I have traveled to more than 30 countries. Rule #1 never ever wear a bag in the backside, Always wear it on your chest. Applies to most countries.

Unfortunately there are always people that travel with large events to steal from those having a good time; whether it is the Super Bowl, Kentucky Derby, World Cup, New Year Celebrations or SongKran, people that can't or won't make a honest living with let their base mind take over... Glad you were able to minimize the lost and secure your credit... There is always true Weasels around...

Good thing he had you, a good friend to help his through his inconvenience… luckily no one was hurt and no money was taken and he can replace his cards which might be a hassle from across the world… but I guess he gotta charge it to the game. When it’s that many ppl outside in one place that’s an easy time to prey on the weak because people everyone is distracted…good luck to you guys and be safe

Look into getting a pacsafe backpack. It’s a little more expensive but it’s worth it. It’s antitheft backpack. It has fiber mesh where it can’t be cut with a regular knife backpack and also the zippers lock down inside. I bought one about 6 years ago, it’s a great when traveling to different countries.

I've had a Pacsafe day bag since 2010, traveled the world with it and it's still in perfect condition. Cut-resistant shell, stainless steel wire mesh body, ss wires in the strap, locking zippers. Well worth the money.

If that was in Brazil, you couldn’t go out like that where there is a large crowd, you’d most likely get robbed. I always tell visitors to use a money belt big enough for your phone and keys, and to tuck that into your shorts or pants.

It happens to me also in Bangkok near Nana BTS station 7-Eleven, 3 ladyboy attack me and snatch my gold chain worth 1700usd. my bad luck never noticed until morning. Happened 14 April 2024 night was so happy with songkaran and next day unhappy with Thailand anymore....

So sorry to hear this. I love Thailand and always feel safe and wouldn't think this would happen but there is always that 1 that ruins it for everyone and takes advantage of what is supposed to be such a celebratory time. Glad it was just stuff that could be replaced even the few hours/days of that shitty feelings and worry you had to deal with.

I was there 19th April 2024, and have been going since 1998, heard stories about Gold chains being stolen and people cutting the strings on those waterproof bags. I don't take anything except an old phone for photos and a few thousand baht. I think I saw you on Soi 7. Maybe see you again next year!

Have credit card, emergency $ and ID into 3 different packs that are stashed somewhere separate when you travel. If one pack stolen, you have two others retrievable.

I grew up in New Orleans and going to the Mardi Gras, festivals, sporting events with crowds packed like sardines. Try to always be mindful of where you are going. The important stuff should always be put where its going to be difficult to take. Some people only travel to events to commit crimes. No telling how long someone(s) were following you guys.

Where ever you are in the world having fun there's always a rogue player trying to steal stuff. You and Aaron reacted well and sorted it out with minimum fuss. Heck it happened to me in Rio who would have thought. Just got to learn and move on 99% of people are good.
