IF YOU CHASE threads, always rotate in reverse whilst pressing down gently on the tap. Once you feel/hear the click of the thread on the tap falling off the ramp of the thread on the part, then you can start going correctly with full confidence. Also, the rotation back should be the length of the spline inside the tap. That's because what you're doing is breaking the chip with the back of the cutters, letting the chips fall down through the splines. Every 5 forward rotations, in hardier metals, you should remove the tap completely and puff the chips out with some compressed air. Soft metals can deal with it, the harder the metal, the more chip evacuation you want because you'll be recutting those chips otherwise and make a huge mess of things.

Same with plastics. When a screw threads into plastic. That way your not cutting new threads everytime eventually cutting away all the plastic.

You should also be using a thread chasing tap, not a cutting tap.

Rob, you should take measurements (or a picture) of those custom or expensive gaskets. Then sketch it in a 3D modeling program. I use solidworks. Then you can have them laser cut from dead soft copper or from regular copper then you can anneal yourself. That's how I make mine.

Rob, I've heard a story that someone's turbo has been damaged because he used exhaust cement on the manifold. Under load a chunk fell off and hit the turbine wheel causing an imbalance. Sometimes I use just a smear of anti seize on the gaskets and nothing more.

Be careful with the hoses that aren't approved for E85, I had some hose in a classic car that was less than 1 year old used with E10, that disintegrated and poured fuel over my engine, and perhaps it wouldn't do injectors any good either if it came apart on the inside...

How come you dont plumb to the primary rail first, then run your jumper to the secondary, then back to regulator?
@halofreak19904 жыл бұрын
That's because, despite being called the primary rail, it's actually second in line when it comes to injecting fuel at higher RPMs. IIRC the primary rail's main use is below 3000 RPM, with the second rail providing the bulk of the fuel once you get into the power band. Hence the 'reversed' order. You generally also see larger injectors on the second rail for this reason.

Different gaskets doing different things - see the additional hole, Rob? States there is a sealing issue between the manifild flange and the turbo' flange - doesn't make sure they're both flat, doesn't use a fresh gasket that isn't already compressed and so able to conform, does use gobs of sealer... Hmmm, going to be interesting to see how that works out... Anyway, that aside, made some good progress there, shouldn't be too long now! 😎
