Today i was in a store and one of the staff was talking to me about... cooking and gardening. She said... she loves to grow vegetables... but doesnt have enough room on her condo patio...plus what soil she has... in the ground is not good. I pulled out my phone pics and showed her all my totes that you inspired and taught me how to set up. She was shocked that i had that in such a small patio and that had SOOO much growing. You really can make up for small square footage... by tiering up on chairs... and for me... 2x4's on stacked cinderblocks. I enjoy sharing the wealth of knowledge i have learned from you and Gary. Thank You for bringing more and more!

Robbie, you are brilliant! I have no choice but to do totes on chairs or a table. We have horrid gophers that don’t let us plant anything unless the plant’s roots are wrapped in chicken-wire baskets. (What a pain!!!). All of the destructive insects of Central California must have moved here and into our crumby clay soil. 😂 I’m hooked on your ideas. Composting in place - brilliant! Compost tea, layering, starting seeds, creating soil, bird water features, tulle - brilliant! You have given me so much hope. You teach very effectively. Thank you for all the ideas and encouragement. I love your gardens! ♥️ Evy

Use the tulle (the netting fabric used for wedding dresses) technique Robbie uses as she has deer too. She gets garden stakes and puts them at corners and in between and drapes the tulle fabric around and can go over the top if need be. Lots of critters don’t like the tulle including the deer. Sun and water can get through. $10 a bolt goes far and lasts at least one to a few years depending where you are. A very cheap solution that doesn’t hurt any creature either. It worked for my peach tree. I always lost my peaches to the squirrels but last year I wrapped the trunk and covered the top with tulle (small tree only 3 years old at the time) and finally got my harvest. Keep watching she’s got great ideas and affordable too.

As I have a yard that's wildly uneven and shaded by my neighbor's trees, I've cut back my veggie gardening over the last several years - even tubs weren't working. But this year I tried some packs of mixed seeds for pollinators in pots on my deck railing and they did fantastic! I had bees, hummers, butterflies and all sorts of pollinating insects. I am so excited to have more of these types of pots - eliminating the veggies was sad, but providing many insects with food and habitat is just the best! I may try some herbs mixed in, and who knows, a tomato plant or two may be planted in there eventually. There are many ways to garden and bring beauty and joy into the experience. Thanks, Robbie & Gary.

Now to rethink this, how to put wire over to keep them out...

Totes are the way I garden and I love gardening that way. Hardly any weeding, can control the water, and can keep them safe from the voles/moles. This is just so fun and efficient- with time, resources, space.

Hi Robbie, I'm from New Zealand and love watching you videos. One thing you might try, I bought some carrots from the supermarket last year, pushed them in my soil whole, to let them regrow, becuase I had heard that carrot tops are good to eat... I didn't like them but left the carrots thinking they would die and the old carrots would feed the garden worms... they didn't die in fact they grew so well they started flowering, the small birds and insects when crazy over the flowers, they just loved them, they eventually went to seed, and once they dried out I picked the seed Heads crumble them up and got about 2 1/2 million seeds. I started growing the seeds but the chickens that I have scratch them up but there's still quite a few around I'm a quarter acre Food Forest but they will take 2 years to go to see generally so I'm going to buy another 20 or so carrots and do the same thing this year the very very biggest carrots that I planted I got about 40 seed heads off each plant which I feel was worthwhile even if the seeds didn't grow since the insects in birds had such a lovely time with the flowers and the flowers were so pretty to look at

Ha...Gary was Hungary, He picked a muster leave and ate it without washing it. I started tote gardening in spring time, one thing i learned...i grow from seeds, i put 6 pepper seedings inside one tote...later found out, 1 or 2, are good enough...😁

Oh wow! You are right, I have one pepper plant growing in my rainbow garden in an 18 gallon tote, a black cobra HOT pepper, and that single plant is FULL of peppers. Gary does go around eating from my garden and his garden all the time. THANKS!
