@markhutchinson33675 жыл бұрын
As a person that worked at a turbocharger manufacturer for 8 years, that turbine housing you put on with the larger gap will definitely have a large affect on spool. For the highest efficiency, you want the face clearance of the turbine wheel to contour of the turbine housing to be around .020" to .030" total gap. You can measure with pin gages or feeler gauges to see the gap between the blade of the turbine wheel to the housing, it should be around .010" to .015" (which is the previously mentioned .020" to .030" total clearance, divided by 2 since you're only checking one side of the housing). I can see just by eyeballing it from your video that your size is far out of the range of tolerance. You're probably looking at .050" per side gap (.100" total) if not more, which will make that turbo spool at least 1000 rpm later or more and also affect peak hp/tq. It seems that the new housing you bought is the wrong trim size for the turbine wheel you have.
@RobDahm5 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the feedback. First thing I noticed. But I don’t have experience like that. I’ll message ATP about it.
@markhutchinson33675 жыл бұрын
@@RobDahm No worries! It is a risk when you mix different manufacturer housings, seen it many times over the years. Each manufacturer has their own tolerances, Garrett is toward the tighter side, tighter the better (that's what he said) as the efficiency is at it's greatest. Your situation looks more like perhaps ATP shipped you the wrong trim size for the turbine wheel size though. Hopefully they can get it sorted for you. You may have to ship the turbo to them so they can properly match the housing trim size and may need to do some machining to get it just right. Looking forward to seeing the car done!

Hey Rob, have u thought about grinding the side of the leaf spring up front, along the side of it. U can keep the same thickness of spring, but make it have less force against the control arm without making it weak. Could be a easy option to make it the correct ride height, also quick and cheap for stock springs u can modify for whatever engine your using. I love your channel and watching you show us real time builds. You have been the main influence on me starting my hot rod and trying to film it for KZbin. I know how much air the rotary pushes out, so you can spool a 1.06 AR housing turbo much quicker than I can with my piston engine, but that should be an awesome turbo for the 13B and make some crazy numbers. I have to say that I have NEVER seen this attempted, or even thought about, so I am pumped to see what the outcome is and how well this combo responds in this chassis.
