This was some of the scrappiest football imaginable, hardly a clean possesion in 5 mins of football, that being the result of such a hard, physical game. Players were exhausted and it was all just determination, willing the ball forward, tackling, body pressure, instinct. If you watch the whole quarter, Davis was even more remarkable because he kicked 4 in that final term. An interesting side note is that the great piece of commentary when David kicked the sealer was by Anthony Hudson, a life long Geelong supporter. Even as a Swans man I always feel bad for him having to commentate the moment of capitualation for his beloved side, yet his words are now famous. Do yourself a favour and research Adam Goodes, our star number 37. A great man and champion player, taunted out of the sport by racists, idiots and the morons who choose to get offended and defensive by a black man not just going along with the long held staus quo in Australia, but actually standing up against racism, predjudice and bullying.

That commentator right at the end when Nick Davis kicked the winning goal, ''I see it but I don't believe it'', is a guy called Anthony Hudson. The irony there is, he is a mad Geelong supporter. So credit to him for sounding excited even though he just saw his team eliminated from the finals.

Nick Davis actually kicked the last 4 goals in that match which is amazing considering that Sydney only managed 3 goals in the first 60 minutes of play and he kicked 4 in the last 15 minutes. It's considered as one of the greatest individual performances in a final.

I remember as a kid I ditched a friend's party to stay home and watch this game with my grandma. At three quarter time I thought we we were gone for all money. Then that miracle occurred. I went to the Preliminary Final against the Saints then next week, sitting in the second back row of the top level with a group of drunk English backpackers and almost got stampeded by the crowd on the concourse before the match. But in all my time following football, I've never seen a better Swans win than that semi final.

..And they started the year 1-4 and Demetriou (AFL boss) stated Sydney will never win a premiership with that style of footy.. I bring that up every year when they count a team out after a few rounds. I'm not a swans fan but this is my favourite footy storyline (Saints fan btw)

2005 was such a great season and this game summed it all up for us. Interesting that both this and the grand final came down to the brilliant efforts of two players in the dying seconds.. I was at this match. At the end you'll see the camera shaking after the goals, that was the grandstand shaking. I was on ground level, on the concourse (terraces) on the near side wing near the Sydney bench, I have never felt a stadium shake like that before! I still get goosebumps! 100,000 at the G doesn't even do it!

Bearing in mind that this game led the Swans through a Prelim and into the Grand Final, where they broke a 72 year Premiership drought in similar fashion - although with a last second defensive act rather than a goal kicked. 16 years later, and "I SEE IT, BUT I DON'T BELIEVE IT!" is still enough to bring on goosebumps. One of the all time great games in our club's long, long history. If you like close finishes, I could also recommend Round 14, 2017 - Sydney vs Essendon. The last 5 minutes of that game were crazy.

@@athlonen Very true. I tend to see the 2017 game as a distillation of that whole season though - to be 0-6 and then storm into the top 8 and screw anyone who says we can't do it - or to be more than 2 goals down with 2:30 on the clock and win anyway. That and '96 is still a bit depressing overall...

Husband is a mad Sydney Swan’s supporter. They were South Melbourne before we started sending teams from Victoria to other States. It was the VFL before it became the AFL. It was started to keep Cricket players fit off season. My husband has followed them since they were South Melbourne. We registered this code of football 10 years before America started playing their code of football. They don’t really kick a ball until after they score. It is one of the oldest codes of football anywhere.

I was at that game, it was incredible! & btw, in the stadium, the clock is turned off for that last 5 minutes, so we had no idea how much time was left & even after we took the lead, given how the match had been, we still thought there was every chance Geelong was going to do the same back to us & score a goal out of no-where. We had no idea there was only 3 seconds on the clock, I mean it seemed like there had to be very little time left, but it had seemed like that for ages before that goal too, so certainly wasn't any confidence we had it, emotions were still everywhere until that siren went!

