Saw The Band as a 16 year old in Pasadena, CA. in 1969. Had followed them since the year before, totally blown away by "Music From Big Pink. Was a big fan all the way through "The Last Waltz." Loved all of those guys, following them through the years... My being part Apache, Robbie's "Music For Native Americans" has been the soundtrack of my life since retiring to Arizona and painting Native American heroes. Thank you, Robbie, so much for the music and may your spirit fly on the winds of your people! RIP, sir...

What an icon. You can tell you're listening to great music, when it's not flashy, it's deeper and soulful. I remember years ago listening to Take Your Partner By The Hand over and over again. Even though it was contemporary at the time, it was soulful. That was Robbie Robertson. RIP
@hannejeppesen1809
@hannejeppesen1809 5 ай бұрын
I think Robbie's soulful writing comes from his background. His mother was Mohawk, his father Jewish, who died before Robbie was born. His mother took him to the Six Nations reserver several times a year, there he listened to the elders telling stories and playing music. Robbie stepdad became very physically abusive to Robbie when Robbie was a teenager, and to his mother as well. She divorced him when it got to be too much. She was very supportive of Robbie and his dreams, his stepfather was not.

Read his book "Testimony", Robbie by his own admission did plenty of drugs. However, he stayed away from heroin, unlike Richard, Rick and Levon. He was also more ambitious than the other Band members, with Robbie the music always came first.There is plenty of hate on the internet of Robbie, mostly over songwriting credits, and also his ego. First of all I'm a HUGE fan of The Band, and especially Robbie, although Rick is a close second. Most of the hate comes from fans of Levon, who read his book, where he turned very critical and bitter towards Robbie. I side with Robbie after reading several and listening to several sources. I do believe Robbie has more fans than detractors.

Robbie is in many ways a symbol of reconciliation. I think the experience with an abusive stepfather, especially when he had been drinking made Robbie weary of all the drugs and alcohol consumed by Levon, Richard and Rick. Not that Robbie didn't do drugs he did, he is very open about it in his book, music always came first with Robbie. I love all The Band members, perhaps Rick the most. Fact is Robbie held things together and became the caretaker when the other 3 was too stoned to do much. As for his stepfather being abusive to Robbie's mother and Robbie, in his book he also tells the story how his stepfather beat Robbie's dog over some minor thing, Robbie never forgave him for that.

I am deeply saddened. I loved Robbie's work with The Band. When a musician dies, a part of every musician dies a little. We're all connected through the music.

💯💯💯💯💯 Music is the universal language. No matter where a person is from, Poland, Canada, Ireland, Germany, America, music connects us. Praise GOD that it does. 🙏❤️❤️🙏

First Lightfoot now Robertson. Canada has lost 2 musical luminaries in close chronological proximity. I adore Robbie Robertson! Have for many decades. Rest in power, dear man.
