In this video, I'll provide an update on my Avocado Saplings that I've grown from seed that are now just about 21 months old as I started them on 1/13/20. A lot has happened since the last update - overwintering them indoors, bringing them outside in spring, and then repotting them once again a few months ago. I have 6 plants growing in this series - 2 from the toothpick and water method, and 4 started from the direct sowing into soil method. I'll keep you updated on their progress until they perish or produce (fingers crossed). Tips for growing avocado trees: Avocado trees really don't prefer full sun all day and especially not 100 degree temperatures so It's been tough planning where he should stay during the days - preferably a partial sun/shady area. Avocado trees do enjoy slightly acidic soil that is well draining. A PH of 6.0 - 6.5 is ideal and having sandy soil conditions also helps. They also are heavy nitrogen feeders so a monthly feeding should be used after they reach a few feet tall. Your soil should consist of a mixture of Limestone, crushed granite and sandy loam. Make sure it is well-draining to prevent root rot. I hope you will enjoy this new video and the series. I have 3 avocado seeds That have sprouted The 1st 1s about 2 months old. The second is 1 and a half months, but it already has 4 leaves and two little ones And the 3rd one is 3 weeks maybe, but its developing very slow, the root isn't even an inch long and no crack on the. But the second one is legendary, because it actually splitted in half, but immediately started growing, this was about a month ago, and already 6 leaves? That's impressive and in moderate climate.

Also, I wonder if this is why one of my mangoes has brown leaves like that… if it’s because it’s gotten burnt from too much sun. Looks similar to your avocados. It’s like every baby leaf that tries to come out gets brown. I’ll try to move it to indirect sun. Is that pipe looking thing you have in with the avocados there to help them stand upright?

I actually have the same prob, My mango leafs keeps getting brown and fall off and now i dont think it Will grow anymore

It serves 2 purposes. An aid in standing it up and a way to water the bottom as needed.
@RobBackyardGardenerr3 жыл бұрын
It could be due to either not enough water or a salt accumulation in the soil... maybe try flushing out the soil and possibly adding a bit of nitrogen fertilizer.
@Danifoxx83 жыл бұрын
@@RobBackyardGardenerr flushing out the soil? I try to bottom water them instead of watering them from the top… I’ll try the fertilizer and see if it helps. It just looks super sad and the new leaves that try to come out don’t seem to make it. Thank you!

Hi Rob, I planted 3 Avocado seeds in a 10 Gallon planter last spring hoping at least one would sprout. Well, to my surprise all 3 sprouted. They are each about 6 Inches tall now. Should I let them grow to see which one does best or take my best guess and pull out 2 of them? Been trying to grow one for a few years now and this is the first year they have made it this long. Thanks!

I have a question. My avocado seed ended up growing 2 stems. 1 is significantly bigger than the other. They seem to alternate growing. The taller will grow several inches and sets of leaves. Then the smaller will. Should I just cut the smaller one off so the taller tree can focus growing or let them both grow? Or can they be separated?
@diavalus3 жыл бұрын
Leave both of them, it will grow like a bush and that’s what you usually want

That's odd, I keep mine in full sun, I do know they don't like a lot of water, they would rather be pretty dry. I still have mine in regular garden soil with fertilize. I have one still in the water and it's pretty big.
@thesilentone40243 жыл бұрын
I would do a test on that soo. Do 1 with all 25% of you're mix. Do the second one with that 50 25 25 mix. I got one for you don't use play sand use desert sand why play sand is way smaller and can technically become cement for your plants roots and will stunt them. Ps im in college for this and have seen many play sand mistakes do to lack of research and to many popular gardeners not knowing what it does telling lots of people its ok to use when its really not.

I’ve got some… but I heard avocados don’t grow true to the seed. I feel like I’m wasting my time but oh well…
@RobBackyardGardenerr3 жыл бұрын
They don't BUT you could have a very edible variety as well. Worst case you could graft a branch from a know variety and use the base as root stock - yielding a crop in as little as a few years.
@aarohanpokharel7602 жыл бұрын
They won't fruit in that pot . Just wasting their life dude. They are barely alive in those .