What you may not realise is that those 3 seconds at the end were the only time Sydney was in front all match. Nick Davis who had done bugger-all all night, was given a dressing down at 3/4 time and kicked 4 goals himself in the last Q. Also, the scoreboard at grounds doesn't show the time remaining. Like soccer, it shows the time elapsed, so you never know when the siren will go. Network 10 who was the broadcaster did the same thing (blue graphics), that black clock you were watching was superimposed later for the youtube upload.

The game you need to play is .. the FIRST game of the: 2010 AFL Grand Final was a series of two (2) Australian rules football matches between the Collingwood Football Club and the St Kilda Football Club. Together they are considered the 114th annual grand final of the Australian Football League (formerly the Victorian Football League), and were staged to determine the premiers for the 2010 AFL season. The premiership is usually decided by a single match; however, as the first grand final ended in a draw, a grand final replay was played the following week and was won by Collingwood.

Have you clicked onto the fact that a 'semi-final' is actually a quarter final? It's due to the history of the game in which once upon a time, if you lost the final and you ended up on top of the ladder, you could challenge again for "The Grand Final"! After that, "the final" became known as 'the preliminary final' if it went to a "Grand Final". The names stuck even with a change to the finals system.

Well after re-reading my comment, I'm wondering if some of your confusion is due to how I explained it? I probably should have said it in the following sequence: if you ended up on top of the ladder, then got through to the final but subsequently lost "The Final", you could challenge the winner to a "Grand Final" and then "The Final" was subsequently known as "The Preliminary Final"!

At the Stadiums they don’t show a countdown clock so you’re not sure when the siren will sound to end the game, makes it even more nerve wrecking. Channel 10 for a short period around 2005 decided to take the countdown clock off screens for the last 5 minutes (5 minute warning) of each quarter to give tv viewers that unknown feeling of when the game will end. The countdown clock in this video was put on by the person who made this KZbin video, the commentators, fans and tv viewers didn’t know there was only 3 seconds left when he kicked that goal.

At this point of the match, Nick Davis had already kicked two last quarter goals to get us close after being behind all night. At three quarter time, I thought we had no chance.....the rest is history. Nick Davis came to save us! The crowd after his final goal......brilliant!

I'm not a huge footy fan (yeah I know - bring on the haters) but loving all your other 'aussie' videos - you've got a place to stay in Sydney if you ever get over here .......

You should watch highlights from the 2005 and 2006 grand finals. Both years were Sydney vs west coast eagles. Both nail biters abs both iconic grand finals.

I remember where I was for all of these finals and was at the prelim when we smashed the Saints. I was sitting behind Swannies goals in the last quarter and was dancing on my chair singing cheer, cheer the red and the white. Go Bloods!

I remember watching this game live at home on TV broadcast, I don’t follow either of these teams but even I was on the edge of my seat. It was a special QTR to watch, swans were down an out coming into the final QTR. But the 4 goal Masterclass of Davis was something special.

You should watch this video of the last minutes of the grand final v West Coast Eagles a week later. Both these games are the most nerve wracking finals games I’ve seen. I was so proud to be a Swans supporter that year. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYG3oXp9l693qpI

Hey mate you should totally react to 2018 round 8 the showdown 2 minutes left. I was at this game and omg was the loudest crowd I have ever heard before. It was frankly unbelievable how loud it was Cheers

The good old days with the 5 minute warning. Especially when it was a close game and you didn't know how long was left. Just made it so much more intense. Hope to see it back.. Also another good video to react to is the 2005 grand final.

I must say the last quarter of the 2019 prelim between Collingwood and GWS was amazing! For Collingwood to be down 33 points with 14 minutes to go and be able to bring it back to 4 points. If they'd have won that game it might just be one of the best games in recent history!

Collingwood lost. Those 2 words make it one of the best games in all history, never mind restricting it to "recent". The fact that it was an elimination final is where icing meets cake 😉 /kidding

See the expression on the face of the Cats player still on the ground as Davis signals his goal. Even he sees it & doesn't believe it...
