is a slap in Oakland’s face as he wouldn’t sell the team to someone who would keep the team in Oakland, but he will sell a stake in the team to raise money to build the Vegas stadium. Scum.
