Luka was much more celebrity and box office than he was a true stalwart player who can win championships. Luka's defense stunk. He was lazy getting back and even trying to earnestly play defense, his repeated poor conditioning and indifference about it because he was so reliant on his star power status to cover him for his nonchalance. Luka was not a team player and didn't like being overshadowed by Porzingis which is why the Mavs got rid of Porzingis and he yet he soon went on to win a Title in Boston. And Luka routinely whines like a spoiled brat when refs blow the whistle on him. Luka brought way too much baggage with him and he was way too costly in many ways not to mention he wanted to be paid a jillion bucks to keep being a prima donna. Smart move by the Mavs to trade him. What will A.D. do for the Mavs? Not sure but he can't be any worse than Luka was in Dallas!

I mean when it comes down to it the NBA is a business and business decisions are made in the long run Dallas saw Luka as a financial liability and also the organization is privately owned now do i think they should've told Luka what they were going to do yes but in the "real world" you dont get a few hour notice youre getting laid off, Dallas won this trade financially in the long term but success wise no. L.A. on the other hand won this in the long run as far as there image brand is concerned Rob and Jenny must've actually used their brains and realized you can't keep trying to build around a 40 year old who's basically stat padding and on his way out of the door in a year or two, Luka is now the face and future of the Lakers their going to be building around and focusing on him from now on and even with his flaws Luka is box office and what better place for a box office type of player to play for other than the Lakers , he wasn't brought there to help LeBron he's there to replace him.

The owners made a decision. Competition vrs cash. cash always wins. This isnt even competition. Its entertainment. LA=NBA. LA will ALWAYS have a star or 4 on its team. The league will make sure. This time it was to the detriment of the Mavericks. If you watch sports of any kind, be aware. Sports are for entertainment purposes only. They only want your cash. alleigence is a secondary concern. This trade was league politics driven. there is no other rational answer.
