Nasir Hussain was out caught behind twice. If umpire would have given that then things could have been different.

What a memorable moment for Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly in England in 1996.

@asisrout1988 I agree that he is well past his prime and must go now. But he was in a league completely his own in the 1999-2006 period. I'd say that he is the greatest Indian test batsman I've seen in action. All good things have to end one day. Just a shame when legends like Richards, Botham, Kapil, Waqar, Donald, Murali and now Dravid fail to time their retirements properly.

i still belv we wud hav won this test-series, but indian team those days lacked the killer-blow or didnt play aggressive at times and the same old thing our bowlers failing to get the oppn tail out cheaply, in the first test we had eng 8 wickets down, lead just a lil but their tail put up a big score, many times such things happ with ind through-out 90s in the overseas

Ipl has made such a great difference that indian bench strength is huge. 40-60 players can easily play international cricket. Before that india was a mediocre team.

In the 1990s at home in England in the northern Hemisphere summer. The much derided England Cricket Team of the 1990s was competitive and for most of the decade played well against most of the teams barring loses to Australia (Ashes Series in 1993 and 1997 who were the best team in the world in the 1990s) Pakistan (Test series in 1996 still had awesome fast and spin bowling unit) and Sri Lanka (one off test in 1998 Muralitharan and Sri Lankan top order bats inspired win Sri Lanka's first in England). Against the other nations India (1990 and 1996 they had a very strong team after Australia the strongest team in the 1990s but for some reason were not at their best in English conditions in the 1990s). West Indies (1991 and 1995 England team managed to hold off though in decline but still strong West Indies sides on both occasions), South Africa (1994 and 1998 On both occasions held off a strong South African sides of the 1990s who vying with India for being second best team after Australia in the 1990s). New Zealand ( competetive new zealanders were beaten in 1994 but finally managed to beat England in 1999 and England's bad decade was rounded off by being at the bottom of the test rankings). However as you can see at home in the northern hemisphere summer home series England's record was very creditable against some strong sides of that decade like West Indies, India and South Africa. However on their winter tours it was a disaster. England winter touring sides in the 1990s were quite pathetic. Their trips to pretty much all the cricketing nations except maybe Zimbabwe and New Zealand during the winter in the 1990s were disasters. They did not just lose. They played like they did not know how to play cricket in foreign conditions. Their tours to Australia where large English expatriate communities live must have been very dispiriting for English supporters. Their tours to India and Sri Lanka were also disastrous for English Cricket teams in the 1990s. The Brownwash tour of India of 1993 and the poor cricket they played in Sri Lanka on the same tour followed by poor tours to West Indies where Ambrose, Walsh and Lara made mince meat of the touring England cricket team. These performances overseas is what made the England Cricket Team of the 1990s much derided and the butt of most cricketing jokes. Even though their performances at home were on the whole quite creditable as shown in this review of 1996. India like today had a very strong team in the 1990s and should have trashed England. But England played well on their home turf.

@chadivadi True. Btw, did you go back and read my original comment. "India's greatest test batsman and greatest test liability." Who do you think they are? Dravid and Ganguly respectively. Of course, my frame of reference was only this era. Overall, Gavaskar and Vijay Merchant were possibly as good as anyone.

@chadivadi Lol! Knew that would come back to bite me in the arse someday. Tbf, Asis and I were talking a few months back when Dravid was having a very long poor run. Seems to have found his touch brilliantly now and I have no issues with a player staying as long as he's there on merit. Dravid, as on date, most certainly is.

Compare these pitches to the ones India got in 2018 2014 or even 2007(though the attack was poorer in 2007) These decks are roads.

@Imrankniazi Recently Dravid has undone lot of his good work in his "peak" years to be anointed as the greatest Indian batsmen.What Dravid can show to the Indian supporters in the last 4 years(except scoring against New Zealand and a ton on the featherbed at Ahmedabad)?He doesn't inspire confidence any more.Just eking out a career because of the impotence of Srikanth and co.I will have Laxman over him any day.I will be glad to be proven wrong in England tour(and Australia if he makes it) though.
@saurabhashu444 жыл бұрын
Just to remind you Dravid scored 3 centuries in his last test series in England where Laxman never achieved 3 figure score. Dravid has scored in all conditions and all types of pitches
