Just got my Discovery in the other day and while I haven't taken it outside yet I'm in love with how it looks. I've crawled a few things inside and it drives great for its size as well. The stock tires also feel fantastic compared to many other minis. Can't wait for the heavier wheels from Batrazzi to arrive!

Got an FCX24M Range Rover the other day, my mums ordered a Unimog and after seeing this I'm worried the Range Rover won't keep up offroad hah. Also got some MN82's for some siblings, really surprised by how good they were for the price, got them at $30 with some coupons

The Unimog is quite a bit bigger than the FCX24M Range Rover. The Range Rover is the most capable out of the FCX24M's though. 👍

I love my mn82, I just wanted a cool looking scale truck to drive around and it does that perfectly, and i probably just have low expectations but for the price I find the shocks and the tires to to plently good enough.

Thanks very much 👍 Depends on your budget really. There's not many cheap tenth scale RC's tbh that are decent. You're looking at starting around $260 for a decent tenth scale I'd say, which would be some of the RGT offerings, but if you can, It'd worth spending more for a better rig, like an Axial Base Camp, TRX4 Sport etc. 👍

@@DoURC Thank you. I used to build a lot of Kyosho and Tamiya off-road rc. I want something new but have come to a point in life where I think I want something RTR. All my rc vehicles are old and are now shelf queens. Marui Big Bear, Tamiya Blackfoot, Wild Dagger, Hornet, Fox, Falcon, Kyosho USA-1, and Corvette High Roller, Big Brute, Big Boss and Double-Dare, and some RC10. I have more, forty something years ago I was building rc cars all the time.

Great comparison on the small scale rigs. I have a MN82 and a FCX24 Blazer and the Blazer is definitely in another class. Especially after I added brass wheels and suspension links. Love the Unimog though and would love to add one to my collection. All the best for 2025. 👍👍🕹️

Yeah, it's a completely different crawling experience isn't it. 👍 Thats the main downside to starting with cheap rigs like WPL and MN imo, you don't get the 'proper' crawling experience so it could put a new person off the hobby.

@ Very true. I bought the MN82 mainly to weather the body because it is cheap and I did not want to do my first weathering on an expensive rc. The weathering came out great, but the driving experience is just not the same as with something like the FCX24.

It would really depend how you're running them tbh. For example the Blazer will have more ground clearance, but the Range Rover is less top heavy.

You missed the ax-8560/cc8801, I honestly think it's better than any of these for the price... it's literally half the price of the fcx24(which I also love) I just made a video about the ax/cc and the cheap upgrades.

This video was only featuring rigs I own or have reviewed so I can give my honest opinion. 👍 The Austar TRX4M clone looks OK and is cheap, but I'd say it would be in-between the MN168 and FCX24M. Yes it's cheap, but no proper 2 speed and the slow speed control isn't very good. I'd say a UDI UCX24 is better than the AX tbh. 👍 At these prices, the FCX24 is much better value for money than the Austar imo. 👍

@@DoURC for sure!👍 prices must be different here in California. I agree that the portal axles and proper 2 speed a huge plus, but a stock Austar/JJRC can make it up obstacles that my fcx24 Blazer struggles with, even after adding some brass and nice tires. And the cheapest I've ever seen one in the US is $120 (or $99 for the 24M). If you do manage to get your hands on an AX, I think you'd be pleasantly surprised. 😁

The FCX24M and FCX24 would be good on rocks, the FCX24 more so due to its size. The FCX24M Range Rover is actually really capable out the box. Check out my review of it, it bossed my rock course, really surprised me. 👍 I don't think the WPL or MN's are any good for rocks without loads of upgrades, better as a cheap trail rig imo. 👍

Imo no WPL can compare to a decent 'proper' crawler like an FCX24, it's a completely different crawling experience. Think of it like driving a Lada or a Ferrari...they both have wheels and can drive, but it's a very different experience! 🤣👍

@DoURC I put one of those fusion mini 16 in mine with portals and after going over the sketchy factory building mistakes I reckon this thing can hold its own, admittedly this thing is my 1st crawler I usually touring car but the precision of it was boring these a rough and ready funny little trucks

Interesting.... Im new to all this stuff.. I got the wpl 64~1 Hilux a few months ago. Painted it and added extra detail.. As Im a long term model maker. I now have 3 mn 82 Land cruisers in the brand new one with rear tray and canopy. I have 3d printed so many interior and exterior items for them. I have bought new motors.. 2 speed boxes and other improvements for them but not added any yet.. I never get time. Although not got better shocks for any as don't know what are good and what are not... The wheels and tyres are horrendous on that land rover... So I never bought one.

Yeah the wheels on the Rangey are rubbish aren't they, really spoils the look! Sounds like you've got a nice collection there. You can get some nice cheap upgrades on Aliexpress for the MN rigs. 👍 I've got the MN82S as well, looks cool but haven't reviewed it yet. Looks basically the same as the MN82, just with the overland gear. The nice thing about the cheap rigs is you can mess around with them, without breaking the bank and worrying about messing up a $500 rig. 👍

@@DoURC i have the MN82 S. the pro which came with rear lights fitted and the old original one. I gave the Hilux and LC a run around out of the box before adding driver and other 3d printed stuff. I get my stuff of Ali but its a case of knowing and learning about oil shocks etc. For a few quid i cant complain.

@MrEnglischjules Yeah they're cheap to upgrade. It's the shame the S and Pro don't have more useful upgrades. Mind you the oil filled shocks on the MN168 aren't great either.

It's annoying when you get stung for extra fees isn't it. That's what I like about Aliexpress, it tells you what the tax etc will be, so it's all covered. Most things still work out cheaper getting it from Aliexpress instead of in the UK. 👍

It is still annoying sometimes when your order gets cancelled, but doesn't happen often and Aliexpress are really good at refunding you straight away. Their 7 day free delivery is crazy! I generally find Aliexpress cheaper than Banggood and way cheaper than Ebay and Amazon etc. 👍

The Redcat ascent18 will out preform everyone of these crawlers and can be found on sale for 95 USD multiple times throughout the year.

That's not necessarily true though is it. Both the FCX24M and FCX24 have better slow speed control, plus the 2 speed and a nicer hardbody, if that's your thing. I'd argue the FCX24 is better value for money than an Ascent18. Cheapest I can find the Ascent18 atm is $119. 🤷‍♂️ The Ascent18 is a decent rig though and yes it does have a lower cg as its just a lexan body, so will be less top heavy. 👍

The FCX24M is a smaller 24th scale with 4 Camel Trophy body styles. The FCX24 is more like 1/18 scale with different body choices.

Oh wow, that's crazy expensive. Can you not order from FMS direct at the lower price? Or order from Aliexpress so it's imported? In the UK they are still about £140, which is about $160, but I can order an FCX24 from Aliexpress for $100 with free shipping and $20 tax, so still works out way cheaper than buying it direct in the UK. 7 day delivery too on Aliexpress from China. 👍
